Yay for Wagner going again! And if Rochette is training for this, she might as well train for the Olympcis too. :p I thought they would prefer Abbott or even Aaron than Reynolds...

Pity that they never now invite Lambiel...

Reynolds has a huge following in Japan - he'll help sell tickets presumably.

Thanks to his victory at 4CC and a TV program in which he happened to appear, Reynolds became popular even among the casual figure skating fans there. People recognize him as a skater of excellent quads, good Japanese speaker, big fan of Japanese games, and another skater who has a strange Chinese character on his costume. :) He is so much loved by them.He skates at Mao's shows, The Ice tour, this summer, so he'll be more popular.

His fluent Japanese is just

As for the schedule, I'm afraid i'ts hard for the skaters like Ashley, Mao, Dai, and Taka to skate at JO, 'cause the interval between JO(and CoI) and SA is only two weeks. I wish their federations didn't send the skaters who skates at SA.

I didn't know he speaks Japanes either. Good for him!

I actually thought the fans would rather watch Abbott but guess not. :)

Abbott is my favorite skater, but I'm actually glad to see Kevin get the nod. His results this past season should not go unrewarded.

I heard he used to study Japanese by himself, however he's been taking private lessons once a week since WTT 2013.According to his interview:http://web.canon.jp/event/skating/interview/int_reynolds1.html He likes the feeling of the sounds of Japanese language. According to the blog of Kenji Miyamoto, a Japanese choreographer, Reynolds talked with him more than a half in Japanese. That's really surprising.

Sure.People love his butter skating, artistry, musicality, and his personality. Supposedly both of Abbot and Reynolds have certain market in Japan. The difference might be Reynolds is newly attracting the attention of casual skating fans, however Abbot is already more widely noticed IMO.

He must be very smart and comitted. I took Japanese lessons twice a week for 8 months and I can say the numbers and hello, my name is...I even forgot the hiragana (sp?) alphabet
Anyway, reynolds deserves it and he has the looks of a manga anime character as well, no wonder he's popular there

I'm impressed with Kevin's language skills, also.
In the video he looks about the same age as the young people he is speaking with!

Why isn't Hanyu even in the Carnival on Ice performers list?

Hanyu is going to compete in Finlandia Trophy, Oct. 4-6 IIRC, so he wouldn't be able to make it even if he wanted to. He has participated in COI before though.
As for Japan Open, it's a Kinoshita Group (Daisuke's sponsor) and IMG event (Kozuka belongs to IMG, as do most of the skaters competing in the event), so the likelihood of him being chosen over the two of them is slim.

TV Tokyo will make a special program of Carnival on Ice.
It will be made by the best selection in the past shows.

We really hope to watch the legendary performance 'Winter' by Alexei Yagudin. It happened in the only show which was not televised, and we're sure it was the best performance which got the thunderous applause from million people and full standing ovation in all arena:)

Has the Japanese federation announced their International competition assignments?
(thanks for the update on Yuzura at Finlandia. Must mean Javier could be there as well, so that Brian Orser can be keeping both of his star male pupil's under his watch during that critical time of the season)

Javier is coming to Japan Open. My guess is somebody else will come with Javier, since Finlandia is a real competition.

And given the Japanese' obsession with donut spins, Sot can really gather a huge following with her new flying camel:p

I just happened to see this promo preview of Carnival on Ice. Actually I was surprised at two points. One is like...Wow Kevin appeared in COI pp!! He's promoting one of the biggest Gala show in Japan at last!!:kickass: And the other is he's promoting COI in Japanese. He's saying "Kevin Reynolds desu. Carnival on Ice de tanoshimini shitekudasai" That means "I'm Kevin Reynolds. Have fun at Carnival on Ice." His Japanese is as fluent as usual.:respec: But there is a small mistake. "wo" might be more natural than "de" in this case, and the meaning of the full sencence changes to "Don't miss Carnival on Ice". But people can understand what he intended, so no problem.;) Love him.!:cheer:

It's announced on the official site that Kevin Reynolds withdrew from Japan Open for the reason of the inflammation of his knee. Jeremy Abbott replaced him. Wishing his fast and full recovery.
