    The first Seder (if you are celebrating it outside Israel-you have to do it twice) is on Monday evening.
    Passover, Pesach in Hebrew, got its name from the word passed over.
    During the ten plagues, G-D passed over the Jewish houses.
    Passover has 4 names:

    Chag HaPesach/Passover;
    Chag HaAviv/The Holiday of the Spring (it happens on Spring);
    Chag HaMatzot/The Holiday of the Matzas (we eat lots of those during that holiday ;) );
    and
    Chag HaCherut/The Holiday of Freedom.

    May those of you who celebrate this Holiday of Freedom, have:

    A Zissen Pesach!
    Happy Passover!
    !חַג פֶּסַח שָׂמֵחַ

    And it always makes me :rofl: when tradition meets modernity like in this commercial for the movies channel in Israel.

    Happy Passover!

    How is "tzimmes" pronounced? I will send this recipe to my sister in law. Maybe she can get my brother to try it. He loves sweet potatoes but always ruins them with nasty marshmellows. :scream:

    Tz sound in Hebrew is equal to the zz sound that you make when you say: pizza.
    This is probably the easier way to explain this sound to English speakers. ;)

    i should be pronounced as ee
    mmes should be pronounced as the word mess.

    I'm sure it's delicious but I have doubts about someone (Martha) who measures her rugalach with ruler! :p Azizen Pesach!

    I made mine with sweet potatoes, caramelized sweet onions, dried apricots, prunes, OJ, lemon juice and a little honey. Oh and a pinch of salt. And a sprinkle of cinnamon. I was worried about it being too sweet but the lemon juice and OJ balanced it out well. Just a spoonful left over.

    Yes, it is.
    I was talking about the "tz" sound which is very common in Hebrew as it is in Yiddish, and is very hard to pronounce for English speakers. ;)
