I really enjoyed watching this competition. Hope they do more like it, brought back some very fond memories of the wonderful pro comps held back in the 90's after the infamous whack on the knee got the public to take notice of figure skating, but in a good way!

How many years ago did Takeshi retire from competition, 9, 10? I don't think he has skated very often between then and now and yet he went for a triple axel. He should have won this.:kickass:

All the skaters were really enjoyable to watch. Even Candeloro in spite of his falls, funny guy.

    Kudos to everyone

Candeloro is surprisingly good except for the falls. He's actually skating.

But really only Jeff and Yagudin skated like young man.

    Yagudin is still hot

my fav woman still amazing too.. Irina just oozes the love of skating.. still reminds me of that rosy cheeked teenager when I first saw her skate..

I wish these skaters had a tour or something - all of my fav's at once and Joannie and Jeff to sweeten the pot :D

Irina was fantastic! Her solid deep edges are still there as well as spring in her jumps. It was great to see her go after that triple flip and the difficult entrance into the loop. And the lift in her double axel, WOW! Most of the ladies skating at nowadays wish they had such a double axel.

What a hottie! *havin' a serious man crush here* I think I need a cold shower now. Jeff is definitely the headliner from both these competitions (JO & MWO) for me! Amazing! :swoon::encore:

I have to agree, even though I'm not a fan and dislike 'Singing in the Rain'. The other guys look rusty, but Kurt is still on the top of his game. He must be over 40, so this is darn impressive.

He's 46. But even if he'd been younger, that was a fantastic performance; really fun and entertaining. I must say it was funny seeing Kurt in the K&C...

    Oh my god.

I totally remember why I love Ilia. What a magnificent beast. And still so flexible and in such great shape considering his competitive career ended 14 years ago and he's been busy opening his new school and everything.

Yags, wow, just wow, I mean IMO he looked in quite a bit of pain by the end and it's such a shame the jumps aren't there for him anymore, but that footwork! Oh my. No-one will ever top it.

I hope this is still going when Plushy finally retires. Can you imagine that? The three Russian Champions competing against each other again?

Kurt was just magical. He really is the master. Definitely reminded me why he's the reason I'm a skating fan.

My photos from Medal Winners Open:
    http://www.kurtfiles.com/pics/event.php?id=2012/Medal Winners Open&search=

Also, here's a version of Singin' in the Rain sans commentary:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBqqX3eVuRc

Kurt trained hard this summer to get ready for this competition, and to get Singin' in the Rain ready for a live audience (doing everything with the umbrella in hand can't be that easy). He's even skating it in the same costume as the original performance. He was so disappointed the debut wasn't perfect (that salchow). But in my admittedly biased opinion, I thought it was awesome...

Oh btw, Willowway, according to the program list I got, Ilia skated to Kashmir by two different artists - Bond, and Escala featuring Slash.

Joubert shoud work with Yagudin, they have many similarities but how Yagudin sells his program is supergreat. :D

Joubert doesn't have Yagudin's flexibility on the ice.

Yes, in 2003-4 or so, but IIRC Yagudin and Morozov didn't get along, so that was the end of it.

I don't get the sense that Joubert is trying to emulate Yagudin as much in recent years as he used to, and his Inception LP doesn't look particularly Yagudin-like to me. And whatever Joubert's weaknesses are, I don't think inability to sell a program is really among them.

I really hope that we will see more pro competitions following the MWO, it was wonderful seeing so many great skaters competing again. I finally got around to seeing Slutskaya and it's incredible how good she looked, especially considering she was the oldest lady entered and has given birth twice since retiring.

Yes they did work together but Joubert's coach at the time made Brian stop working with Yags. Why? I do not know. But they did work well together.
