So do I. If there is a country that needs three spots in ladies it is Russia! Saying that, the next season there is only Radionova that is becoming fully eligible for seniors, the rest is the same as this season.

    Press-conference:

Julia says she had a week off after the Olympics, but she didn't rest due to many official and media events, etc. When asked about her shape going into the World championships, says there's still three days left, but she's in good shape already. Says she definitely feels the newly added pressure of expectations, but she has her own goals for the upcoming championships, which is to skate clean.

    Q. who she trains with - Anna Pogorilaya, Evgenia Medvedeva, Sergei Voronov, Adian Pitkeev, Moris Kvitelashvili, many others.

    Q. about preparation for the Olympics - as usual, as for any other competition.

    Q. about vacations - she says that most likely she will have vacation time in June. She would like to visit many countries, very happy for the World championships in Japan because she loves Japan, loves skating there, and she has been told it's sakura bloom time, so she's looking forward to seeing it.

    Q. about fighting the nerves before the competition, how she deals with it. Julia says the best way of fighting the nerves is being physically prepared and well trained, but it happens sometimes that you are not 100% ready, then there are certain tricks in dealing with it.

    Q. about the apartment, that Julia said in one interview that she and her mom don't have their own home and have to rent, has the situation changed somehow - Julia says that yes, they got a phone call and are getting some help with that.

    Q. to the director of the school, Renat Laishev - about the help Julia's getting from the school. Julia says special thanks for meeting them at the airport when they returned from Sochi, and for escorting them home (sounds like there were some crazy fans and media in the airport).

    Q. about media attention, how she finds the time with all the training. She says that yes, there is much more attention, they decline many offers but there is still a lot, and they cannot follow their previous routine in dealing with media, which Julia describes as "prepare - skate - talk a little - prepare - skate". When asked about what has changed when she came back to the rink after the Olympics, says that everything is as usual, only now literally everyone, even the passers by, recognize her. Laishev says that after Julia's success there is a pilgrimage of parents with 4-5 year old kids to the rink, and they have trouble with accommodating them (with ice time?)

    Q. - Julia's advice to the kids who want to follow in her footsteps - she says kids can hardly manage alone, they need help from their parents and the coach, her advice to kids is to not give up, and try again and again.

    Q. about restrictions, what she has to give up for skating. Julia says "everything", that it was hard and what kept her going was that she was constantly reminded that after the Olympics she would finally be able to let go. She says that her only desire is to break her training regimen after the Worlds at last, go on vacation, and that she doesn't plan anything beyond that.

    Q. about idols in figure skating and favorite literature hero. Julia says that she cannot say any literature hero is her favorite, and as for figure skating, her ideal for many years has been Carolina Kostner. Julia says that her mother wants her to be like Carolina when she grows up, that she herself would like to have the same joy of skating Carolina has, because this season, Carolina has been emanating pure magic.

    Q. about Adelina skipping the Wolrds. Julia says it's her right to choose between doing shows and competing.

    Q. about her plans for the future and the letter from Spielberg. Julia says that for now sport is her life, as for the letter, she says that she got it delivered the day after she complained at the press-conference that she still didn't get it.

    Q. what she would do if she had a day off, Julia says: "sleep".

I saw that too - what a shocker if true! TBH though I'm actually more upset at the implication that Sinitsina/Zhiganshin have split than the actual I/K split (really loved them in the beginning but that love has faded over the years). I'm curious how/whether this news will affect ice dance results at Worlds (praying for P/B to take it).

I feel like every season there's a new rumor that I&K are splitting. I'm not too worried.

I didn't hear about S&Z. That's interesting. I feel like there does need to be a shakeup among the lower ranks. All of these teams like R&T, M&K, and S&B are going nowhere fast. The problem is the guys seem to be better than the girls (Tkachenko and Bukin in particular), so how will they re-partner them? Maybe they want to partner Ilinykh with Bukin (they had tried out years ago), but with I&K's recent success, it makes zero sense.

