I will be the first to wish all Canadians on FSU a Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy your Thanksgiving week-end, however you might be spending it. Beautiful weather is forecasted for Southwestern Ontario and my family has planned a couple of hikes to enjoy the weather and the start of the autumn colour.

I am planning to brine a turkey for the first time. Fingers crossed that it turns out OK.

I found out yesterday I have the three days off. Didn't expect it, so I suppose I will cut the lawns and sleep. A family member says she will be bringing a turkey on Monday so I don't even have to shop.

Good luck on cooking your first turkey algonquin. It will taste wonderful.

    Happy Thanksgiving all.

Happy Thanksgiving! And kudos for picking the harvest season as a time to have it.

What food traditions are common for Thanksgiving dinner in Canada? Turkey? Cranberry Sauce? Pumpkin Pie? (I have heard from friends living overseas during the holidays that cranberry sauce is liked by the locals, turkey is considered weird, and pumpkin pie is right up there with the general American take on Vegemite.)

The Canadian Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 2nd Monday in October and in the calendar of the Anglican Church of Canada the Sunday of the same weekend is Harvest Thanksgiving Sunday. Churches tend to be decorated with the fruits (& vegetables) of the harvest and often autumn leaves are included. In my experience, we tend to eat turkey with dressing/stuffing and cranberry sauce/relish and to have pumpkin pie for dessert.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Just making my apple pie (beautiful daughter's boyfriend's favourite). Is it just me or does it seem like two weeks ago we were saying "Happy Thanksgiving"? :)

Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, yams, turnip, broccoli, gravy, cranberry sauce, pumpkin and apple pie...Tums...;)

Thanksgiving here tends to be more low-key than in the US. Of course, we don't have Black Friday to go along with; we still have to get through Halloween! Many people have their turkey dinners with family on the Sunday and use the Monday as the travel day to get back home.

It will be a nice weekend here...the leaves haven't quite yet blown off the trees (that's a little unusual), and it will be sunny with temps in the low/mid-teens (C). My stepdad and his wife, and my son and his family will be here for dinner on Monday -- none of them have to work Tuesday.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

In honour of Thanksgiving there was a slight hint of frost tonight - my car was fogged up.

The weather here is definitely not like a normal Thanksgiving weekend - we've had a heatwave and have set temperature records the past 2 days! And it's another blue sky and sunshine day on the actual Thanksgiving Day :)
