    It's a new season ... time for a new thread :)
Lots of rumours of new teams, can anyone confirm any of them?

I'm hoping someone can confirm a Purich/Schultz pairing soon. I'd love to see them together and expect they would have a bright future. A team to step in once Duhamel/Radford and MT/M retire. I honestly don't see either of those teams lasting another 4 years. I also don't see Lawernce/Swegers lasting either. They've had far too many injuries the last few seasons.

When L&S were interviewed by Scott Russell on CBC at Worlds, they didn't confirm that they are continuing, so perhaps that means they are going to assess Paige's injury in the off-season and see whether it's good for her to continue.

Re-posting from the 2013-14 Canada Pairs thread:
Maybe they will be considered for a Skate Canada host spot if they monitor well this summer? I imagine they could get a Senior B opportunity in the early fall?

    Purdy and Marinaro are done.

Pretty sure that Michaud and McLean will be skating Junior. She has a decent 2A and is getting close on her 3S and 3T.

Are either one going to look for a new partnership? Or are they done with skating?

And its going to be important for Skate Canada to get some new senior teams out on the international circuit this fall.

With Purich & Tran splitting, and Lawrence & Swiegers considering retirement, why would Purdy & Marinaro split now? They have a chance at the podium next year.

Even if L&S continue, their inconsistency and injury issues provide other teams like P&M with an opening.

maybe because the lifts get a little bit dangerous for both of them?;)

True - that may be the reason. But in the other thread, people said that Michael has stated he was staying with Margaret. So it will be interesting to see if this means they are both leaving together, or are going to look for other partners. At her height, Margaret may find it difficult to find any guy tall enough for her.

Anyways, Skate Canada can't be happy that both Purich/Tran & Purdy/Marinaro are no more. The Senior Pairs in Canada are getting very depleted - there were only 2 pairs who met the minimum scores for 4CC's this year, and now those 2 teams are done.

How sure are you about this...or is this just rumor?
Sad as it is for them it's SO for the best. Michael has a bright future. He needs to get to Natasha before that deal is sealed with Schultz. They would be a great fit in size, personality, body type....and could probably get out on the GP this fall. I'd be surprised if they don't at least try out. I've been sending vibes to the skate gods for two years now to make this pair happen.....

:sekret: tell me Purich is with Drew Wolfe who was 7th at Junior Men at Nats this year. He's young so perhaps she's taking another run at the jr. circuit. Not sure what this means for Schultz. Would love to have some eye witnesses to all this. So far all I'm hearing is second hand.

I don't think so... rumor mill is spinning out KMT/Reagan pairing (which would mean the end of Jones and Reagan?)

Wow. If even half of these rumours are true, the pairs landscape in Canada will look quite different in the upcoming season.

Wow again. So she's moved back to AB?

Wow that's a whole lot of changes in Canadian pairs skating.

Moore-Towers and Reagan could work I guess, if Dylan is really done. And I don't blame him as he's nearing 30 and is probably ready for the next phase of his life.

Why would they be finished? Kirsten & Dylan just said after the Olympics/Worlds that they were ready to continue on for another cycle and were motivated to go as far as 2018.

Yeah, that's what I heard too, unless something's changed in the last month or so. I don't think Kirsten would skate with Beharry because he is her ex.

I've heard Schultz retired and wouldn't move to Quebec.
    Purich/Wolf will train on Quebec.
    Marinaro is skating with MT.
If you can learn anything from this it's that people say politically correct things when asked even though they know their intentions for the future are different. No way Dylan's body would last 4 more years so she's smart to start over now. Just don't think Marinaro is the right choice. Time will tell. Heard merv is skating with Donlan but that may still be just a rumour.

Well you're right that skaters do often change their minds from what they say earlier in the season so I think we've all learned to not take every statement at face value, but in the case of Kirsten & Dylan, they sounded particularly confident that they would be continuing on next season.

There are other pairs skaters Dylan's age still competing (Radford is only about a year younger and Savchenko is older), but there is a big age difference between him and Kirsten. So I suppose it's possible that if he's retiring and Kirsten wants to continue, the beginning of a new cycle would be the time to make a change.

If that turns out to be the team, it's going to confuse some of the judges, and perhaps Rod Black, as well. ;)

A lot of swapped names to get used to!

Well, from what I've heard (nothing official), but KMT is with Joshua Reagan, and I don't know about Dylan, but i suspect it has more to do with age and injuries after so many years in the sport that he's done.

This doesn't seem possible. Moore Towers and Moscovitch seemed so committed to continuing.

Ok, so there could be the following new pair teams for Canada next season:

    Moore-Towers/Marinaro
    or
    Moore-Towers/Reagan
    Purich/Wolfe
    Donlan/Tran

    Any others?

Kirsten Moore-Towers could technically do two more Olympics if she wanted to. It'll be interesting to see who she ends up with.

Does Donlan have any triple jumps?

That's what I said above. We had heard they were very committed to coming back next season.

But we do know from past experience that skaters change their minds. We've had far more surprising splits/retirements in the past. We'll have to wait and see whether this turns out to be true.

Apparently, yes - Calgary Herald article from before 2013 Canadians: http://www2.canada.com/calgaryherald/news/sports/story.html?id=a86ecf80-adc4-457f-b489-097126c791e1

ETA that Gretchen Donlan is in college at Boston University - the following article/video was published before her split from Andrew Speroff was known: http://www.bu.edu/today/2014/gretchen-donlan-figure-skating-and-premed/
Donlan last competed internationally at Ice Challenge in Graz, Austria (November 23, 2013).
