Thanks Sylvia. Glad to see that Ross is on the roster. I was worried that he may be retiring
but that was just my own speculation.

Shoma is making his senior debut, good for him. I took notice of him at Jr. Worlds,
    talented young man.

Good for Ross! A bit afraid skating here after Jr Worlds is kinda hard for Shoma and Satoko.

Tony Lu is first in jr men

And dumb question: why do skaters like Miner and Miyahara compete here? Is it because they need somme ranking points for next season to get gps?

Eta Ashley Shin is first in jr ladies. Nice 3-3 but low spin levels

Disaster skate for Yushenko :( No combo and one spin didn't count. I hope she can skate well in the free and move up a lot.

Not a good boost of confidence for Miner to be beaten by Uno :(
This comp used to be a developmental comp for USFS. Surprised to see Miner here. Anyway, hope he does better in the free.

^ I assume it's to boost Ross' world standing and chances of earning a GP spot or two. That was why Rippon was sent last year.

Tony Lu won and Paolo won the free to pull up to second. Good showing!

Hoping for a good showing for Ashley Shin--she does seem to do better in the sp all season long though, but still hoping for her to do well.

I think Ross will do better in the FS. Shoma does not have a consistent 3A he attempted it at Jr. Worlds in his FS but fell.
He will need it now that he is moving up to Seniors also the quad too.

Good luck to Ross and Shoma in the FS!

I don't suppose there is a live stream link?

What's wrong with Yushenko? she was quite strong at the JGP event, scoring 159.86. In fact, from all competitions in this year (both Russian and international) she has never scored less than 141.48. Scoring 113.63 is extremely bad result for her. Is she injured? If she is in such a bad form, she should rather not compete at all, or the Federation may decide not to give her any JGP events next season!

Congratulations to Shoma for winning his first senior competition! I know it was a weak field but
this win should give him confidence. I see that he has a deduction. He probably fell on the 3A.
I hope by the time the new season begins he will have a somewhat consistent 3A.

Poor Ross he did not do well at all. His injury must still be an issue. Good for him for getting
out there and trying to get back on track.

    Uno fell on his opening 3A<, then landed 3Lz(e) and 6 more triples (3Lo, 2A-half loop-3F combo in 2nd half, 3Lo+2T, 3F, 2A+3T, 3S).

Considering Miner said he is still not fully recovered from his ankle sprain, he had a respectable showing here, landing both his 3A. He picks up 225 ISU World Standings ranking points, too.

I hope the ranking points help Ross, but I'm not sure this competition is going to help his confidence.

Ashley Shin placed second overall. Good showing but I can't help but feel her program wasn't cop friendly enough. I've followed her all season and she kept dropping slightly in the LP despite having decent jump content. One reason was definitely because her jump content was more front loaded.

5/2 is very unusual and odd at this point. It should be at least 3/4. Above her you have 4/3 and that's better but norm at this point is 3/4.

I assume Shin's coach front loads her short and long programs for a reason. ;) Shin cleanly landed all 3 of her jumping passes in her SP (3F+3T, 3Lo, 2A) before the halfway mark. She started her FS strongly by landing the 3Lz-half loop-3S, which is a new combo for her - she did 3Lz+2Lo as the first pass in her Nationals FS.

I'm glad Shin and Tennell were able to receive their Team USA jackets for this comp. (and Elena Taylor and Amy Lin at Challenge Cup in The Hague) because there won't be as many JGP ladies' slots to fill this fall. :(

Shin got low levels in the spins in the sp too which lowered her score a little (I think it also happened at Salt Lake City last fall).

I love her skating. I hope she still gets a jgp as the jr bronze medalist. (We're not sure if Canada will use all their spots, but I'm sure others know Canada's assignment history more than I do).

I remember watching her practice at Houston Fall invitational. She sometimes got tilted in the air in her jumps which threw her off.

But her sp is becoming consistent! I'm excited.

Last year Canada gave away one JGP spot in ladies at the very first event of the season, but used the rest. I have no idea what will happen this year.

Wouldn't S. Korea get any unused Canadian spots anyway?
