I want to start this thread for a few purposes:

    1. Can we use it to keep track of updates from skaters who live/train in the affected areas?

    2. This is just a question: how might this lead to problems with CoC transportation?

Most airlines have canceled flights in/out of airports in NYC, Philly, Baltimore, and D.C. on Mon and Tues. But none of the U.S. competitors are flying from those cities, so I don't think it would be a problem. To fly to China from the U.S., one would fly west.

I knew that much. :) I guess none of the US-based skaters scheduled for CoC train in the east.

Johnny Weir lives in New Jersey, during the last hurricane he tweeted photos of the water surrounding his apartment complex. Any skaters who train at the Ice House in Hackensack should expect it to be closed, it's in a flood zone.

Is it wrong to vacuum lines into the carpet so Sandy thinks better of me?

Hopefully the Chelsea Piers rink has not fallen into the river. Also concerned about the Rockefeller Center rink since it is in a hole in the ground.

The pictures I saw of Chelsea Piers at high tide, with the storm surge, showed the first level - at least - under water. Crazy! That being said, no CoC competitors would be training there. A more salient question might be the impacts on skaters on the east coast training for Eastern Sectionals which is not so far away. It seems some rinks have power & some don't - restoring power is likely to take awhile so some rinks could lose their ice. Any have any info on this?

Agh :/ sectionals is already about two weeks away, isn't it? Time flies...

If some of the rinks don't have power, my guess is those skaters likely a) don't have power either and/or b) would have a hard time getting to where the rink is.

Praying for everyone...I hope the athletes and their families are safe!

She's not a skater but Johnny Weir's agent Tara gave birth to a healthy girl early this morning.

But, she was a skater, so it counts! :) USFS Eastern Section posted on Facebook that Eastern Sectionals is confirmed a go - no problems with rink there. Chelsea Piers out of commission for awhile for sure. Any news on other rinks in the area?

Sounds like the power might be out at the Ice House, Johnny was tweeting about being worried about not having ice just before his first Grand Prix.

Ice House in Hackensack is out, streets are flooded and power probably off. Someone said Floyd Hall Arena was open but no confirmation.

Atlantic City is under water, there is no electricity and the hotels are closed. Highly doubtful things will be up and running anytime soon.

I thought I heard on the news last night that they were going to try to get the casinos open again in a couple days. Obviously, that depends on how quickly they can restore power. I'm sure they have a lot of out-of-state crews helping them.

Thanks for the update, Debbie. Hope the new date will work for all the cast/show attendees, and be held @ the same venue (or in that region).

She must have left them in the lockers in the locker room. I wonder how she got into the building.

The interior of the Field House at Chelsea Piers was destroyed in the storm. The storm surge pushed up the floor, etc. That's the facility with gymnastics and etc. I haven't heard anything about actual damage to the rinks, which are in a separate building from the Field House, but to my knowledge there hasn't been power in that neighborhood yet. I know that the rink there is closed.

Mennen Arena in NJ is acting as a shelter, so I'd imagine there's no skating.

South Mountain in Essex, NJ is closed, no power. Ice Vault in NJ is closed, no power. Ice House in Hackensack is also closed. I haven't heard about Floyd Hall.

    Yonkers in NY is open.

That rink must be packed. There are quite a few NY/NJ skaters training for Easterns. I hope their training hasn't been disrupted too much. Any word on the rink in Munsey?

Is the South Mountain Arena the same as the Codey Arena? That's near South Orange, correct? My friends live there and I haven't been able to reach them. I'm sure they have no power. :(

Fortunately, none of the rinks in our area lost power and were all open yesterday. One opened for Tues night FS, actually. At my club's home rink, both compressors broke yesterday, but I don't think that had anything to do with the storm. They got one working last night so are open for business.

Sport-o-rama in Monsey is open. South Mountain is the Codey Arena, yes. I never know what to call that one.

I think that Ice Hutch in Mt. Vernon is open as well, but I'm not sure about that one.

What about Aviator or World's Fair? Sasha mentioned "Off to Rockefeller" after getting her skates, so they must not have gotten damaged. Surprising that it did not flood since it's in a hole.

Packing...in the dark...for 15 day trip. Hell! Tomorrow night JFK-->CDG--->SVO!

so it would appear he is heading to Russia early. Guess he has arranged to use a rink over there so he can keep training.

We didn't get massive rain. It was the storm surge that flooded lower Manhattan. Rockefeller is in midtown, so may have been okay.

I seem to remember in 2008, Johnny had two grand prix events close together so he stayed in Russia to train after COR (as it was called then.)
