If Afan is out, I wonder if Pavlova may make the team. She could do beam and vault, two events Afan would have been competing on. Paseka is another option but she is pretty much only useful on vault. Russia loves to screw over Pavlova, though, so I wont hold my breath.

What Tesla said. All of this is just in addition to what was already a half Komova in London.

Paseka got the bronze at Euros on Bars this year. I don't think she'd make bar finals, but she could conceivably do bars.

Afan is having leg surgery. No word on the problem itself, the cause or her worlds chances :(

I completely agree. Even before then, Komova always seemed extremely frail, both physically and emotionally, and she never seemed to have the stamina to make it all the way through a full competition. She would typically ace the qualifying round, then lose momentum until there was nothing left by the time of event finals. If she does compete again, I would think she would have to do a more limited bars/beam role.

Simple surgery for Afan, less than a week recovery time.

Also, at a Dutch comp...Rebecca Downie, Inexplicably left off the GB Olympic team showed a 6.6 UB routine

Downie also scored 14.4 with a 6.0 beam. Idiot selection last year

Izbasa returned, with a stag leap after her triple twist and full twist after the 2.5, she'd have a 6.6 SV on floor which is interesting.

Bulimar still has a shit bars and not pushing on beam and floor. She still won AA and beam.

Ruby Harrold also showed a DTY, won bars with a 14.7, 6.4 sv (6.5 in quals).

Hannah whelan had a 6.0 beam in quals, but her floor has regressed so much (I reckon she'll be off the team next year)

Tunney also showed a 6.5 bars routine, but fell in quals and finals. British bars are in flying form and when Jupp comes back next year, they'll also have stellar beam too.

Downie, Tunney, Harrold, Jupp, Whelan have 3 DTYS, 3x6.5 sv on bars, 3x6.0 on beam and all of them are solid floor workers.

I read that Alexandrov interview the other day, but I might have to re-read it all again; it's so :watch:

The Rod's sound horrific; how exactly is Russian gymnastics going to grow and succeed with them in charge? It's baffling.

I'd also love to hear more about his tough times with Boginskaya and Bilozerchev! :p

It was the best beam of Downie's career I think!

Downie hasn't landed a DTY in about 5 years and is unlikely to regain it IMO...
I saw that Jupp still hasn't resumed training so I'm not sure how likely we are to see her full strength next year.

Having said that, It is great that the GB team has more depth now. And as soon as Tyesha Mattis and Ellie Downie turn senior, there will be serious competition to get on the team which can only be a good thing! I wouldn't be suprised to see Mattis with a (fugly but fully rotated) amanar next year.

The Russian WAG team for Worlds:

    Mustafina (AA)
    Nabieva (AA)
    Komova
    Paseka
    Rodionova

(They're only allowed four, yes? So I presume one is an alternate)

    No Afan :(

So much for Afan's surgery just being a 'routine' procedure :( So Komova is in but not doing AA which means that Biles is most likely going to be World AA champion :fragile: unless Musty pulls off some almighty upgrades, Iordache suddenly learns how to swing bars or one of the chinese shows up really in shape.:drama:

ETA: Just read that the final spot is between Komova and Rodionova. I guess it'll come down to just how well Komova can come back from her latest illness. Poor thing is so :fragile:

Ross can beat her. She almost did at Nationals.

This is supposed to make me feel better? Such a shame Maroney isn't doing AA - or is that still a possibility based on camp? I know her bars are pants and her beam is very hit or miss but at least she's interesting!!

It is a shame. Apparently Afan won't be back full training until December - so yea, all this about it being minor was clearly inaccurate. Sigh.

My interest in worlds is already waning.

Mustafina is throwing the triple twisting Yurchenko. So she will win the AA.

I wish Pavs could have made the team. She would have filled in nicely. Nabieva has no business doing AA with that floor routine.

Downie actually had her DTY back last year...strongest of all the Brits
    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xNqqhaiUlXU

Her beam was coming good too...considering the fact that she was only back from injury, this performance even with the fall scored higher than all of the Brits did in quals at Olympics.

Considering the DTY, solid beam and excellent bars...the choice of Imogen Cairns And Pinches over Downie was truly ridiculous.

Becky would have brought .5 more than Cairns on vault, 2 points more than pinches did on beam, 1 point more than Cairns, and around .4 more than Whelan on Bars, you're talking an extra 2-3 points....in TF.

This worlds can only be saved by Mckayla Maroney. For everything. If she even won the men's vault and pommel horse, well then it would be the best meet in years.. Please bring it McKayla :cheer:

Oh wow, I didn't realise the DTY was that good last year. I hope she brings it back for next year because it seems that she's been going down the beam-bars specialist route. It's really paid-off on Beam so far. Much improved! Yes, the selection was totally ridiculous - completely crazy. Downie and Francis would have been much better choices but you must get over it some day, Poths ;) It was last year.

With Afanasyeva (and now Bulimar) out, pretty good if she can hit. I think her only competition will come from Iordache and Biles.

Izbasa finally managed to get a good score at Romanian Nationals with 14.95 and since she's only doing FX at Worlds, I wouldn't count her out with a few more weeks to work on her routine.

Chinese nationals showed Chungsong has a shot. Her and Jinnan are are also bars favourites now. Shame Chungsong only has an FTY, otherwise she'd have a shot at the AA.

I think Tunney has a decent shot at a medal on floor if she cleans up and Izbasa will probably bring it.

Vault at Chinese nationals was ace with lots of Tsuk doubles and Rudis. I kind of want them to bring Jinnan, Chungsong, and two vault specialists.
