The same was true for the previous unnamed plaintiff from California. I suspect it still gives her some level of anonymity for people less familiar with the sport though. The details in the article were all in the complaint, which is why I suspect they were printed since the complaint is public anyway.

Nonetheless, it's all very sad :( I really hope that these women coming forward leads to changes in the program. But I'm a little afraid that there will just be scapegoats and nothing will change going forward.

Yes - I knew who that one was pretty quickly - but this one was even more obvious because she named her coaches in the lawsuit along with Nassar, USAG, etc.

Anyone plans to attend worlds in Montreal next year? I have a hard time picturing myself watching gymnastics in the Olympic Stadium. I'm sure they'll figure things out, but I still can't help but to wonder what kind of view we'll end up with!

It's really neat that they asked Nadia to be the official spokesperson! :) I'm impressed she can still speak French, and even better than what I could remember from years ago.

As for those accusations towards USA Gymnastics, the team doctor and the coaches... of course the entire environment is toxic, and put the gymnasts at risk. I guess I'm just surprised that it's "only" now that there is such a lawsuit. I hope things will be better with Liukin. Sometimes I think back to Doni Thompson's retirement late in 1995, after worlds, and how no matter how strange it is for a gymnast to retire so close to the Olympics, she may have been the one to make the healthiest decision.

OK and Belyavskiy has got married, AND Ignatyev :drama:

Two cuties I had my eye on :wuzrobbed

So that means that this year alone - Mustafina, Afansyeva, Grishina, Ablazyin/Semenova, Belyavskiy and Ignatyev have got married.

Oh and Anna Rodionova is pregnant.

I have been so engrossed in the election that I totally missed all of the tea here. Congrats to all of the newlyweds!

I really want to, but the timing is not great for me at work. If it were only held a week earlier, I'd say definitely yes, but with that timing, I'm going to have to wait and see. Might be a very last-minute decision.

I'd probably be more torn up about not going if it were a full blown worlds with team competition...maybe I'll keep in mind Stuttgart 2019 if I have a different job or the timing is a bit different (zero interest in going to Qatar for 2018).

There isn't going to be a team competition??

Correct - it will be the same format as the post-Olympic Worlds in 2005, 2009, and 2013 where each country can send up to four gymnasts and up to three can compete in each event in qualifications (so either three all-arounders or two all-arounders and two event specialists) and then all-around finals and event finals are held.

The theory is that most countries are re-building in the post-Olympic year and many would have trouble fielding full teams.

I just finished reading The End of the Perfect 10. If you like gymnastics, it's worth a read. It was a bit slow at first but picked up in the second section which started with the 2000 Olympic team, Bela's first foray as team coordinator. It didn't go well and the gymnasts talked about their experiences as "guinea pigs." Dr. Larry Nassar is quoted extensively in the book which is ironic considering the allegations that have come to light since the book has been published.

Has anyone else read it? Thoughts?

I have this book sitting on my shelf and have been meaning to read it. Going to get away for a few days after Christmas and spend it in a cabin in the woods so will save it for then. Thanks for reminding me!

Tickets for Montreal Worlds will be on sale tomorrow at noon per their Twitter account. Fingers crossed they're not too expensive!

http://mtl2017gymcan.com/en/get-tickets/

ETA: Tickets acquired. Probably just as well it's not a full Worlds, women's AA and both days of EF finals was as much as I could reasonably ask my parents to cover as a Christmas present. And 3 days in a row of commuting to the Big O is more than enough!

I purchased all event tics silver level and they were only 221.00! They were 30% off as I bought them day 1. Very fair I thought and way less than 2003 Worlds. Also ticket will be mailed to me in about 2 weeks or you can choose email tickets to print.

Yes, it's definitely not too bad!

But I know my parents and they'd freak if I went over $200. I just wanted to make sure I had a good seat for the prime events. :) (Not disregarding men's AA but it's a weekday)

I've always wanted to attend a gymnastics world championships, so even though the year after the Olympics isn't the most anticipated one, it's still a dream coming true for me. :D I've also bought everything, I also thought the price was fair, and I won't even need a hotel, so I really can't complain.

Well, 1985 worlds was after the Olympics and also in Montreal, and it was still a very interesting one, so we'll see. :)

Three time Olympian Lisa Skinner, who has been a Cirque du Soleil performer for the past 10 years, fell during her number and broke a vertebra in her neck and an arm last Sunday. Fortunately, she should make a full recovery. It was the first time she performed home.

Cirque du Soleil gymnast faces 'long, hard road' to recovery

Also, here is an interview from last year where she talked about her work. Her number looks like a beautiful one.

It's been a really bad week for the Cirque du Soleil. A few days ago, a technician, who was also also a son of a Cirque du Soleil founder, was killed in a backstage accident in San Francisco. Two days ago, a show was interrupted near the end after an artist fell, but fortunately he only suffered a minor back injury. Another artist was very seriously hurt on October 20th, in Orlando.

Thank goodness she's ok. I loved her Sydney FX performances. It always irked me that the international broadcast never showed her qualifying round FX that scored 9.725 and qualified her for the very competitive FX finals. I bet the Aussie crowd LOVED it.

ETA:

NVM, I found a broadcast video of it. I loved that she did creative dance elements.
