The ISU has announced that COP/IJS will be axed after the 2014 Olympics and replaced by the old 6.O system. They believe that COP is too complicated for all but the most ardent followers of the sport, and has alienated a large section of the old fanbase.

Another change that has also been announced is that the SP and LP in singles competitions will be replaced by a new technical program and a new artistic program. Taking a lead from the old World Professional Championships, the ISU believes that the artistic program will appeal to many of the lost fans who have deserted the sport, becoming disillusioned by the monotony of COP programs, and who are looking for greater entertainment value in terms of artistry, musicality, interpretation, and more creative choreography.

Yes, they couldn't change the system in time for 2014 Sochi, that was part of the meeting that Cinquanta was at instead of attending Worlds in London. The IOC is not happy, as a result the ISU is being warned that skating could be removed from the Olympics like wrestling unless they change.

    This is good, Maofan7 :respec:.

In all truth, I don't want the old system back, but some changes to COP would be good. SP as the technical program, and LP/FS as the truly "free"/more artistic program is a good idea.

Ya mean they're not gonna replace it with "Rock/Scissors/Paper"?

Why did you write 6.O as opposed to 6.0?

I knew it was April Fool before I opened the link. It's not April 1st here yet, but it's only a matter of a few hours before it will be. It will be interesting to see new ideas for Fool's day. :)

Axed? Isn't that a bit brutal? I mean, couldn't they just put on a raft and release it somewhere in the South Pacific or something??? ;)

    It's all about the "O" ;)

At least Maofan7 made the extra effort to write a reasonably believable news blurb instead of just posting a crazy title and saying April Fool's in the thread.

Based on recent events, I actually believed this (for about five seconds) and got all excited.

Then I realized it was an April fools' joke and got all sad...

    Good one, though! :)
