ATF negotiator is ready to go in
I prefer WCVB.com. They have 3 reporters on the ground and tend to be cautious about jumping to conclusions.
I don't recall the falsely IDed gut at the Olympics throwing bombs at the police during a chase. I think it is fairly clear these are the right guys, and I'm sure the FBI will do further investigation to make sure no one else was involved.
The police scanner linked to, above, is helpful.
The live stream on boston.com is helpful:
The Yahoo live stream has been of mixed usefulness, but more useful than places like CNN:
A police negotiator has been called in. Police are reporting arms moving.
Boat owner went outside to get fresh air. Noticed something a bit off. Got ladder to check it out. Unzipped cover, noticed blood, noticed what he thought was a body. Took off and called the police.
British reporter on al jazeera this morning was saying he was likely waiting until dark to make ant moves. The man in the US had to remind her for us that was 10 hours away. Interesting they didn't find him until night.
There's movement. His arm is moving.
Again, playing devil's advocate:
What if they said it just to scare him so he would give up the car?
I do want to believe they are the real killers, but do we have indisputable proof that they did it? The video shows them walking and looking calm while others are running/in anquish, etc. That alone would convince me that they did it, but it is not like an eyewitness to the actual crime.
I really believe they capture him alive. We need to know the truth- from him.
It sounds like they did not plan this very well. They did not have an escape plan. They had a couple of days before they were found on the video.
The police are moving in formation toward the boat.
I believe that Vash's question was more to the what kind of proof could be given to the family since they do not believe it? Which if the family does not believe it, I don't know that any amount of proof will convince them.
But then only Vash can say what her question was
The police have said they will not discuss the evidence they have. We know we don't have all the info now.
My guess is that the FBI and police had additional evidence prior to releasing photographs. They would hold that evidence so as not to show their hand, particularly prior to the release of photos. And they have likely found more evidence today in the search of their residence, etc...
I really do not believe the FBI will just pat themselves on the back and call it done. They are going to make sure they are the right guys and no one else is involved.
Whoever this guy is, HE is clearly extremely dangerous and needs to be captured or killed. They of course don't kill on purpose, but it happens.
There was an eyewitness to the crime. See up thread. A victim saw at least one if the brothers drop the backpack - and then the backpack blew up and took two of his legs off. That guy gave the description to police - that is how they id'd them on tape.
On the police scanner:
"We also have an issue with your link, it's being broadcast on the internet."
I was wondering if they'd call for radio silence or something...
Good point snoopy. I forgot that guy pretty much woke up and IDed him.
They're cutting off the scanner feed, they found out the Interwebz is listening
Good for them. If the world can hear, so can the bomber possibly.
Ok, the scanner is still online
I was going to point this out. I find it strange to make that kind of 'devils' advocate' since I assumed she had followed the whole incident.
They have recovered bomb materials and pipe bombs fm a residence they occupied. Plus pipe bombs and a grenade was thrown at police during the car chase. Suspect #2, or someone believed to be him, made several incriminating tweets.
That yahoo live feed
"Hope he has insurance for that boat"
"Neighbor says,"that boat was his baby""
LOL if he's in a small boat surrounded by about two hundred law enforcement officers, dogs, helicopters, and TV cameras trying to sneak in, I suspect he knows they're there if he's still alive.
"Watch your mike."
They might not shut down the (public) scanner, but they are gonna make sure no one says anything controversial....
Police obviously seeing the suspect. Being cautioned not to say anything on their mikes, as they know they're being listened to over the internet.
But it isn't good for police if he knows how they will approach.
Do you think he has a computer in the boat and is following social media???? Even a charged cell phone? Seriously? The boat is about 5 blocks from where he left the car. He's probably been there all this time especially if he was hurt.
CNN is reporting the older brother was questioned, prior to all this, by the FBI at the request of a foreign government.
I don't trust CNN at the moment.
CBS and other news sources reported this at around 6pm.
The Globe is reporting that three people were taken into custody in New Bedford, MA, in relationship to this case.
