Wow, this is amazing! It says they will take 0.7*[highest international SP+LP score] + 0.3*[highest domestic SP+LP score], to decide whom to send. That means Han Yan might get to go instead of Nan Song, and maybe S/H instead of P/Z, if they do really well in their GP competitions! I was despairing for them, because Song and P/Z seem to have much stronger political backings. The international competitions that count are Nebelhorn, GP's and GPF, and Universiade.

From the article it seems JGPs are counted too (as well as Asian Games or Asian Cup or something), (I'm not always very good at telling the names of the comps based on what is said in Chinese.)

According to the article, this is gonna be open, fair and just.
There are five tiebreakers: (See if I can translate correctly)
If scores are the same, then the first tiebreaker goes to LP score of the skater's highest scoring international event. Then the next tiebreaker is the short program score. Then the next tiebreaker is the lp score of the skater's highest scoring national event; then the next tiebreaker is the sp score of the skater's highest scoring national event; then if there's still a tiebreaker they are going to draw for the spot  (

Awww.. adorable article. So their baby daughter 'Snow II'already developed musicality inside the womb, she is way ahead this one. Good to know she is going to be a September baby just like Asia's current leading ladies Yuna and Mao, ontop of who her parents is to the future legacy of Chinese figure skating, maybe just maybe in 16-20 years, China can have another great!?

I started a separate news and congratulations thread in GSD: Shen/Zhao are proud parents of a daughter!

Would someone like to translate/summarize any news or results from the current national "Grand Prix" competition? http://chnfs.org/
There are videos on youku.com of Han Yan, Zijun Li, Nan Song, Sui/Han, etc. if someone wants to link them here.

ETA tweets from Misha Ge who watched the Men's FS:

"While ago back from Chinese National Grand Prix of FS . Mens Podium : 1.Nan Song , 2. Bo YanJin [Boyang Jin], 3 Han Yan .

Han Yan skated with few mistakes(around 227),Great Skate for little JR Jumper-Talent Bo Yanjin with 4T ,4S,clean program 235 points 2nd.

I'm happy for Nan Song, tough skate but he pull off clean program today. He was on recovery these few month, great to see him back. 237p, 1st"

Kexin was almost stopping her skating in the second half of her FS. I feel so sorry that she looks injured badly. Do you have any information about her injury, jlai? Hoping her quick and full recovery! I LOVE her big jumps. I was so happy to see she won silver medal at Asian Open this summer! Hoping she'll do well in GPS, too.:cheer2:

The men's event is certainly exciting. Song Nan produced decent programs which actually made him look mature and elegant instead of boring. Jumps were confident.

But Jin Boyang was wonderful. Looks ready to rule Juniors. Is he eligible for Sochi? If Yan Han doesn't put his act together, this little kid can surpass him real quick even after Song Nan retires after this season.

I really liked Han Yan's SP step sequence but I think the whole program is quite enjoyable to watch. Good to see Han skating to better choreographies than in previous years.

Thanks for all the video links, rosewood.:)

The only thing I read was this
    http://tieba.baidu.com/p/2556732260?see_lz=1
    张可欣在上赛季离开赛场大半年再重新回归后虽然跳跃难度和稳定性都恢复得不错,但是跳跃存周问题开始严重起来,旋转步伐也屡次定级不理想
I am bad at translating tech details. I think it's saying she's recovering well but she has trouble with some jumps and twizzles?

Guan Jin Lin and Geng BinGwa still injured

ETA: more video links at http://www.youku.com/v_showlist/t2c98g2361.html

Found it. According to one of the articles, Zhang had a cramp in the second half of her program

Rough translation: Kexin Zhang returned after being away from competitions for most of last season. Although her jumps and consistency have largely recovered, an issue with underrotation in jumps has emerged, and her spins and step sequences got low levels.

赵子荃=Zhao Ziquan. She is on JGP last year and this year.

Thx, Jun Y. I was confused because it says "spin steps" but without a comma between the two, I took it to mean twizzle.
(Should not expect better punctuation from e-reporting :) )
Now I also know what 存周 and 定级 mean (rotation and levels)!

eta: I'll also edit my post to add the name translations (please check to see if I mix up Z and ZH and such) :)

All the surnames are correct! :) Except Zhang Hao's partner's last name is Peng, first name Cheng. 彭程。

IIRC, Li Xiangning is also on JGP this season.

    存=save, 周=revolutions/rotations. So 存周 = underrotation.

Thank you for your kindness, jlai. :):) A cramp sounds not to be a serious injury. Well it's a bad but still a good information about her!

BinGwa:wuzrobbed Hoping her full recovery. BTW I saw her photo on weibo recently. Glad to see her smiling with Kexin and a few other skaters at the rink in it. :cheer2:

Thanks a lot for the translation, Jun Y. Yeah, her jumps are big but she has the underrotation issue. But she's still recovering from her injury. Hoping she's not damaged badly in this competion and recovers fully before GPS.:cheer:

It's funny. 存=exist in Japanese. So Japanese speaking people would guess 存周 = rotated. Chinese characters came from China to Japan long ago and then many of them changed their meanings in each country to some extent. I sometimes visit Chinese news sites to see skating news but it's almost impossible to understand the content even with Google translator. So your translation is so helpful for me. Thanks again, Jun Y.:)

Peng/Zhang look really good! So surprised that Peng catches up so quickly. They should do really well this season if the judges pay attention to them. Like Zijun Li's programs too.

Wow. Fascinating to see SO MANY ice dance teams on the event results just posted. From the scores, obviously, so many of them are not up to par for competing at an international level though. In the past, several of the top teams have sought out help (choreographically, coaching) from top international coaches like Natalia Linunchuk (sp?). I wonder whether there will be an effort to push some of the younger teams out to coaching situations outside of China, where there is not history of success in the sport, in the lead up to the next Olympics, which will be in Asia.
