    Yuna Kim.

Whenever I see her 3 lutz with quite too huge and definite out-edge, I feel pain in "my" ankle.

I can't believe there are not more votes for Gracie Gold. Her technique is near perfect. The height and distance stunning. She is the only woman I have seen who can do a Rippon lutz.....and she makes it look so easy. I just watched her knock off one of the most gorgeous triple lutz jumps, in spotlight no less, at a local skating show this summer. Incredibly impressive.

Also Sebeystyen and Kerrigan had amazing true lutzes.

I think partly why Gracie doesn't have more votes is that she's early in her career. If and when she gets more consistent with her jumps
    she will get more attention.

Tonya's lutz in her LP from 94 Olympics (from the reskate) was HUGE and awesome. I always thought it was a nice way to silence her critics!

I love Gracie's, Malinina's, and also Courtney Hicks's too- the one she did in her Nationals Exhibition this year was AMAZING!

Yeah, I don't vote for skaters I've only seen for one season although her 3Lz is remarkable ...

... Dare I say that her entry edge into the 3Lz-3T is less flat than those of others currently being performed.

I need to see Gold go through atleast one season where she isnt bombing half the time before I would ever vote her for best any jump. Yes she has great jumps when she is on though. Even Volchkova delivered more cleanish performances than people remember, but she was so slow and bland between her huge jumps and Russian #3 almost her whole career, it still wasnt enough to place.

Well usually when she landed 3lz successfully, her 3lz is very good and receive so high GOE. but at that night, her two triple lutz were not good than her usual 3lz, though still better than some top skaters. So she received only +0.5 GOE on both first 3Lz-3t, and second 3Lz in FS while her all other success jumps received more than 1.0 GOE

Right, thank you, Karlon. I was in the bed watchng the video last night and I guess I was too sleepy;) Only I could remember was nice hight of her 3Lz. But as you wrote the second single 3Lz was not successful. The first 3Lz in the cascade was still good although unfortunately the landing of 3T was not successful and got lower marks than usual. Anyway I luuuuv her remarkable 3Lz :encore:

    1. Harding.
    2. Kim YuNa
    3. Midori Ito
    4. Volchkova

Ito had that wrapped leg and often jumped close to the boards. Volchkova had a great lutz with the occasionally slow gymnastic landing. Kim YuNa's lutz is not as big as Harding's, relatively. Harding, at 5'1", jumped a lutz that was at least twice her size, if not more. Kim YuNa does not, thus harding has the bigger lutz.

Harding's preparation for her 3lz is too long. I prefer YNK's 3 lutz over Harding's for that reason. Harding wasn't known for her jump consistency either, while NYK has perhaps the most consistent and reliable 3lutz in the history of ladies skating.

Harding's long edge entry was preferred by judges before the IJS because the position of the skate and quality of the tracing could be seen, and Harding was only inconsistent on the 3A. Every other triple was more reliable for Harding when she was 10Lb overweight than for most skaters when at peak condition. You can find footage of at least one good 3Lz from Tonya from every season from 1985 to 1994.

    ABSOLUTELY.

Also notice that even when she was 20-25 pounds overweight (Skate Canada 1992), she still had a HUGE 3 salcow and huge 3 loop. I always wondered if she was pregnant at that time, but then several weeks later at the Pro-Am, she had lost 10 pounds and was jumping much better (if she was pregnant, she was no longer pregnant by the Pro-Am).

Say whatever about Tonya, she was and is still the greatest Ladies jumper in American FS history. STILL THE GREATEST after what? 19 years........

These rumors were similar to Slutskaya's pregnancy rumors. Harding had to occasionally go on Prednisone, like Irina, but for her asthma. The water retention/bloating can look like pregnancy.

