Who is the #1 diva?
That's so true!
Very difficult, between Katarina Witt and Pasha Grishuk...
My very beloved Tatiana Navka! I think she was a diva in a positive way.
Witt, definitely. It's just not an act for her, it's so natural for her. Both on and off the ice and still. And I say this in a good way. Her divaism is so exciting that it has brought the sport so much attention.
Going through the choices:
How was Kerrigan a diva?
Scott... lol he's too masculine
Pasha - omg she was too much... and in a bad way
I don't see how Yuna was a diva
Johnny Weir - I can see that. He's also Gossip Girl
Plush complained about Vancouver, but I don't see Diva with him
Witt - she was before my time so I didn't really notice any drama about her
Navka - lotsa drama but only with the headband that can cure blindness and turn lead to gold
Henie - WAY WAY WAY before my time
Tonya - She was before my time and the only thing I know that she did was the Kerrigan incident. Not very diva like.
Patrick - In order to be a diva, you need people to actually care about what you're saying...
Surya - Love me some medal removal. Reminds me of Russia at the Sydney Olympics after winning the team silver.
I'd also nominate Krylova and Fusar-Poli
The medal ceremony in Lillehammer started lated because they couldn't find a Ukranian flag [actually the article below says it was the anthem], but Nancy thought it was because Oksana was re-applying her makeup, and snarked in front of the cameras "but she's just going to cry again!" Here is an article http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-sr...998/history/timeline/articles/time_030494.htm
I always had the belief that Nancy Kerrigan was a bit of a....witch. The medal ceremony is one example, and there was her behavior at Disney World I believe...anyone remember that? Didn't she sort of snake her current husband away from his previous wife? I'm not accusing her of all this-just remember hearing it. If it isn't true, let's set the record straight. If true....well then, I still don't consider her being a diva. Just maybe indulging in poor behavior at times (as we all do...right?)
I voted for Johnny Weir but now I think Pasha should win. But Johnny IS a diva!
Kerrigan's behavior at some of the pro comps after that was even worse. I'll always remember the one event where she showed up out of shape and skated terribly and told the interviewer afterward that it didn't matter how she skated becuase they were all being paid the same amount of money no matter how they placed.
I fell in love with Scott Hamilton for about 5 seconds when he said that it matters to the fans paying money, and that if that was her attitude then don't bother coming next time.
Nancy was a diva, just not a fun one.
Oh, and I voted for Moir, even though Pasha is of course the obvious choice.
Nancy Kerrigan at 93 worlds skated poorly and said I want to die in the kiss and cry.
I voted for Sonja tho because of all the lavish Hollywood parties equipped with ice swans in the swimming pool, the jewelry obsession, I could go on and on. She was actually worse than Weir, or she could afford to be worse anyway.
Even in Germany, I bet Sonja would have put Katarina in her place . . .
Kerrigan at the Disney Parade was pretty funny..
Kerrigan @ 8:40 on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8Sk7yBYl8c
Baiul, Cohen, Ilyinkh, and now potentially Wagner. Love
I say it's Shephard Clark! Especially after his appearance with the cat on that tv show.. Lol!!
I did vote for Moir though.. He could be a little byotch!
From the things I've heard about her, I'd have to say Sonja Henie. There are a lot of worthy choices on the poll though!
As much as it's a "bad attitude" i kind of love Wagners reactions to her competitors skates.
As far as I'm concerned, the #1 diva in skating will always be Sonja Henie.
Pasha is a diva with huge accomplishments to back it up, Weir is one without real accomplisments. I voted for Weir.
Bonaly was a diva... I dont see Nancy as a diva, i just see her more as a bitch
i agree. i just wish johnny would back up his diva-ness with big accomplishments. at least, when some casual figureskating fans would look at men's skating and see weir, they can understand or accept his flamboyance more, and not just because he's gay.
i believe a fan called him el divo somewhere, especially after his "piss-off" comments for the GP judging.
What have you heard about her other than the stuff mentioned here in this thread?
Any videos of Wagner's reactions? I don't really watch much of her, so I never really saw her act like a diva.
It's not a bad attitude, she's just really confident and has the bitchface down pat. Plus her being a hot california girl makes her whole "diva" image come off that much more convincingly.
Pasha is a true diva. Weir is a drama queen.
There was a video of her at 2010 US Nationals, I believe after Sasha Cohen's (disastrous) free skate (I believe it is in the video of Sasha's FS), the camera panned to Ashley in the back waiting where she kind of jumped up and down, looked really happy, and she appears to say "Only one more girl has to f*** up, and then it's me going.
It's not really that bad though..I would be excited if I was 1st and there were 2 more skaters to go...
Oh how I miss Sasha and how I was still amazed at her trying out in 2010 Nationals.
I've heard various things mentioned on tv documentaries and things of her having a difficult personality and acting like a diva.
On a ESPN special called Road to Glory or something like that, there was a mention of her being angry and ripping up a score card or something because she didn't think she was scored ahead enough. I don't remeber the exact words they used to describe this.
On the 1994 Olympic coverage, after the Olympics aired (maybe on late night, I'm not sure) there was a fluff/documentary piece done on Sonja Henie where they spoke of her being quite difficult and having a strong personality or something like that. I have it recorded, but haven't watched it for a while (Sonja Henie didn't really interest me too much at the time). They interviewed a man who knew her and said some things about her personality and of her being a diva. If I have time, I'll watch it again and describe it with a better memory of it.*
I read some books on Henie that stated she was addicted to men and when her mother died, the first words that came out of Sonya's mouth, was "take off her rings". Then there's the whole Hitler thing. She was also addicted to fur.
Yes, exactly along the lines of what I was referring to. And yes, I heard she was with LOTS of men.
I voted for Henie, too. In addition to the bio her brother wrote, I've read dozens of books on Old Hollywood and almost nobody had anything positive to say about her.
Unless you're talking about diva in a good way, I don't think Navka is one. She always seems very nice and gracious and I've never heard anything Diva-like about her. Unless you just mean the headband and lots of make-up, which I loved by the way.
Agree with this
She was a diva in a positive way in that she was very glamorous.
I voted for Moir, but my first thought went to Skary Babs!
Separate names with a comma.
