    The lutz is the second most difficult triple jump and, in the case of most ladies, often the most difficult one we see in their programs. Who did it best? Explain why, and feel free to post examples other than the ones I've listed.

    Midori Ito http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDcctP-KVXo#t=0m30s

    Tonya Harding www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5_7Iu82gi8#t=2m14s

    Irina Slutskaya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbK7zlfJAIE#t=1m0s

    Viktoria Volchkova http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pbZsz7ENVU&feature=related#t=1m15s

    Julia Sebestyen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fkrR0cBuaY&feature=fvwrel#t=1m40s

    Oksana Baiul http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_fvrG3f0fI#t=0m40s

    Yuna Kim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JQOoGF8WfY

    Emily Hughes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MYJm-snH0Q&feature=related#t=1m26s

    Agnes Zawadzki http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snlPIaXKcSw#t=1m02s

    Gracie Gold http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enfbO9TTbU8#t=2m11s

    Miki Ando http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AR8QRfAWOtc#t=02m47s

    Honorable mentions: Denise Biellmann (first ever!), Shizuka Arakawa, Vanessa Gusmeroli, Nancy Kerrigan, Lu Chen, Anna Rechnio (though her edge goes a bit flat), Joannie Rochette, Carolina Kostner, Maria Butyrskaya

    ~~~~
    All of the ladies in the poll have BO edge, IMO, with the only possible exceptions being Slutskaya and Ito, who tend to roll inwards to some degree.
    For me, it's a toss up between Volchkova, Sebestyen, and Harding. I went with Harding, who tends to have a bit more speed in and out.
    I remember whenever Sebestyen was competing I would watch for her Lutz. It was huge! I used to enjoy Volchkova's and Arakawa's skating as well. Arakawa eventually rose to the top, but sadly Volchkova never did.
    She deserves an honorable mention for sure! Not sure how I overlooked her, but I was always impressed how she managed to do such huge powerful jumps and make them work with soft delicate sections in the music.
    I think VV's lutz was fabulous. I do think Joannie should have been on the list :)
    Tough call, but I went with VV as well with Sebastyen a close 2nd. Midori always had great height and strength in her jumps, but her wrapped free leg always bothered me.
    The name that immediately came to mind when I saw the title of this thread was Volchkova. Sebestyen had a beautiful lutz as well.
    That's the problem with only having 12 options ;)
    Another lady with a huge lutz at the same competition from the above link:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWxeqEPrPek#t=0m56s
    And Tatiana did have a great lutz as well:
    Easy. Harding.
    However, Liz Manley deserves to be in the poll.
    I thought about Manley, but I've hardly never seen her land a lutz with a strong edge on the landing.
    ETA: Oops:)
    Nancy Kerrigan. Textbook outside edge triple lutz.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v6qwtKRKeM Note the jump and commentary starting at 4:56 and especially the DEEP outside edge going into the jump. Slo-mo replay at 7:53.
    Can't decide between Volchkova and Harding. Also love Butyrskaya's and Ito's.
    From the videos you posted, Harding is the best. The speed and flow coming out is amazing, not to mention the height and spring
    For me Arakawa had the softest landing of them all and looking back, you wonder what unfulfilled talent was Volchkova
    Kim's are great too and spectacular with the speed she skates too and Chen's were super elegant
    Kerrigan's lutz - when it worked - was always a thing of beauty, as were all her jumps actually (again when they were landed ;)) The one you linked to is just incredible. Tough but it's hard to deny the sheer brilliance of Harding's lutz. They still make me go :eek:
    Volchkova's jumps were beautiful on takeoffs and in the air and high but carried no flow at all out, even less than Slutskaya who atleast sometimes carried decent flow out. She looked like someone standing on her toe on the balance beam trying to keep her balance in one spot. I couldnt pick her for any jumps based on that. My choice would be Harding, but it would actually be between Harding and Kerrigan for me.
    Harding's lutz, as posted, was amazing,
    I had forgotten how great Kerrigan's was.
    I linked to that performance on the first page. What's most impressive to me is that Tanja obtained 3lutz later in her career, after already medaling on the world stage without it.
    Here are some more great lutzes by Harding, the current leader:
    I was fortunate enough to see the 1994 US Nationals in person and a week later, the Canadian Championships live as well.
    Two ladies in Edmonton really stood out, Josee Chouinard and Tanya Bingert (whom I'd heard great things about but never seen). Bingert in particular, got amazing height and distance on her triple lutz.
    Annie Bellemare and Angie Derochie, both competed in the late 90s - early 2000s, from memory had killer triple lutz jumps as well.
    I can't find a video but there was a Disney on Ice special with Oksana Baiul as a guest (I believe Kwan was the big star) and she did one of the most amazing 3lutzs I have ever seen. Granted, this was filmed so she could have tried it 1,000 times but my goodness, it was beautiful.
