There is a rumor that Frank will be coaching Denis Ten.
Please, please, please be true.
I wonder if he would move to the US then. I mean he has already moved to Moscow from Kazakhstan so him moving is not unthinkable but Kazakhstan to Russia is much different than moving to the US.
Mirai just posted a Twitter message confirming this. Neat!
WOW! That'd be exciting!
BTW, Happy 17th birthday to Mirai!!
Does that mean that Evan is turning pro?
Very exciting. He's got amazing potential. I don't see him as near-term competition for Evan, so I don't think that really comes into it. And, for that matter, at least for a while FC had both Mirai and Carolina, who were substantially direct competitors.
Or possibly that Ten isn't seen as direct competition with Evan.
Carroll had Nagasu and Kostner at the same time- didn't he?
Yay! This makes me happy. Dennis has "it", all he really needs is more confidence and consistency, which Frank seems great at producing in his skaters. Also nice for Mirai to have someone her same age to train with. Happy birthday to Mirai btw! I can't believe she's 17, it seems like just yesterday when she won Junior Nationals as an itty bitty 13 year old!
Why would there be any connection between Frank taking Denis Ten on and what Evan plans to do?
That is great news! I think he could really benefit from it.
Woo. Can only be a good thing, surely. No way would Frank give a student of his a hot mess of an LP like the one Denis got this season just gone.
If true, that would be amazing !
Yay! That's nice!
And happy 17th birthday, Mirai!
I hope it's true.
Great opportunity for Denis! I was already preparing myself for an announcement that he would be training under Morozov.
Cool! Good luck to both. Denis could not ask for a better coach.
I'm excited for him, who will be the choreographer? Who did he use this year, or Lori?
Ten used Tarasova this year, if I remember correctly.
I love this kid. Hopefully Frank will be able to corral his Plushenko-like talents into a different stylistic path than Plushenko's.
Is Carolina still being coached by Frank?
I think she has been working with Fassi recently, but as far as I know she's still in LA.
no, Carolina is coached by an Italian now and moved back to Italy.
She has been coached by Christa Fassi for a while now.
Spent some time before worlds in Italy working with Eduardo de Bernadis.
Not sure what she plans to do now.
I´m very glad about the news! Now Denis will have great programmes and his stamina will get better. I hope he is prepared to work very hard with the next Olympics as the ultimate goal.
I'm excited too. I know Mirai and Evan are very close but I think having a training partner her own age will be very good for both skaters, they will be on the wavelength and can push each other. I know they are different genders but still, Dennis seems like a fun kid so I'm sure he and Mirai will become friends.
Frank needs to start shopping for a Kazakhstan national jacket.
Evan probably doesn't need coaching to the extent that he once did.
It's not like it's impossible to coach a few people at a time.
Does Denis speak English? I agree Ziggy. I was just improving the odds for those who don't seem to think that a coach can do that.
Well, it depends on whether Evan will continue with eligible skating.
I think the issue is more that the top skaters often have "non-compete" clauses in their coaches contracts, then it is that a coach can't handle more than one student.
I don't think Evan and Denis are even at the same level, in any case.
But by Sochi they could be. I will say I had a feeling a North American coach was going to take him under his/her wing.
Yes, Ten speaks very good English
I don't think Mr. Carroll is a good choice for lil' Denis ... he should stay where he belongs... as for Denis and Lysacek not being on the ... "same level" ..., that's true, Denis is already FAR ABOVE that certain Olympic disaster ...
That's exactly what have been said about Nagasu and Kostner last year.
That Nagasu simply wasn't in the same league as Kostner, and so there was no conflict to begin with.
And look how it turned out.
Here is what I said last year, which I still think: if two people are entering the same competitions, and they are both talented enough so that some specific goals are possible, then anything can happen and any coach who would want to teach both would have a conflict.
And, generally speaking, I tend not to trust conflicts.
I think Ten and Lysacek are conflict.
Ziggy, really, at this level it's not just fun and sparetime anymore. It's a job, a career, a lifetime accomplishment. Coaches can teach many students at the same time for any other purpouse. But at this level, two kids (same gender) are conflict. And conflicts are tricky.
mmh, honestly... I think Evan will retire quite soon. So there will be not conflict at all.
I still love Evan even if his triple axel looks like a triple salchow . Anyways I think Carrol is a good fit for Ten, who seems like a serious and hardworking skater. Maybe in 2014 Carrol will be the coach of TWO Olympic Gold Medalists (Mirai and Dennis - how cute ). Plus I think it's good for Ten to get away from Russia - otherwise he'll end up a mini-Plush and I'd rather him become a more exciting skater than that.
I was almost positive he'd go to Morozov though....I wonder now that Morozov will be in Russia who his new targets will be - baby Russian girls? Hope not. I would cry if he became the coach of Polina Agafonova or Anna Ovcharova and destroyed their adorable, spunky personalities and left them with boring programs full of flailing arms and busy Russian costumes
I think this would a good move for Denis Ten!
I love this pairing!!!!
