Quiet in Russia? The people brutally beaten for having their pride parade is hardly what I would call "quiet". Quiet for us since we are not IN Russia itself.. I'm shocked you didn't include a "!" after every sentence too..

    Brava Ashley.

I fear the USFSA will now drop her like a rock.

I can't blame her for that. When she is in Russia she is there 'working', she should only be focusing on skating (besides, the Olympics forbids political statements, she could get sent back home without competing!). That she said anything is huge in such a political sport.

Not a chance. She and Gold punched their tickets to Turin the moment they returned 3 spots to the U.S women. The USFSA knows that Gold and Wagner are their only two slim hopes for a medal in the ladies event in Sochi, and only certainties of a respectable result, only skaters at this point they could market and overhype their chances to the U.S public in the lead up to the Games that the public would even recognize.

That said great for Ashley for standing up for an issue she believes in, especialy with such a pressure packed season approaching.

If they do, it will only prove that the accusations of anti-gay bigotry are correct, IMO

I'm glad that figure skating has one brave soul willing to speak out (as much as an athlete who wants a berth on the Olympic team can speak out). It shows how brave she really is, and is consistent with her fighter attitude. This is what a true sporting hero and role model looks like.

    Bravo, Ashley!

Love her for speaking up, and I love the way she spoke up. Very honest and straightforward, no false piety, and with minimal political grandstanding. None, really, considering she was expressing her opinion on such a contentious issue. Rock on, and get that damn 3-3, girl!

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

The way I read it Evan, Gracie, and Max did the equivalent of "no comment", Agnes said the equivalent of 'I can't be bothered to care one way or the other, the issue doesn't concern me'.

Now that Ashley has eloquently said something, and Jeremy not so eloquently- I wonder if more skaters will feel comfortable saying something? I honestly think many of them are scared to take a stand.
