I thought this was the one US pair that would stay together until they both retired...

I don't see how Ladwig plans to continue his skating career. He'll be 32 next month, he has no partner and US pairs are starting to show some signs of life. I wish him well, but I'll be surprised if he is truly able to go on in competitive skating.

Well, I could have thought of one partner, but...

You do know that they were together for ten years, don't you?

Amanda has decided that this phase of her life is done, and I wish her the best, and Mark success in continuing on in pairs. I don't think any of the US teams is going to match the quality of their lifts for quite some time.

I don't really lump Amanda and Mark in the same category as the rest of the 2 or 3 year US/Canada partnerships- They have been together longer than most marriages! It just seems Amanda wants to move on with her life.

Ten years isn't enough for you? I guess Evora shouldn't retire as long as people want to see them together.

Um, Evora and Ladwig have been a pair for 10 years - which I think is probably the longest of any senior pair in the US at the moment. Maybe you should look at the actual information before spouting off.

It's interesting that she's retiring but he's continuing. And right after Yankowskas got a partner.

It's so nice when anyone, in this case a skater, handles something with such graciousness. Her appreciation to her partner, coaches and everyone was beautifully expressed.

I wish them both the very best; whatever the future holds.
If Mark wants to continue competing, more power to him.

Aww, I wish they had been able to retire with a National title, but they had a wonderful career, and will always be Olympians. Everything to be proud of and nothing to be ashamed of. Kudos to them!

Thanks, Mark and Amanda, for showing how high a U.S. skater and team can reach/dream/achieve with talent, dedication and persistence! :respec:

OMG! I really wasn't expecting this. I wouldn't have been totally shocked if they had both decided to retire, but wasn't expecting them to split and Mark to look to skate with another partner. It sounds like they both have great attitudes though, as always comes across in their interviews. :)

Woah! As other said, a retirement would not have been surprising, but a split is. Very classy announcement.

A talented American pair skater is so hard to find. His phone is going to ring like crazy. It does not matter how old he is. He is in great shape for his age.

I am shocked to hear the news "split". If it was just retire, I would not be surprised at all...

Good luck to Amanda in the next phase of her life, and good luck to Mark in a new partnership. But wow- that's going to be weird...
