We went to the Skating Club of Wilmington show last night. It was a very entertaining show with a wide range of skaters & skills (very young to adult, Basic skills 1-8, freestyle, no test prelininary, pre juvenile/juvenile, intermediate-senior, elite, adult freestyle, Special Olympics, parent/child, synchro). The theme was "As the Ice Turns." There were four acts, one for each season, with an intermission after act 2. Musically it was a trip around the world, with a hot air balloon prop on the ice that was moved from continent to continent during each segment. Act 1 was "Winter" with music represented all the continents, Australia, & Asia. Act 2 was "Spring" with music representing Africa, & Europe. Act 3 was "Summer", with music representing Antarctica, North, & South America, and Act 4 was "Fall" with more music representing North America. There were some injured skaters who were unable to skate last night - Stephen Carriere and Alexander Zahradnicek (2011 US Junior men Silver medalist). Viktor Pfeifer (5 time Austrian Champion & 2 time Olympian) and Ryan Bradley were not there, probably because of training for Worlds. It was great to see Ashley Wagner and Armin Mahbanoozadeh :D skate twice in the show. Ashley skated to a song called "Gravity" (not "Defying Gravity" from Wicked) in Act 2, and "On the Floor" in Act 4. Armin skated to Michael Buble's version of "Foggy in London" (not sure if that's actually the title of the Frank Sinatra song, but that's how it's listed in the program - Isn't it actually called "A Foggy Day in London" or something like that?) in Act 2 & a version of "Summertime" (not sure who sang it) in Act 4. both were very "on" and well received. There were skaters whom we saw at 2011 US Nationals who
probably hadn't skated to their potential there, but were very enjoyable in this show, specifically Kelsey Traunero ("God Bless America" - Celine Dion's version, loved her Russian Split Jump in particular) and Marcus Mimidus ("I Go to Rio"). Another skater who really stood out for us was Tony Lu. He skated to the song "Land Down Under" in Act 1, and looked like Nathan Chen.In Act 2, Daniel Leeds skated to "Walk Like an Egyptian, and he had a lot of charm & personality on the ice. After the show, we stood by the boards, complimented the skaters on their performances, and had a nice opportunity to talk to several of them (a number of whom we saw at the Liberty Summer Competition last summer and at Eastern Sectionals). It was also very nice to chat with Tiffny Scott & Philip Duhlebohn.

Sylvia, thanks for the link to the on ice pics from the show.

Unfortunately Johnny's plane got stuck and he couldn't make it for the show but he did come straight from the airport to the rink to the meet and greet.

I got to meet Johnny again and talked to him briefly as there were tons of people on line to see him. I think it is great that after being stuck all day in an airport and then an airplane, Johnny came to meet his fans. Johnny did take the ice at the end of the show to apologize for not being able to skate and to thank everyone for supporting Skate to Learn programs.

Did anyone attend the Cleveland Skating Club's show this weekend?

Anyone attend this show last weekend who can share their impressions? I heard that Adam Rippon, Christina Gao and Andrea Poapst (used to represent the club in singles before she relocated to Colorado to start pairs) & Chris Kneirim all skated. Rippon skated his "Cinema Paradiso" number (reportedly landing 3A and other triples just fine on a small ice surface), Gao performed to "Don't Cry for me Argentina," and Poapst/Knierim showcased an impressive triple twist.

I was going to start a separate thread for the Detroit SC shows. :) They are taking place Thursday, June 9 through Sunday, June 12 (5 shows in all). There is a post-show reception after the Thursday evening show ($45 extra?) to benefit Japan.

From the Detroit Free Press article on Davis/White throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Tigers game on Tuesday:
I believe Meryl and Charlie will be performing in the Thursday and Friday evening shows, June 9 & 10, at the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills -- this may need to be confirmed.

Tickets went on sale on Monday, May 23 in the DSC main office and will remain on sale during regular business hours until June 8. Prices are $15 for bleacher seating and $25 for gold seats. Charity tables are $50 - $300. Tickets will be available for purchase during regular business hours or by phone at 248- 332-3000 x101. Show days, tickets are on sale at the door for any remaining seats that are still available.

ETA link to Detroit SC's press release about their show: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110526&content_id=19598020&vkey=ice_pressrelease

The annual ice show held at the Ice Den in Scottsdale, Arizona, will be Friday, June 10 & Saturday, June 11 -- show times: http://blog.coyotesice.com/2011/annual-ice-show-ice-den/
Headliners are Tiffany Vise/Don Baldwin and Douglas Razzano.

Detroit Skating Club's first of 5 shows kicks off Thursday evening, June 9 to benefit the Japan Red Cross Tsunami Relief (maybe we should have a new thread for fan reports, photos, etc. in GSD?).
