OMG, I'm so sorry for Kexin. I didn't know about it at all. I'm also sorry for what I said, true as it is it's inappropriate to say that given the circumstance. I salute Kexin's courage!

I knew her issues before. But I didn't know her issues were getting worse. So sorry for her. I occasionally visited weibo to see her microblog and I noticed there were more photos of her smiling face on it than before. So I thought she'd been recovering. All I can do is just pray for her...:(

So hoping Zijun can get through this difficult period and be back on track. I'll be absolutely crushed if not. :( But she has plenty of time and seasons ahead of her so fingers crossed.

Argh sounds like Yao Bin was not happy with Yan Han's performances at the GPF. He should keep in mind that Yan at least he made GPF and beat Song's SB by about 30 points.

The situation with ladies and pairs are clear now.

Good, my aesthetic feelings prefer P/Z. Although S/H were 'different' in trying the quad twist, now P/Z can do quad twist too, and P/Z have so much better presentation.

I love Peng and Zhang. He always was the more expressive of the Zhangs and she is wonderful for a 16 year old. I wonder if they can develop even more, I can see podium material for next year. Their sp music is really captivating too

I'm a Sui/Han fan, so am a bit disappointed to read that Peng & Zhang are ahead of them in terms of selection. :( But I can see how Zhang would get the nod when it comes to a close competiton due to his age & experience. Also, they made the GPF whereas Sui/Han did not. :(

I enjoy both pairs though, so am happy for Peng & Zhang too. :)

Your guess is as good as mine as to what the federation will do now as Boyang Jin wins nationals after having won Junior Grand Prix Final earlier in the month. As well, silver medallist Nan Song was just coming off a win at Winter Universiade.

Regardless of any Chinese mathmatical selection formulas, I would be completely dumbfounded if Boyang Jin is sent to the Olympics. It will likely be Han Yan with an outside chance by Nan Song. They may use Four Continents results to make the final decision between the two but HY's scoring potential is better than any of them. I think Boyang Jin will go to Jr. Worlds again and try to win a medal (gold). At the Olympics, he would look pretty obvious as a kid among men, and would be eaten up alive on PCS.

It seems that Yan has a habit of not skating well at Nationals, which is a shame, because when he is "on" he is clearly the best man China has to offer right now. He did have that win at CoC, however despite making the GPF he didn't do that great there, and now he is 4th not even 2nd or 3rd at Nationals. I would still send him if I were the Fed, but, I do feel like it's going to be tough to make a convincing case to send Yan over the other two in consideration because I feel the only real argument to back it up is "because he has the potential to do a lot better than either of you", which is kind of beat, even if it is true.

Boyang Jin is an amazing jumper, btw. In a couple years time I think he could be fabulous, and his Michael Jackson EX was hilarious, if he had more upbeat and less childish programs, I think his PCS would go up, but as it is now, his programs are juniorish, he is still a tiny boy, he has the tendency to make mistakes in the SP which would hurt him on the PCS side in senior international competition in the FS, I just feel like he's not soup yet and sending him to the Olympics might be pushing him to early. He is a rare talent that should be handled carefully. Plus it's going to be very hard for him to make the top 10, even landing 3 quads and a 3a combo in his FS, whereas Yan I think could very feasibly do it if he skated well and made sure he was at least doing 2 3a or 2 4t in his FS (doing 1 of each won't cut it), though I know that's a big if.

Exactly. IIRC Yan's international score from this season still beats Song by quite a mile.

Going by the formula stated a while back,
    Yan Han 234.22
    Song 219.263
    Jin 221.865

(If indeed this national score is their individual highest domestic score)

I wonder if Zijun Li (who did not compete at Nationals this weekend) will be given a chance to prove herself before the two Olympics ladies are named? Perhaps she will be named to the Four Cs and/or allowed to do a test skate in private? Right now, it appears that the two ladies at the Sochi Olympics will be Kexin Zhang and Ziquan Zhao who finished 1 & 2 at Nationals, respectively.

According to the Selection rule, 4CC is not counted as an eligible international event (perhaps because it's very close to the Olympics). So per the selection criteria, Han Yan gets to go the Olympics, unless there are shady politics going on behind the scenes.

Han changed his skating boots after GPF and he just startd landing the difficult jumps such as 3As 5 days before this competition. He said he still could not excute 4T because of the new boots and that's why he practice 4s as a "backup". Unfortunately a hard fell while excuting 4S during he 6 minutes warm up before his short programme led to a dislocated arm (again!)He struggled through his two programmes with the shoulder injury.

I haven't seen the skating yet but I believe these PCS scores tell the story right there. It appears like the second pairs team spot has been decided before the event started.

Even at NHK when S&H bombed pretty badly, they still only lost out to a near clean P&Z on PCS by less than a point. And here S&H actually won on TES and had no deductions so I am not sure how bad they must have skated to deserve a near 7 point disadvantage in PCS to P&Z. FWIW, P&Z's seasons best is only less than 4 points ahead of S&H's - a deficit which S&H theoretically could overcome at Nationals.

Now that P&Z is ahead of S&H on both international and domestic scores, P&Z goes.

Too bad Yan seems to have the most rotten luck ever when it comes to things like this. Still, he is ahead of Jin on seasons best by 27 points and ahead of Song by 40 points. So I believe he still gets to go.

Sorry to hear about Han Yan's injury. I find it worrying that boot problems seem to quite common among skaters to the detriment of loss time in training. Perhaps, to overcome this problem, it may be well advised to get several boots at the same time? Glad to hear that Han Yan is likely to represent China in Olympics. I think Jin is too young and not ready yet for that experience. He is a great jumper but IMO, his skating skills has a lot more work to be done.
