A donut is a donut if it has a hole, filled donuts should be called something else, well, according to me. :p

I don't care for filled "donuts" of any kind.

Like Dunkin Donuts better than Krispy Kreme's.

    Favorites:
    Butter Crunch
    Glazed
    Maple Glazed
Sour Cream cake (Yumm all those crunchy edges)
    French

I sent my husband out for donuts this morning. I blame this thread.

I like Tim Horton's. And Dunkin Donuts. And Entemann's (sp?) And the local grocery store here makes great ones. Ah hell, I like donuts. I don't eat them often though. If they somehow became a health food, I could absolutely live on an all donut diet.

I was in New York in May travelling with a friend who also is not a Timmys fan. When we saw one Tims, then another, then another, there was much rolling of the eyes. Then we laughed -- "hey, the US has exported enough of their crap junk food to Canada, now it's payback." :D

I agree with Artemis. There is not one thing from Tim Hortons that isn't vile. How it got so popular I will never understand.

Oh, guys. You have me craving Dunkin Donuts gingerbread donuts. Unfortunately, they only sell them in the holiday months. Thank goodness the folks at DD think Halloween is a holiday. Let's see, with a minimum 4 week wait, I wonder how strong the craving will be by then?

If I'm in a strange town without a lot of restaurants, I'm quite happy to go to Timmie's for a sandwich or soup. I don't drink coffee, but the one in Belleville and one near Guelph serve hot apple cidar in the winter and that's very good.

Uh huh (pardon me, my mouth is full of a Krispy Kreme chocolate-covered custard-filled). :swoon:

There is a Krispy Kreme "factory" store (well, where they actually make the donuts in front of you) in the West End of Richmond. The warm glazed are just orgasmic little bits of heaven that melt in your mouth. :D

I wish they shipped their doughnuts.
I've heard so much about them.

Krispy Creme Apple Cinnamon are my favourite one's ever.

But I also like Maple Dip donuts from Tim Horton's. I stop for a timmie's before I go into work and will sometimes buy a donut. It isn't an every day thing. I also like their Pumpkin Spice donut that they have once in awhile.

Love glazed donuts or bear claws. I usually put some hersheys cararmel syrup on it and microwave for 20 secs.

I always use a fork since I hate sticky fingers though.

OMG. So jealous. The chocolate-covered custard is my favorite tied with the newly baked glazed warm off the belt. Nothing beats Krispy Kreme. :swoon:

I just thought of the Chesecake Factory Store below the Hancock Tower (anyone from Chicago who thinks weekly about moving in there?). And my fridge has no more chocolate bars in it. How frustrating.

My most favorite donuts are still the glazed ones, with maple and chocolate distant second and third. I never cared for the filled donuts.

With Krispy Kreme out, I need to start looking for a Dunkin donuts shop in my area.

If I am by a Krispy Kreme store and the "Hot Donuts Now" sign is on...I'm getting a hot, glazed donut. No question. I also like their chocolate glazed, but it doesn't come close to a hot donut now. :swoon:

I also like Dunkin Donuts. A woman in my group often brings a box filled with an assortment of donut holes to meetings. Yummy.

Edited to add: Don't ever fall for the fundraiser where they peddle boxes of KK donuts house to house. Gag. Old and disgusting. Even microwaving them to fake a hot donut now didn't make them edible.

At Macy's I had seen an electric donut maker (small size). Has anyone tried something like this at home?

I think it must be like the home-use cotton candy makers: way too dangerous (to the waistline) to risk at home. :)

Though an old (and now lost, sigh) Better Homes & Gardens cookbook from the 60s had a yummy recipe for a donut-like muffin that you baked in the oven and then brushed with melted butter and rolled in cinnamon sugar. Mmmmm...every bit as good as a fresh cinnamon donut, and better than most available in the store.

But that one's lost to the ages.

What I'm going to try next is King Arthur's Zwieback recipe, since the jerks at Nabisco had the temerity to stop making them. :blah:

Of course, I can never think about Krispy Kreme the same way without remembering that episode of Sex & the City and Miranda ...
