I am very happy for them all - Jeff and Kurt did particularly well. And Ilia, as always, maintains his form and I don't see how he has done that while opening a new business and working all day every weekday with his students for their competitions. The fact that the guy finds time to eat amazes me...

I think it's fantastic that all these professional skaters took the time and gave this event such focus. It's always enlightening to see what maturity can do in terms of programs and equally astonishing what they can do technically so many years after leaving eligible training. Wonderful athletes, all of them!

I saw these scores and thought "WOW!! Those are some impressive SP scores! Did Jeffy go for a 3A?" Then I realized, nope, they're LPs (albeit rather abbreviated, by the looks of it) Still, sounds like some great skating by all!! Judges are certainly spread thin this weekend between this, Ondrej Nepala, and Finlandia.

Actually, they are neither - but they are actually closer to SP than to LP, because there's only 7 required elements in this competition while the LP (for senior men) has 13. :)

I believe the required time on the men's programs was 3:30 and the women's a little shorter. Regulation men's LP is 4:30 (+/- 10 sec) and regulations ladies 30 seconds shorter. So in duration terms they are not LPs either.

Don't forget the judges at the JGP event in Zagreb, Croatia! Definitely a time of heavy demand for judges and other officials!

Even if I can't see this, I'm thrilled there is an event that still encourages the pros to compete and lets fans see some of the "fan favorites" who are no longer eligible. :cheer: to the Japanese fans for supporting this event!

I believe this is it, as medals were given out already. It's too bad, I would've loved to see two performances from all of these skaters!

Thank you so much! It's so nice to get to see these pros skating again. Also, can't wait for the Japan Open to see Patrick Chan and Mao's new programs.

Thank you so much for the posting the photos! I'm getting nostalgic for the glory days of professional skating just reading through this thread. It sounds like it was a good event, and hopefully there will be more in the future.

If Jeffrey Buttle won, why are there no pictures of him during his skate? I've seen pics of others but not one of Jeffrey.

I saw in the links that Ilia skated to "Kashmir". As in Led Zeppelin!? Does anyone who was there know? Did it sound like classic rock to you? If so, cool... very cool...

Kudos to Takeshi for going for a 3A. :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: And thanks for reminding/explaining the illegal element, I totally forgot Candeloro does backflips.

Thanks for everyone's photo links and reports. :)

Joannie and Sarah's had some disadvantages of the programs by using show programs. I do not think squeezing required elements into the show programs was quite successful.

Ilia's program was not very CoP friendly with rather lots of runs. I loved it a lot though.

I think it was the version with no vocal, and sounds more modern. I think I had heard it very recently somewhere else but I cannot recall what it was.

Yes, it was definitely Kashmir. :) Not original Zeppelin version, it sounded similar to the ones Armin and the Zhangs used. But it was really cool nonetheless. :D

Thanks all - I wish it had been a cut from the original Kashmir but a cover will do nicely. I look forward to seeing it in person maybe someday somewhere.

I am really in awe of these skaters doing so amazingly well years after their competing - especially the older ones.. I really used to like the professional world champs.. :)

She was fantastic! Her jumps were just :cheer2: and such a good strectch in her spirals, very impressive :swoon:

I feel fortunate to see some of the finest skater from the 6.0 system competing together and you can only hope that there will be other competitions like this. You would think it could work in Europe and North America as well..
