I have him locked in a spare room that is more protected from trees that might fall, and despite his favorite food and a nice fleecey blanket for sleeping, he's not happy. Luckily the horrid winds are drowning out his protests.

My daughter and her family are hunkered down in Cherry Hill, NJ which is just east of Philly. I think the storm veered further south than originally anticipated, but then this makes her in that deadly Northeast quadrant. I just talked to her and they still had power. My grandson who's 4 had to give me a breathless account of everything storm-related he had seen on TV. He didn't seem to be scared....just intrigued at big twucks lying on their sides and twaffic lites hanging sideways. I am not too worried, but yeah-I am a little. Lots of trees around them. One of them in the backyard had 3 trunks and one trunk has already broken off but it fell away from the house. She said there were 40 mph sustained winds with 70 mph bursts right now-the worst is yet to come.

Hoboken's evacuation shelter is tres deluxe with a home-cooked chicken dinner, not canned food.

Southpaw, are you in danger of flooding, or is it mainly the wind?

Flooding is my bigger issue, but who knows what the wind can possibly bring. :yikes:

at 9pm Pierce will be talking about it.. apparently Donald Trump tried to get something done.. but nothing can be done - just people to be prepared when it fully collapses I guess?? I would hate to be in that area with all that glass around and that huge crane..

There have been SO MANY faked photos today that I can't take any of these seriously any more. That looks fake to me but my pessimism may be getting the best of me, lol

What??? Are you too close to Ridley Creek? :(

Idiot front neighbor (apt building directly faces mine) left all his balcony furniture out again ala Irene. Way to have potential projectiles...

Still here . Lost cable for a few minutes, but it's back. I have candles lit just in case. I can't imagine I'm going to have power forever.

Watching "Ask the Governor" and he's being pretty energetic. He said he'll probably need to take a day long nap in a week or so.

    That's for sure.

Looks like I'll get a hot dinner tonight at least, though I can't imagine it'll be the case tomorrow.

PRkid's friend texted from Silver Spring, water in her basement climbing towards her bedroom. :yikes: Parents in Jenkintown, north of Philly, have lost power at assisted living facility but the generator's come on. Stepbrother and SIL in Sudbury, MA have lost power, they're on generator. And I am sitting next to the window in my bedroom on my old fashioned desktop computer listening to buckets of rain and wind up to 50 mph.

Sheesh. This is already getting old.

I heard about a building collapse but the picture I saw (only a brief second) looked more like the side of a building collapsed. It didn't appear as if an entire building caved in but just the brick wall...make sense? I hope I am right because that is much less severe for anyone inside.

By the way, this is really odd to actually watch Hurricane footage. I am usually in the Hurricane and my power goes out as soon as it gets close enough. I remember when that happened with Katrina and power finally came back on and we find out about all the devastation.

Every now and then the NJ news channel shows pics that residents send in - they just showed two shark pics and the dude was like "I don't know, I think some people might be having fun with us..."

My glass top patio table shattered yet nothing hit it. Totally creepy. Winds terrible here in Boston area. Still have power and TV, knock on wood.

you may be referring to the building in Manhattan...unless the exact same thing happened in Jersey City Heights

OK, this is really trite, but our local NBC station is still on day long hurricane news, and we switched to high def to try to find evening shows, but cannot find The Voice, only more local weather. So we are watching Dancing with the Stars, and Giles made me happy.

Really incredible images. Water rushing out of the tunnel, and 4 feet of water rushing through Stuyvesant town in Manhattan like a river.

CNN just reported that there is 3 feet of water on the floor of the NYSE.

ETA: CNN retracted - unreliable source.

They just showed a still image of water rushing down the stairs and into a subway platform that looked like something out of an Hollywood disaster movie.

My house in Delaware is still okay (haven't heard from my sitter, and the power is still on). I am in Williamsburg at a conference, and all is well. Rainy and a little windy, but no problems.

Still have power here. I'm actually really surprised about that. Heading to bed now, but hopefully there won't be too much damage in the morning. Good luck everyone!
