OMGOMGOMG! This makes me very happy. Thanks Sylvia! and of course now the speculation/rumor mill will begin to churn on the possible skaters and hockey players involved. Cuz we need more topics for the off season!:)

I guess CBC finally noticed that musical theatre faux-auditions don't draw viewers like skaters and hockey players do....

Even though I don't get the broadcasts, I'm glad it's back. Nice high profile gig for a number of skaters :cheer:

Hmmmm, shall we begin speculation on who might be participating?

My vote for the judging panel -- add Shae-Lynn Bourne. Please don't return Jeremy.

This is a great time for them to try the show again with the upcoming Olympic hype and Canada being so strong in figure skating in general right now. Nice to see they didn't give up on it entirely.

Hey, Paul Kariya's retired, and he is supposed to have figure skated. :D

I'll bet CBC is kicking itself for not running it this year- it would have done very well during the hockey strike!

No kidding - they could have run it Saturday nights in the HNIC slot and I bet it would have done great.

He was my first thought, to be honest.

I'd rather see her skate than judge!

If they want the ratings to go through the roof, they should try for Gretzy.

I absolutely second this! He's known for his speed in skating, has a good build for figure skating, and apparently he took some ballroom dancing lessons after he retired, so that may come in handy. :) He's not very big (so I don't know how he'd do with the lifts) and seems to be a pretty private person though, so not sure that he'd go for it, but would certainly love to see him do it! Has he really figure skated before?

I believe they never wanted to give up on it, but when funding was cut, expensive shows had to go. The ratings were great, but the up front cost was too much in a tight-budget year.

I wonder if it'll be a pre-olympic year, one-time only deal for now?

Nothing serious, but I think he dabbled in skating lessons when he was younger to improve his hockey skills.
He was a competitive swimmer as a kid.

That was my reaction too! If they don't lure Shae-Lynn back, they are completely insane! What about Crosby, now that he's having jaw surgery? Just don't pair him with Duhamel or he might have a broken nose too!

I don't think active NHLers are allowed to participate under their union agreements.

Paul Coffey would be good. He was always considered one of the best skaters in the NHL and he played defence so he has some size to him.

I mentioned this show in the "Shows Cancelled Too Early" thread. There's still hope for Homefront!

Great news....It was a fun program and I missed seeing it this past year. Wayne Gretsky would be great for improving number of viewers, and it sure helps figure skating as a sport as well.

I would prefer to see Shae-Lynn compete as well but considering how I felt with the results of who has won the past two seasons, I would "breathe" easier if she were a judge. I realize she may be quite busy with her "real" job so if she were a guest judge multiple times, maybe that could work.

In my very opinionated mind, she should have won last season. I was very sad when she didn't.

That being said, I'm thrilled to bits they are bringing it back.

Why did CBC announce their lineup on NHL trade deadline day? Not that I mind; needed some good news today...

Oh happy, happy, joy, joy! :rollin:

The link doesn’t work for me. :( Is this the same article?

I wonder if this will limit their choices for hockey players/skaters to those who live in or near the GTA?

    YAY!

Much as it would be nice, I doubt Shae Lynne Bourne would be brought on the show as the second judge. They've always had a hockey player as the second permanent judge. I would actually like to see that spot filled by one of the players who has previously been on the show and actually has some idea of just how much work has gone into learning those skills & programs.

Exactly!!! I was hoping the CBC would do that, as it's a natural lead in to Sochi and gives them a chance to really promo their coverage of the Games to Canada. Can NOT wait!!

I too hope for Paul Kariya. What about Ronnie Francis? I remember he used to be a pretty smooth skater back in the day.

I could happily watch Paul Coffey skate around a rink in circles. His skating skills are second to none.
As one of my friends said once, "Paul Coffey invented skating."

Totally agree on the choice of hockey player. I'd like to see Georges Laracques(sp?).

I suggest Barbara Underwood as a judge. She coaches power skating to NHLers. She lives in Toronto where the show is produced. She's a retired pairs figure skater and a former competitor on the show. She's a former TV commentator. Ticks all the boxes for qualifications.

I wonder if Kurt will be the host again? I hope so.

I assume you want Barbara Underhill as a judge.
