Does it seem too trashy ? What's a classy drink for a woman but not too girly like a Martini?
Can't women drink whatever they want?
Errrr...I'm not trying to be rude (so you know something rude is coming ) but just to help with the context, a) how old are you and b) what kind of gathering are you talking about?
I know that my mother, who is in her early 60s, would not drink whisky or scotch at an event at my dad's country club or eveningish event. *I* on the other hand, being the unkultured 'Merikun I am, would drink any of those drinks at any event should I want to so long as others (male or female) were drinking. Well, OK, I don't like brandy, scotch, or whiskey (especially whiskey, blergh) but if I wanted to, I sure as hell would.
I'm sort of perplexed to by the notion that a martini is girly. An appletini or a Cosmo, sure. But I've always associated straight-up martinis with older men in darkly-wooded cigar rooms or steakhouses.
To be safe though if that really concerns you, I'd go with sherry.
As long as one doesn't get stupidly drunk, one should drink whatever one wants.
Well, probably not Pabst. Unless it's just that kind of party.
If everyone else is drinking scotch, brandy, or whiskey, soon they'll be too snookered to notice whether a woman is drinking an "appropriate" drink. Drink whatever the h*ll you want.
That's my thought exactly... except for the bit about Pabst. But then again, I am young and the people who drink PBR are the people I hang out with.
I'm sure people don't give a damn what you drink.
My great aunt belongs to a golf club and she eats her lunch or dinner there every day with a bunch of other people her age. Maybe it is generational, but all of her lady friends her age drink scotch or whiskey before they eat, and quite a bit of it.
Since when is a martini considered girly?
I think James Bond would object.
Just don't mix them all, or pour the leftovers into one glass
We have Johnny Walker Green Label and I love it on the odd occasion. Why the F not? Also, a good Rye (aka Whiskey) is also very nice. (I am not much of a Rye drinker though hubby is.
I would like to second the question-How is a martini girly? Unless you are talking about those fake martinis like an Apple Martini?
My husband always jokes with me because I LOVE Dirty Martini's and they make him gag, and he says I am more of a man than him because I can drink them LOL.
unless one is drinking oneself under the table, why should it make any difference?
If you think that someone would think it not ladylike and that impression is important to you, why not drink a glass of soda. Drink the scotch, brandy, whiskey et all at home.
My Little Pony, that is the most wonderful image. The Ladies Who Lunch, tossing back liquor and slamming golf balls. Go, girls! Beats the ##)(&* out of shopping, that's for sure. IMHO of course.
I'm kinda with this question.
I drink because it's liquid. If it was solid, I'd eat it.
If it's considered trashy, then myself and all the women I know (including my mom and grandma) are Then how über trashy tequila shots must be...
Seriously, I thinks as long as you don't make a complete ass of yourself because of the liquor, I can't think of a drink that would be unelegant.
Well, belly button tequila shots may be slightly trashy
A drink is not trashy. A drunk, however, is.
What kind of party is it?
You most certainly can drink whiskey or scotch. I've drank scotch for years.
A not too girly drink - whiskey sours?
Scotch, brandy or whiskey? Yes.
Everclear, Night Train, or Thunderbird? No.
A good scotch or brandy is a classy drink in that they are really expensive and as such, are luxuries enjoyed by people who can afford them. They are a prestige drink and very enjoyable. . IMO there an aged scotch is a wonderful and decadent drink.
I certainly hope the days when they were seen as an after-dinner drink for men in the study are long past.
The only non-classy thing about drinking good liquor is to gulp when everyone else is savouring.
What are you talking about? There's nothing classier than Everclear straight from the bottle. In fact, I'm not nearly classy enough to drink it.
Shows how classless you are. Truly, the people with real klass (that's class with a K), know that the only way to enjoy Everclear is in a lemon jello shot out of a paper ketchup cup.
I think it's all right to drink all the above-mentioned drink as long as one doesn't pour it over breakfast cereal?
My husband's boss and one of his cronies are Martini drinkers, so I don't think they are too girly.
LOL. I thought it had to be green jello.
Anyone who says a woman cannot enjoy scotch is a fool. I have a better collection of high-end scotch than any man I know.
What do you like? Foo Foo drinks are fine if that's what you like. A glass of wine or something with a bit more kick! Just don't over indulge. Oh, and there's nothing wrong with a good stiff whiskey every now and then!
I know, right? But the thread turned out to be so tame!
Yeah, what's up wiith that?
Speaking of... I am making jello shooters for a Stag & Doe this Friday. Gonna make Chocolate Liquer/Raspberry jello ones and Peach Absolut/ Orange jello. I would love to make something with the Pomegrante, Blueberry and Cherry liquers I have too...trying to think up some other funky flavour combos lol
Strawberry Hill Boones Farm or Madd Dog 20/20. Total Klass.
As to the original question...it's the drinkERS who become tacky and classless, not the drinks...
The only liquor that passes my lips is scotch. No ice and only the threat of still water.
Okay, that's not completely true. Malibu and pineapple juice is very refresshing in summer and Chardonnay is a standby with a meal.
Once upon a time, there were cocktails that were perceived as "ladies drinks"; presented as sweeter, with less alcohol, etc.
I learned about them when my father taught me to tend bar for myself.
Now, I think such ideas are passe'.
The only thing that matters is to drink whatever you choose, in moderation.
I prefer Scotch on the rocks. My drink of choice. The only feminine touch is that I wish I could get one of those cute little umbrellas with it.
My dad is a Scotch fanatic. Me, I am into the stereotypical fruity girly drinks.
And yes those who get wasted are the tacky ones, no matter what they drink.
Reminds me of the time when my roommate was showing me and a friend how to correctly savor cognac by rolling it over the tongue. My friend tried it, choked, spat half of the cognac over the table, and started coughing as my roommate and I laughed.
I think women should drink whatever they want as long as they don't drink too much.
When I was able to drink (before being diagnosed with a chronic liver disease), I liked beer, scotch on the rocks or champagne and avoided cocktails (too strong) and wine (gave me a headache)
Separate names with a comma.
