Why did so many other coaches have students debut with level 3 step sequences? I hope it is not a mistake and was planned for level 2 the whole time.

I sure hope so. I really hope that Bobrova and Soloviev, having better skating ability IMO than Monko and Khaliavin and Zlobina and Sitnikov, will have cleaner edges in their footwork and get their levels. I have no expectations for them to reach the Grand Prix final but I think that, if they can beat Ilinykh and Katsalapov at Russian Nats and Euros, they'll be primed for a top 5 worlds showing which will serve them well for the Olympic season and beyond.

Once videos come up, we'll see what they aimed for.

It's possible though that they obtain their deep edges because they lean so far onto the blade, and that correcting posture, which Zhulin is doing, might take away that advantage in terms of edges.

Well, is there anyone who wants to take a crack at what the judges would have given them for http://youtu.be/0hStLXS3GyA?t=2m20s
Because I don't have the eye for calling levels. I think that they are going for a level 4 because they have all the bullets potentially

They have at least one double twizzle along with four other difficult turns, they have a one foot section with 4 difficult one foot turns, their sequence looks to be more than 75% difficult turns and I don't see why they wouldn't be trying to get every turn with a good edge and clean. I think that it's the last one that really messes people up, but I don't see a reason for any top team to get a level 2 when going for a level 4 because that would mean that the coach gave them a bad set of steps to do and didn't read the rules.

Anyway, I didn't notice any distinct shallowing of edges since they moved to Zhulin.

but aren't most Russians ice dancers slow on Twizzles ?

with excpetion to Ilinkyh/Katsalapov though their twizzles look unzynchronized and chaotic. Only Stepanova/Bukin I can really say they can wow with their spins and their super fast twizzles

Maybe compared to Davis and White, none of the Russians have fast twizzles, but I'd say that in terms of rotational speed, Bobrova and Soloviev are probably around the same speed as Tessa and Scott. And with Kustarova, they were even faster but were never in sync. Even Davis and White have small synchro issues with their lightning speed twizzles.
Anyway, Elena and Nikita have above average speed twizzles (in comparison with the top tier of ice dancers) but they suffer from unison issues as well.

Monko and Khaliavin's SD from Nebelhorn

Confused as to why they only got level 2. I know she had the twizzle issue, but I still counted enough difficult turns on one foot as well as total difficult steps. Maybe their edges were so bad that they didn't get credited with getting certain steps?

A thought that I had was that maybe the judges didn't think there was more than 75% difficult steps so they took off a level?

I think Ksenia had a couple of edge issues after her mistake but maybe I was concentrating too much on her edges?

They looked a bit tense to me,but it's understandable. It's ages since they've competed...

Btw,B/S got level 2 at Russian cup for their non touch sequence.I'm sure they'll fix whatever is missing. That's why it is good to check your levels early in the season

Uh Oh... if Bobrova and Soloviev don't get a level 3 in Finlandia, I'll be worried. Because they'll want to get all level 3 on steps at the very least to stay competitive with Weaver and Poje at Skate America.
Anyway, where did you get the Russian Cup protocols?

    Thanks
Looking at those protocols, I'm happy that they got level 3 and 4 on their YP - although I'll buy it if they get those levels at Finlandia or a GP event. Already much better levels than they got at worlds where they had level 2 and 3 on the Rhumba and level 2 on steps and level 3 on twizzles

I like Samarin too, he is so cute and has good skating skill. I agree with you that he needs a 3A and improves other jumps

I love VT's LP, but they look exhausted at the end.
Can't Russian girls wear black dress?! Bring them light color!!!
Congratulations to Samarin! If he went Turkey, his scors would qualify him a silver medalist.

V/T will get stronger as the season progresses no doubt.
Adelina's performances from the Mao shows are on Youtube. Maturing as a performer, artist and young lady beautifully.

Monko and Khaliavin got fourth in Nebelhorn (Zhulin's other team, Zlobina and Sitnikov got 2nd)

Z and S had the highest base tech mark of 38.70 meaning that I'm expecting Bobrova and Soloviev to break 40 on their base tech mark at Finlandia (meaning all level 4 except for two level 3 steps). (I know I talk about them a lot and stalk Zhulin's other teams to get an idea of what he might get for them, but they're one of my favorite teams and I really want them to have a shot at medalling in Sochi.)

too bad his next competition is next week in Croatia :wall:
where Samarin will compete again this time with Chen, Han Yan and Kovtun
I don't think he'll medal in his next event, he got gifted also with Han Yan's meltdown

would have been wise if they will shuffle him to JGP Germany where there is little competition other than Shoma and Kovtun

Who choreographed Polina Shelepen's SP and FS?

    SP music is awful.
And what is the concept of FS?
The music begins with "Gone with the Wind" but it goes different way.

    Please! She deserves more.

It seems that Han Yan had injured in his waist, so his did some mistakes in FS. They are not sure whether he withdraw JGP Croatia or he would recover soon. If Samarin can go to Germany, at least he can beat Shoma.

poor Han Yan :wuzrobbed , I hope for fast recovery, maybe a shuffule for him to compete in Germany instead ?

Alexander can can even win Gold if he competes in Germany, Kovtun has a habit of falling on his ass on big competitions remember WTT :yikes: , though I dont think they will shuffle him as they clearly favor Kovtun over Samarin to reach the GPF, Alexander is still pretty much a little boy

btw Samarin has same coach as Radionova !

It's impossibe for Han Yan to go to Germany, because there is no chinese skakers attend JGP Germany and Yan will not be substitute.
I hope Russia realize Samarin will have a chance to reach JGPF in his first-year's international competition, maybe he can go with Maxim, the more skaters will be in Sochi GPF, the happier russian will be;)

No. There’s no evidence of Yan Han being injured. Yan Han already denied this and told us he was not injured and just had a bad day. Some fans suspect maybe he was suffering from a waist pain but we don’t know if that’s the cause of his meltdown. And if he is still suffering from the waist pain it will not recover soon because that’s one of those chronic pain problems that many skaters suffer for many years.

well thats good hopefully Yan gets better results in Croatia

I checked the isu JGP Germany mens entry list ans Samarin is still listed
I cant believe they didnt shuffle him and pitted Samarin against Kovtun :(
the Rus Fed are clearly favoring Kovtun to reach GPF, because if the boy was sent to JGP Germany he could outskate Kovtun for the Gold medal :soapbox:

Actually, I quite like the SP. It needs to be more polished, because it is new. At the Russian test skates a few weeks ago she was doing a completely different short program, but then she changed it.

I don't know if this has been asked or answered yet but why did Vera Bazarova and Yuri Larionov WD after the short program at Nebelhorn? Did one of them suffer an injury?

Bazarova has a hip injury that may require surgery, so they WD.

Thank you. I thought her SP was "Autumn Leaves" and was surprised that the music choice and taste are quite different from what I had imagined. If she dumped the previous one following the result of the test skate, it must be a well thought-out decision.

I hope this new SP develop and will show a different side of her.
I really wanna see her smile at K&C.:cheer:

If it is, I'm really going to miss their stunning triple twist lift - the best in the world as well as her amazing posture especially in their lifts.

c'mon people, nobody said it will be career ending,
we dont even fully know their current status, I may not be a fan of B/L
but I would never wish someone retiring or speaking of retirement due to injuries

lets hope for fast recovery and maybe they can still compete in the GP or hopefully Euros/Worlds
