According to Aunt Joyce Evan was injured:
This is really bad news. I wish him the speedy recovery.
Poor guy. I hope everything turns out fine. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Get well soon, Evan! Hope there is nothing really bad.
Yikes! That must have been traumatic to have happen, for both of them! And traumatic to witness! Hopefully, as with athletes and medicine these days, he can recover and skate without a problem.
Oh dear - this sounds pretty serious.
I hope he's able to recover quickly. I love S&B and was so looking forward to seeing their new programs this season.
Oh, no! That's horrible. I hope he has a speedy recovery.
That is absolutely awful.
May he have a speedy recovery.
Hope he will be OK soon.
I cant waite to see there competition with D-W at Nationals, but with this injury......
Oh no. Hope the surgery/rehab are successful.
So do I! A complete and speedy recovery to Evan!
Sliced it through the boot?
Poor Evan and Emily. I hope he has a speedy recovery...
OW OW OW. Poor guy. I hope his recovery is complete and quick. What rotten luck.
that is very sad news
hopefully he can recover quickly and it isn't very serious. It is easy to forget that this can be quite a dangerous sport.
Dance boots are cut low in the back to allow for better toe point. Most likely she nailed him just above the boot. Ouch (shudder). Best wishes to Evan for a speedy and complete recovery. Is this not the second time theyve had a cut injury? I seem to remember something about them withdrawing from a competition because Emily had been cut.
This sounds so serious. Get well, Evan. We'll miss your smiling face until you're back on the ice again.
He skated over her fingers.
I hope this isn't extrememly serious and he can get back on the ice soon after his recovery and physical therapy. (((Evan & Emily)))
Exactly how I would have said it.
I don't want to be alarmist, but achilles tendon injuries are not a simple recovery. For a singles skater (Bonaly, Derochie) that can effectively end your career as much of your jumping goes away. For pairs/dancers, better chance to return to competition but I believe mobility can be affected.
I love love love this couple and wish them a full recovery. Don't care how long it takes....let it heal....even if it means to forget this season.
Darn. This sounds bad. I hope he gets well soon.
My feelings exactly.
I wish him a complete recovery.
I really hope that Evan can recover fully from this. I was really interested in seeing how S/B had progressed this season.
Ouch, that sounds horrible! Poor guy.
Best wishes to a full recovery.
So sad to hear this.
I hope he recovers quickly. I was so looking forward to their programs this season.
This makes me feel really queasy. I'd be surprised to see them back this season with achilles surgery -- the rehab is a ****. So sad.
I know, upon reading that it was a sliced achilles, my first thought was that they'll be out for the season.
Oh my God. This is devastating news.
Plus, if you have a surgery on the achilles tendon the recovery itself is very painful...I'm so sorry for him
I hope the surgery will find out the damage was not very serious
What a nightmare Poor guy...I hope he has a full recovery. I bet this season is just shot
I hope the cut is not so serious.
I hope so, too. If it does turn out to be serious, it can be a long recovery process. I'm coming up on the 1-year 'anniversary' of breaking my leg (doing a simple 3-turn) and it has been a long road back. The good news for Evan is that he's young and in great shape and will likely heal very well. Sending my best wishes to Evan for a speedy and full recovery!
So sad! I was so looking forward to seeing their new freedance.
If true, then (((Evan)))
But has this been confirmed by anyone else - like Detroit skaters' Twitter feeds/Facebook pages, or other reliable Detroit sources on this board? Selfishly holding out hope that this might not be true given that the originally quoted "source" (Aunt Joyce) has zero credibility in my book.
It's on IDC's Twitter.
It's true, unfortunately, even though there hasn't been an official confirmation, announcement or press release yet. Perhaps there will be something after Evan Bates' surgery when a more definitive prognosis can be made? Best wishes to both Evan and Emily! Skating fans are thinking of you and sending positive vibes.

And (((Evan and Emily)))
Scary stuff. I hope the rehab goes well, could be a long road.
I agree that sounds likely - and lucky to come back at all. This type of injury is sometimes career-ending. But I hope the best for him.