Dafuq?! It says I/K are going to split and that Nikita is going to skate with Viktoria Sinitsina. Morozov will be the coach.
    Could Elena be pregnant?
Otherwise I don't understand all of this.

If she is pregnant, she can come back after delivering the baby, like many others.

I hope this is just a rumor. Why split up an Olympic bronze medallist team with the potential for an OGM in 2018?

Perhaps she wants to care for the hypothetical baby, rather than continue on as an elite athlete?

I 1) doubt they are really splitting and 2) doubt it is for pregnancy if they are.

Let us not get carried away - :)

Back on topic- imagine if I&K actually win the gold at worlds in Japan, would they really want to split up? Anyone in his/her right mind would not, but you never know. I am hanging on to the hope they stay together.

Sorry to hear about Sinitsina-Zhiganshin splitting. I still think Stepanova-Bukin have potential.

I don't know--the report is appearing now in translation on Google News. So it's officially out there as a news story, so to speak. I don't know if the original Russian source is considered reputable?

This is old-ish news but someone brought it to my attention in the 2013 JGP Minsk thread in Kiss and Cry just the other day.

JGP in Minsk, Belarus (Sept. 25-28, 2013) Pairs final results: http://www.isuresults.com/results/jgpblr2013/CAT003RS.HTM

Results page says: "The junior pair Oksana Nagalati/Maxim Bobrov RUS has been disqualified from the competition according to the ISU Communication No. 1843" (January 8, 2014) - link is: http://static.isu.org/media/128995/1843-decision-of-isu-disciplinary-commission-ms-nagalati.pdf (an ISU Anti-Doping violation by her - Furosemide pill)

Original decision was published in December 2013: http://static.isu.org/media/128998/full-decision-of-dc-_-ms-nagalati.pdf

ETA Russian news article in English dated Jan. 10, 2014: http://en.ria.ru/sports/20140110/186373899/Russian-Skating-Champion-Nagalati-Banned-for-Doping.html
The Italian junior pair of Alessandra CERNUSCHI / Filippo AMBROSINI were elevated from 4th place to the bronze medal at the JGP in Slovakia: http://www.isuresults.com/results/jgpsvk2013/CAT003RS.HTM

ETA link to the new GSD thread that's been started about the Ilinykh and Katsalopov split rumor.

I/K seem to have quite tumultuous relationship. Their performance and training intensity seems to be all over the place, even though they were the clear favorites at the start of this past quad. Perhaps there is a maturity level missing with this team to overcome personal feelings for success?

If there is a split I highly doubt anyone of authority is recommending it as a good idea.

Is Nikita in love with Sinitsina? Similar things have happened to other pairs/ice dancers. The most famous split being Rodnina & Ulanov's because he wanted to skate with the lady he was in love with. Others were: Meno & Sand splitting with their pairs partners to skate with each other.

I just hope Elena will not be left without a partner. She is way too talented for that.

There are quite a few examples like that. Obertas broke up with Sokolov to skate with Slavnov, who she was dating at the time. She ended up marrying someone else I think (going OT again).

I think I must be the only one not devastated to see I/K split up. I really like Sinitsina and think she has even more potential - with a good coach [not sure that's Morozov though]. I liked S/Z as a team, but they have been having trouble with some of the lifts, which might hold them back. Not sure how much bigger Katsalopov is, but Im willing to give them a chance. My real hope was that S/Z would go to Sphilband, but I guess that's out.

If they were going to change partners, I would rather see Sin/Bukin - both of them are really talented. But Im kind of interested to see what they look like. Will Elena start skating with Ruslan?

OTOH - has this really happened or is this just a false rumor?

Sad for B&S having to withdraw from worlds.

Is there any further news about Plushy? How is his recovery progressing? Where is he now? The last I heard he was in Moscow. May be he is back in Saint Petersburg now?
