This summer, a dozen elite skaters entered their most testing competition yet, trying to outwit, outplay, and outlast each other in the hearts and minds of FSU. Ten have been voted out so far, including, most recently, Stéphane Lambiel, leaving us with Alexei Yagudin, who has dominated all the challenges so far, and outsider Daisuke Takahashi.

Two skaters remain. Who should win?

The original contestants were the last twelve men to win a World or Olympic title. The eliminaees are:

    Stéphane Lambiel (3rd)
    Evgeni Plushenko (4th)
    Ilia Kulik (5th)
    Patrick Chan (6th)
    Brian Joubert (7th)
    Jeffrey Buttle (8th)
    Elvis Stojko (9th)
    Evan Lysacek (10th)
    Todd Eldredge (11th)
    Alexei Urmanov (12th)

The object here is to vote for the winner, using whatever criteria you want.

People who post things like these ...

... will be put in the stocks, given remedial reading comprehension lessons and forced to watch a loop of selected Free Skate programs by Wolfgang Schwarz, Ondrej Nepela, Elvis Stojko, and Evan Lysacek. Since voting is anonymous, there will not be any re-tallying of votes based on claims of having voted for the wrong person. :p

    The two remaining skaters are:

    • Alexei Yagudin: Worlds 1998, 1999, 2000, 2002, Olys 2002, Worlds Silver 2001, Worlds Bronze 1997
    • Daisuke Takahashi: Worlds 2010, Worlds Silver 2007, 2012, Olys Bronze 2010

    Pick the winner!!!!!

Voted for Yagudin, even though I love Takahashi. Yagudin deserves it based on his skating and his competitive record!

Yags never got the chance to compete against Takahashi, but of course he should win in this game. Takahashi is fantastic but he could have achieved more in his career considering his level of talent.

While I do think Yagudin should win it all, he's sooo overated around here that I just voted for Takahashi, and honestly I prefer him much more in a pure entertaintment value.

Same could be said about Takahashi (please don't :lynch: me FSU) while he is a great skater, and I am a fan, I'm surprised that he beat out Plushy and Lambiel.

I voted for Dai. Yags has the better skating record but I prefer Dai's skating style.

Dai could sweep the next two seasons- which seems unlikely in the extreme - and he still won't have a record as good as Yagudin's, despite having quite a few more season to compete in. He had one season when he was considered the man to beat, and it ended with him Zayaking himself off the World podium.

I like Dai, he's a great skater, loved his Worlds winning performances and his programs this past season. But Yags is in a league of his own here. And while his skating isn't IJS friendly (why should it be?), he was an amazing 6.0 skater.

Yes, and those were diff'rent times! ;)

It's been pointed out ad nauseam that record is not the criteria here, so I'm going with personal taste and artistic abilities. Also Daisuke moves me to tears while Yags leaves me cold as a stone. Go figure!

:shuffle: I really don't think shine was pulling for Plushenko to be in the final 2 though. Like me, I'm sure shine wanted our dear Lamby in the final. ;)

104 years after first winning the OGM in Special Figures in London, Nikolai Panin is still the reigning champion in his discipline. Even the Henies, Grafströms, and Rodninas of this world can't say that.

If he goes totally bionic at some point, :plush: might have a ghost of a chance of meeting that standard, but I rather doubt it.

Actually, what most people have said is that a skater's record doesn't necessarily have to be the key criterion, not that it's absolutely not the criterion. I think Yagudin's very impressive record reflects his talent and abilities, while Takahashi's not-as-impressive-as-it-could-be record does not reflect what he can do as a skater. So I give the edge to the guy who was a great skater and competitor, and whose results are commensurate with his potential. If others prefer to vote for Dai because they enjoy his skating that much, and are willing to overlook his inconsistency over the years, of course that's a legitimate view. Just not my view.

Exactly, it's a matter of one's view, and I wouldn't want to impose mine on you!

It's just an off-season poll, albeit a very entertaining one!

Argh. I didn't want Yagudin to win this so easily, but worthy competitors would have been Plush and Chan. Against, Takahashi, I have to vote for him.
