To be fair all the Russian team have been withdrawn 'to allow them to recover from post-Olympic injuries'.

That said, it is all very worrying and I'm just glad that Alexandrov is staying on as Aliya's coach!

Yes, I hear that Alexandrov is staying with Mustafina long-term.

IIRC he was Produnova's personal coach too, wasn't he?

NBC is showing bits and pieces of the Kellogg's tour right now and as much as I love gymnastics (and especially the Fierce Five), I am extremely glad I haven't spent any money to see this tour. :( It looks like they tried way too hard to be creative and different with the routines but none of it is really working for me. It was fun to see the trampoline folks but a lot of it is a little too cheesy for me. It is nice to see the girls again and know that things are going well for them though. I've also had a few Jake Dalton :swoon: sightings too so that makes me happy. :)

I'm watching it now. Douglas is doing a watered down version of her hideous floor exercise. I understand why she's not going for the big tricks, but this routine is so much worse without some great tumbling to distract from the choreo. I rather like the trampoline people. The opening with the Olympic rings is absurd yet boring, except for the rhythmic ladies who did some cool things.

ETA: I actually preferred it back in the day when these shows featured the gymnasts doing real routines with a bit of music and fancy lighting thrown in. One of the highlights of the 92 show was Miller and Gutsu doing the compulsory floor routine side by side.

The side-by-side trampoline athletes were fun, with good costumes and lighting to show off their skills.

I've loved watching him so far! Doing really well considering that everyone else at the top of the scoreboard has previous dance experience, and of course hopefully it will help keep some of the interest in the sport that there was during the Olympics.

Wouldn't it be fun if him and Shawn could dance together? It would probably be awful due to their lack of combined experience and expertise but it would be fun to see two Olympian dancers together.

Kyla is done with the tour and is already at camp. :) I have to say I've done a total 180 with Ms. Ross these past 8 months. I want her to be world all-around champion this year. LOL! :cheer:

Oh great, I am glad she's back at work. How is Bross doing? She is on tour right?

I'll be happy with her as AA World Champ so long as she sorts her floor out and learns how to count :p

 deal. I find her to be a beautiful 3 event gymnast, I still can't believe she has that Fx. It's like watching someone who looks like a ballerina dance like Kate Gosslin on dancing with the stars.

I have read that Bross is looking nice and doing more skills than last year, tumbling again (including a randi!), and can actually dance well with the hip hop stuff they are doing on tour. She can be world AA champ too. You know, where they both have the same score on every event, and the individual judges give all the same scores, including the Australian judge too so the tie breaker doesn't matter. ;)

Ross could do a good floor, but that choreo is so bad.

No more Americans winning AA titles. Go Mustafina, Komova, Iordache and Yao Jinnan. ^_^

I think this quad is really going to emphasise the difference between the US and the rest of the world. The rest of the world can beat or be equal to the US on Beam and Uneven Bars. But the Americans have so much difficulty on floor (which is why Americans with lesser floors I think will need to specialise) and have 10-12 gymnasts that can pull off Amanars.

 I love how you just come out and say it. I'm not mad 'atcha. :D I wouldn't mind those ladies win it either, Komova finally getting one would be nice too but I think that she was cursed by an evil gypsy somewhere. There's also Gabby, Ohashi, and Finnegan to deal with. I was expecting things to die out but this upcoming year could be just as good as last year. Mai Murakami for world FX champ would be great, I'm hoping for Gabby, Kyla, Mac, and Anna Li for worlds at this point for the US.

Getting excited already :biggrinbo I wonder if Gabby and Aly plan on doing American Cup this year? It's in Aly's home state and I'm sure Gabby would love to have that title after outscoring everyone last year.

I'm ready for the next season. Iordache and Jinnan badly need redemption. My feelings on Olympics are mixed but I'm over them now. Currently watching videos from the Mexico Open. Wow Dementieva has really regressed. Neither her beam or Uneven Bars look good anymore.

Though it is lovely seeing Ukranian Oleg Verniaiev and Russian Belyavskiy. I hope the Russian men show the potential they showed at the Olympics. So lovely.

Non-team worlds just confuse me. Is the US likely to send its top two AAers and two specialists?

Me too. I don't get the point in them. Either they should have a full Worlds event with the team competition, or not hold the event at all, IMO.

I just finished viewing some of the ISU skating videos, I was wondering if the International Federation of Gymnastics has ever made a similar video for either Artistic or Rhythmic gymnastics. I know absolutely nothing about the technical side of gymnastics, and I'd like to become somewhat knowledgeable. :COP:

Komova will never get the benefit of the doubt the last two times were clear.

Not only are the Americans much better coached, trained, and run than the past, hence producing much better and deeper team of gymnasts, I believe they are now stronger politically behind the scenes than the Russians who like figure skating have dropped to almost null and void in that department. Anytime a Karolyi is involved you know they can help your countries scores, and Russians currently have nobody to do this.

That's because currently a lot of them are too busy crying and pouting about mistakes instead of trying to fight for a vault landing.

    :EVILLE:

Khorkina, Boguinskaya, Shushunova, Lyssenko, and the other soviet power-diva's would make this team burst into tears just by staring at them.

Perhaps. But Komova normally had a pretty big advantage over Douglas on bars, and Douglas bars scores magicalliy shot up pretty big time.. As did Douglas beam...That in and of itself was questionable. Essentially Komova's much better bars should have given her a cushion to take a few steps on vault.

Komova also deserved a higher score on floor. I was fine with the result either way still, unlike the 2011 Worlds which was one of the most ridiculous results in history, but I do agree Komova clearly gets no gifts from the judges. She is going to have to clearly earn anything she gets, as she definitely is not a judges favorite in the least.

The US Men's Olympic team apparently made it through the Olympics injury free only to suddenly self destruct! Sam Mikulak suffered a calf tear earlier this month and now John Orozco has a torn ACL and torn meniscus. Sam doesn't need surgery and should be in a cast for a month. Not sure what that means for him as far as NCAA and next summer. Torn ACL, I know more about. Although not for Gymnasts. This season is probably shot for him. They say it takes two years to really be back in form from an ACL tear, although not that long to get back to competing. And this after he ruptured his Achilles in 2010 and Sam had two broken ankles in 2011.

Good thing next year is not a team worlds?
