Headline here says 'At least 5 dead' but the news has just announced 'At Least 12' :(

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/10214661.stm

    Goodness knows why :(

One of my best friends is from Cumbria and is up there visiting at the moment.

Cumbria is famous for being very quiet and is home of the famous 'Lake District'.

I just saw this now on ITN. Shocking seems such a weak word to describe my reaction to the news. Utterly horrifying. :(

Latest BBC report says 12 confirmed dead and 25 injured with gunshot wounds. Three of those are said to be fighting for their lives. This is already the worst shotgun attack in the UK since Dumblaine. :(

How completely horrific. And it would seem that the gunman didn't even know most (if not all) of those who he killed/injured -- just drove around shooting at random. :(

Horrendous. I was in Northern England a bit during my vacation last year, and I just loved it. What an awful thing :(

I will never understand what directs people to do things like this. It's just crazy.

That's just it -- there is not "understandable" reason behind rampages like this. Something snaps inside a disturbed person's brain and they go off on a murderous rampage. :( And to those who argue that "guns don't kill, people do" -- I think it would be very difficult to kill or wound very many people using a knife while driving by in a car.

Hi, I have heard from my friend (who was in an affected village) Luckily, she and her 4 mth old baby left the area alightly earlier.

She tells me she knows of some of the dead, a twin spinster sister and a guy trimming a hedgw.

    Devastating wherever :(

Awful and sad. I heard on the news tonight, alongside a story that here in SF a crazed driver ran into 3 bikers in 3 separate locations. Not the same magnitude, but the same horrible randomness in victims.

This is so desperately sad. What on earth possesses a person and sets them off on a village to village murderous rampage destroying so many lives and so many families.
