That is not the point. Someone made an absurd statement that NO ONE knows who Lysacek is. Having 64,000+ Twitter followers says otherwise.

They didn't mean it literally, they just mean he's not a household name like Tonya Harding etc. It's just that skaters aren't known as widely anymore because there's either no scandal or no one is dominating for long periods of time.

I'm from the US, and I have to say that hardly anyone knows anything about skating. A lot of people I know don't even know Tonya Harding. I'd say that Sasha Cohen is probably very well known, but none of the male skaters.

I really don't think the average American knows who Joannie is (by name).

I asked 4 people in my office to name male figure skaters and got Browning, Boitano, and Hamilton (twice). When I asked for a current one 3 said Weir., the other no idea. All thought Kwan was a gold medalist. One thought she was still skating.
None could name the Canadian ladies skater whose mother died rigbt before the Olympics. Three remembered the story.

Just like in a few months I'll know the names of tons of swimmers, but by December it will probably just be Phelps if I'm called upon to name one.

First of all, lol at anyone that tries to make anything Johnny says literal. It never works that way with Johnny  You're just going to end up butthurt trying to puzzle the statement about nobody knowing who Evan is  Besides, it's just not a Johnny interview if he doesn't take a swipe at Evan :slinkaway

Thank you for the translation. I don't care if he wins or loses when he comes back, I'm looking forward to it. I watch skating in part to be moved, and entertained, and... well, let's face it, they don't give international gold medals to anyone other than PChids anyway, so I may as well be entertained while watching the battle for silver and bronze :scream:

    :rollin::rollin::rollin: Yes please!

...oh, were you not serious? :( I really want a series that follows a skater (or several) around for a season and shows what they REALLY do.

    Maybe that's the point? :p

Oh, I would LOVE for it to happen, but the likelihood is not very good I think. If only our aspiring divos could engage in a sex tape that goes viral to a majority of the population, then the idea of a successful US reality tv show could become more of a reality. Maybe we should all start a letter writing campaign to the mucho sexy Andy Cohen; I ain't too proud to beg! :rollin:

I was thinking maybe Claire Ferguson and Morry Stillwell can roll a giant egg onto the ice for the men's short program in Sochi for Johnny to emerge from.

On a related note... has anyone heard when the second season of "Be Good Johnny Weir" is scheduled to make its debut on the Logo channel?

It will only work if he emerges from the egg bleeding from his groin area with a stunningly paranoid expression on his face. *wonders how many of the ISU judges would fall out of their chairs*

Wasn't there already a show like that, years ago, with a bunch of up-and-coming girls? Seems to me it was on Discovery.

No idea. Whenever Logo is asked, they just go "We will let you know when we know!" I've been wondering if they want to launch alongside the new skating season at this point...

Supposingly after RuPaul's show is finished for the season, Johnny's will return.

After 7-8 months I calmed down enough to watch the skating. I think I should had finished 3rd in Vancouver.

SM: You once said when you skate you are in the world of your dream and you want to take the viewer there with you. What does that world look like?
JW: Like the inside of the cloud. It's all sparkling and smells with Chanel n. 5

    Delusional. :p

And this sums up Johnny Weir and is also why I dislike him.

He's a terrible narcissist and his 'weirdness' in contrived in order to provide him a lot of attention (pot > kettle, I know :D).

Having said that, it is true that Weir is the only celebrity amongst the current crop of US skaters. A Z-list celebrity he might be but a celebrity nevertheless and as a number of posters have remarked already in this thread, some people (who know nothing about skating) actually know who he is.

And love him or hate him, you do talk about him.

So yeah he might bring attention to skating and that's always a good thing.

Yes, though I think I saw it on The Learning Channel in 2006. It followed four US female skaters in the 2005/2006 season, one of whom was Alissa Czisny.

I would love to see Johnny's show!

Very open and honest interview.
But not too sure whether the 'old people who rule the sport' like being told they are old :D, and mothers who send their sons to figure skating like the idea that 'figure skating has gay reputation'. :p
Good luck Johnny. Just do what you love to do! Be yourself as you say. There is only ONE AND ONLY ONE JOHNNY WEIR.

When Weir says he should have won bronze, the question is who should have won gold and silver? I wouldn't be surprised if he said Plushenko and Takahashi. ;)

That would have been a really good follow up question. And I think you are right. I would say Lysacek and Takahashi, but Johnny probably wouldn't. I think Johnny should have been 4th, or maybe 5th.

I guess we'll never know what he really thought the results should have been, but my guess is he'd say 1) Plushenko (quad), 2) Lysacek, 3) Weir (because Takahashi fell).

I can't see Weir putting a clean 8 triple Lysacek above himself with 8 clean triples. :p I was thinking he would put Takahashi second because of his artistry and the fact that the fall was on a quad. Weir is no fan of Patrick Chan so he's not in the equation. He might have had Lambiel for silver. Lambiel was shaky, but he didn't fall and he attempted two quads.

    He wrote about Olympics:

So I think he would put on the podium neither Takhashi nor Lambiel.

After such statement I wondered if he ever even tried to understand how COP works.

My guess is he would have preferred: 1) Plush; 2) Evan; 3) Himself.

I do think he should have beaten Lambiel and Chan, but not Takahashi.

Gallant says: I believe I have what it takes to win!
Goofus says: I'll win because the others all suck.

But that's so johnny. He's always taken negative attention as better than no attention at all, and he'll say anything outrageous if it will get him press. He's never been polite or nice, that's why he's famous.

I found it interesting that he was "shocked" that Evan congratulated him on his marriage. I always kind of got the feeling that Johnny had more of a problem with Evan than Evan had with Johnny.