Why is anyone picking Volchchkova. She jumped up really high but then came down on one spot and her jump didnt go anywhere, no flow. Had she had such great jumps she would have won medals at Worlds even if she had nothing else. Slutskaya had nothing in her skating but jumps and she look at all she achieved, so Vicktoria's jumps must not have been that good or she would have done more.

I think Baiul deserves a mention. I know she never seemed to really master it, often two footing when she did land it but when it was on it was a beauty. She had so much speed and attack going into it and her height was ridiculous. She also had a deep outside edge. There was one that she did for a Disney special and it was one of the best I had ever seen. I wish I could find it. I think it was a Disney special staring Michelle Kwan and may have been when she was doing her Mulan number.

I also don't see the issue with people voting for Gold. The poll asks who had the best 3lutz. It isn't about who had the most consistent or who landed the 3lutz for the longest time. Theoretically, someone could win this poll who had only competed once...if their 3lutz was just that good.

I agree. Oksana Baiul's Lutz was textbook.

The best triple lutz in the LP of the 94 Olympics was a toss up between Baiul and Harding. Nobody else all night long even came close. Kerrigan had a great triple lutz combo in the short when she did it, but in the long her triple lutzes were never as great, often smaller and with less quality, when she even landed it that is. While I still disagree with the 94 Olympics result I also think that is one of several things that swayed the judges in Oksana's favor over Nancy. Her triple lutz that night was much bigger with a better running edge out, and Nancy's almost even looked two footed (although it wasnt).

Baiul did have an amazing lutz! I also think Chen Lu and her delayed-rotation lutz deserve mention as well.

Many still say that Oksana two-footed the 3toe thrown in near the end of her program. I always thought Nancy's 3lutz looked more two-footed than Oksana's 3toe.

Nancy had her foot crossed really low, but it was not 2-footed on slo-mo (at least to my eyes).
I don't know about Baiul's 3T. But for sure, her 3F was clearly 2-footed, Hahahaaaa

Oh it was definitely clean but first time around it wasnt so clear it was. Overall it was rather low and not an impressive jump, even though it brought a huge roar from the crowd. Kerrigan's lutzes in the short program are always great (except rare time she misses it) but the LP they are usually not nearly as good, and often missed altogether.

I agree with the poster who said in real time Nancy's triple lutz looked as possibly two footed as Biaul's triple toe, even though in slo mo it is clear that Baiul's triple toe was probably two footed, and Nancy's triple lutz wasnt.

duane said that it appeared even more to be two-footed than Baiul's triple toe did. I disagree.

    ETA: YMMV, of course. :shuffle:

I think it's because of the camera angle that the two jumps were shot at. The camera shot Nancy's lutz almost nearly from the front near her free foot on landing, while Baiul's was from the side. When you looked at Baiul's triple toe in real time from the front, it was obvious that it was two footed. Plus Nancy's triple lutz was just a tad under-rotated which is why her feet were crossed so low on landing (but not enough to receive a < by today's standards).

I agree these 2 had amazing lutzs esp Chen in 95/96.
Kerrigans lutz was not as high or impressive as Baiul in the LP, but she attempted hers towards the back half of her program. Baiul did hers on fresh legs.

That was how she often did her jumps in competition. As Sandra mentioned, she sometimes did land jumps amazingly in practice. Her triple lutz was the caliber of a man's, but I only saw that happen in practice. Her upper body was a wreck in competition too. She seemed to hate the audience-- or get so nervous and distracted that the jumps became cautious and ill-timed.

    Last generation: Harding, Baiul

    Recent generation: Kim, Gold

Harding and Baiul had wonderful quality solo lutzes but then they never had to do all sorts of steps before it or tag a 3toe after it.

Well, in the SP they both were not allowed since the solo jump was a double and the second jump in the combo was a double, and they often still had as many steps before their solo 3Lz in their LP as Kostner had before her solo 3Lz in her SP ;)

Speaking of Kostner, her lutz can be spectacular. :encore: Especially now that she's no longer entering them at 50 mph. :yikes:
