Great news re Ashley's endorsement!
Here's Ashley's latest entry (Nov. 28) before the GP Final: http://espn.go.com/espnw/blog/post/2478/headed-sochi-olympic-preview
ETA: This Nov. 26 IceNetwork article quoted Wagner's IMG agent as saying that she may make some appearances in Nike stores but gave no further details at this time about what being named an "Nike athlete" entails.
^^ Thanks for posting.
Good luck to Ashley and Christina at Sochi GPF!
Ashley is certainly earning through hard work and her results the kind of opportunities that come to a top US lady in front of the Olympics. The pressure from expectations and outside commitments will however only mount, so hopefully she will be able to continue to handle it. Of course, this is what skater's aim for and dream about, so time will tell.
Gearing up for Nationals (Jan. 11, 2013): http://espn.go.com/espnw/blog/post/2898/gearing-nationals
Go Ashley!! I love her competitiveness, her drive and confidence, and I really want to see her repeat as champion this year.
Her latest blog re. Nationals - "It was stressful, but I came out on top": http://espn.go.com/espnw/blog/post/3172/it-was-stressful-came-top
Thanks for that. It's nice to hear her thoughts regarding what happened. I still think 120-anything was too high for that performance but I'm glad she still has her US crown. She's worn it very well for the past year and I think she's the best person to wear it heading into worlds.
I'm glad she turned down 4CC. (1) It gives a few skaters a chance to get some ISU cred and (2) she really needs the time to prepare for worlds. Not that it's an excuse but coming back from her injury and then the food poisoning thing didn't help her FS that night. My hope is that those things did factor in and that with some rest she'll be back in competitive form for worlds.
What will happen if Gold out skates her at Worlds? Will many jump the Ashley ship and get on board the Gracie train lol?
^^I know I won't but you can bet your life the USFSA will.
Gracie is an amazing jumper but that's it. If and when she becomes a more complete skater I'll hop on her bandwagon but for now she bores me when she skates...
Does everyone have to be an uber? Can we just be happy to see all the skaters we like do well? I really enjoy Ashley's skating- but I enjoy many other skaters as well.
I love her maturity and the respect she has for her coaches. I want her to have the performance of her dreams at Worlds. I think she and Gracie are fine representatives.
Very well said. Ashley has worked hard and takes every mistake as a learning experience. I hope she will skate two programs that she will be very proud of at Worlds, regardless of placement. Gracie has the goods as well and could make a splash at Four Continents and Worlds.
Ashley's pre-Worlds blog is up: http://espn.go.com/espnw/blog/post/3715/no-time-second-guessing-myself
Good attitude! I just wish she wouldn't keep bringing up the 3 spots for Sochi thing. She's putting undue pressure on herself.
Thanks for the link Sylvia. Can't believe Worlds is finally upon us. Best of luck to all our competitors!
really nice blog. Thanks for the link.
Thanks, great blog post. Best of luck!
Thanks for the blog. Hoping that Ashley and Gracie do well at Worlds.
Sounds like she is motivated after what happened. Naturally I would have the same reaction you do but then again, there are some who thrive off that kind of pressure.
