Me too. BTW, what did you think of their costumes? I didn't understand what they had to do with the program.

Wow! Good for Maxim. This must be what comes of being thrown out of Nikolai Morozov's training group!

Keiji Tanaka placed 2nd and 4th at his events, so he will qualify before Han Yan. So assuming Kovtun places 5th or higher in Germany, he and Hino will qualify which means the last spot will come down to Tanaka or Samarin. If Samarin is 2nd or higher, he will qualify and Tanaka will not, if he is 3rd, Tanaka will win the tiebreaker and be the final entrant.

So basically the only way Han Yan will qualify is if Kovtun is 7th or lower AND Samarin is 4th or lower in Germany next week (highly unlikely).

I enjoyed it. One thing I noticed though was that they seem to still be skating with a good amount of separation in between them.

It looks like its tied up with her hair. Although imagine it with her original SD costume! :)

With Kovtun having improved so much I'm really afraid he'll give Gachinski a run for his money this season.
I predict Maxim to make the Euro team this season.

That's a reasonable take. I was so surprised at him this week!

BTW, I like B/S's SD. They look much more polished and beautiful than last season, as expected from the moment they moved to Zhulin!

I hope Kovtun makes the Euros team: he was so fun to watch last year at JGPF.

Kavaguti and Smirnov's short program at the Fed Cup. I like it much better than at the test skates, her dress is a big improvement. They scored 67.34, the rest should be posted soon.

    The venue looks really nice.

I still wish they'd go back to their "Cats" SP or, at the very least, find some different waltz music. (Yuko's hair reminds me of the heroines' hairdos in those epic martial arts movies set in ancient China. And yes, I am a fan--of those movies and K&S!)

The music is atrocious, but they skated extremely well (other than the twist) and the choreo is pretty good. Quite a good outing for this early in the season.

    I think she looks cute.

How old is Kovtun? Who is his coach?

His jumps are not that good; they seem labored. He has time to improve though. Right now I don't think he can challenge Gachinski.

Bobrova and Soloviev win Finlandia, but they lost the free skate. They had the highest program components, but their tech marks were lower than those of Capellini and Lanotte.

    He's 17.

He is newly coached by Buianova with an assist from Tarasova.

Here is the greatest youtube I have watched this season...of Tarasova watching him at hi performance.

    Bobrova and Soloviev FD

They fixed her camel spin so now she does the donut position that I love. Her layback is great as well.
Not sure why they only got level 2 on the twizzles - they looked fine to me
As for why their Curve Lift only got level 2, there was an issue with Bobrova getting into her position, and they didn't hold the position long enough.

This is marvellous! Thank you for reposting the link! I hope TAT is always having a defibrillator with her, because at times she looks like she might get a heart attack! Now that’s what I call commitment to a job! :)

Yeah for Menshov! I saw him at Nebelhorn Trophy and he already seems to be in pretty good shape. (He did a quad during the final of the Gala!). Ivan Bariev also must have skated pretty well - he is not that much behind Gachinski. Also good to see Kovtun performing so well in the JGP, very impressing skate! Looks like the Russian men are finally on the rise again! :cheer:

Any video links to the Russia Fed Cup? In particular Men & Ladies? And Protocols?

DaiKozOda already posted the scores above (and mention Bermaternykh got injured, I hope he's ok) here's the more detailed scores for all the skaters. I don't know if the protocols will be published, they usually make it online somehow.

I'm hope more of the skaters will make it onto youtube, I'm sure they all were recorded I guess we'll have to hope.

Looks like from the pics Artur took a fall. Early days yet. Looking forward to the GP. Do Menshov and Voronov have GPs?

Also, Artur's shirt appears to be totally see-through.

Menshov has Skate America and Cup of Russia. I really like him. He is voidy, his jumps are huge and he is an older guy who keeps working like a dog and keeps getting better.
    Not sure about Voronov's GP.

Someone needs to work with Lipnitskaya on her clear lack of flow. She still isn't holding her moves and is now finishing every jump and spin with a little hop because she had no momentum left. It's extremely distracting.

She also needs to know that if she holds her I spin for more than 8 revs in her combination spin, the same feature cannot be counted again for her closing layback spin.
