Just so you know, I’m not snubbing American Idol mentors. The Last Song with Miley Cyrus opens on Wednesday, March 31st, so that’s why this movie is not included in the poll. You’re all going to go see it, right?? ;) I Love You Philip Morris and Leaves of Grass and The Runaways open wide in April, but were included in previous threads, so I’ve left them off this month’s list (Leaves of Grass partly because it looks BAD to me!!).

I will absolutely go see Nightmare on Elm Street even though I am sure it will suck but it is my favorite horror franchise and I must go see it.

I think Date Night looks hilarious, so I checked that box, too.

After watching all the movie trailers, I wondered if I should do a movie thread this month. I couldn't believe how many CRAP trailers I had to watch over and over again. I swear this is the worst month for new movies since I started doing these threads... :(

Okay. You've been warned. Watch at your own risk!!

That said, I did enjoy a few.

I didn't realize the plot of Date Movie was more intriguing than I had expected. And the end of the trailer made me laugh out loud, which I rarely do.

Another bright spot was A Shine of Rainbows. I had not heard of it, there are not a lot of big name stars in it and the budget for this movie was probably tiny. Normally I would not have included a movie like this in the poll. But after watching so many CRAP trailers, this one stood out and it even made me cry. So it took me by surprise. If this movie is half as good as it's trailer, then it should be considered a must-see.

After.Life was another really good trailer, one that makes you want to see the movie... "but what really happens!!??" :D The Greatest looks intriguing, if a little self-absorbed.

Two others worth mentioning. The Back-Up Plan has Alex O'Loughlin with numerous shirtless shots (that alone surely worthy of the ticket price ) and Gunless has the still-beautiful Paul Gross in it (as a cowboy, to boot - yee-haw!!).

Other than that...SKIP THEM ALL!!! (Well, maybe go see Clash of the Titans...let's wait for some reviews...)

I hope COTT is at least decent. The director already has it in mind to do two more sequels after this.

I fear for Death at a Funeral. American remakes of truly funny British comedies rarely work. The wit just doesn't seem to translate.

I can't believe this one is being re-made already. The original was only from 2007, I believe, and it was great! No reason to touch it, especially since it was in English. Strange that Peter Dinklage is playing the same role in both versions... It's also strange that the new version is directed by Neil LaBute and it still looks bad (LaBute has directed Lakeview Terrace, Nurse Betty, In The Company of Men and Possession).

On the plus side, we'll get to see James Marsden almost completely nekkid... :grope:

Okay as a child I saw COTT and it was . Medusa does that to you

I absolutely love Greek mythology as a child; I watched Kevin Sorbo's Hercules, Lucy Lawless's Xena, and the Disney Hercules. I was fortunate enough to take a bunch of mythology related classes in the past two years. I admit that other than Medusa, I remember nothing else about the film (maybe the part with Andromeda and the Godzilla-Kraken also). So I went to look up the original and the new one. Ultimately, Hollywood storytelling burns me again. :lynch:

I don't remember how accurate Xena and Hercules was because it's been a very long while but I recently rewatched the Disney one. It was cute for a Disney film but that was it. I feel conflicted over COTT because it's so misleading. I didn't know about its new plot until recently because I haven't been up-to-date with film news post-Olympics. My geeky self is seething that Hades is once again the villain and while the title is Clash of the Titans, there are no actual Titans in the film.... because they have to be locked in the depths in order for Zeus to rule the skies (for Hades to wage war against in the film.)

This is probably one of the few times I get to see a Greek mythology-related film and the effects look great. I'll probably suck it up and go watch that since the other movies don't really excite me.

I want to see Clash of the Titans, Why Did I Get Married Too(I watched the first one on TV and really liked it, last week), Date Night, Death at a Funeral(this one looks hilarious, and I loved the British version as well), and Kick Ass.

I won't see all of them in the theater, but I'll see them eventually.

I already have plans to see Death at a Funeral with my daughter. We loved the original - rarely do movies have me laughing hysterically as that one did. I'll be interested to see the changes in the American version, and I love Tracy Morgan.

I dunno. The original Clash of the Titans is so cheesy it's superb. I see no need to remake it just because we now have "cooler" special effects.

Only 17% fresh so far for COTT on rottentomatoes. The audience will probably ignore the critics on opening weekend like they did for Alice and turns out for this film anyway.

Just saw two good movies reviewed on At The Movies.

    The Eclipse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqTO48onuC8

This one is a dramatic horror romance (!!!) and the lead is played by Ciarán Hinds who is the kind of actor you've seen many times before, but never learned his name. It also stars Aidan Quinn, who is having a very busy month!! This one looks creepy and interesting and GOOD! :D

    Mother http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rDeNM-M8p8

This one is a (spooky) drama directed by Joon-ho Bong, who made "The Host" which got a lot of acclaim. It was the movie about the monster living in the Han River that starts to act out in a rather nasty way towards the people in the area. It was a bit campy and (more than) a bit scary! "Mother" looks more like a regular drama, but one that'll keep you on the edge of your seat.

Surely it can't be worse than COTT Original Recipe. That one was possibly the biggest block of Velveeta to ever cover mythology, and I still love watching it, crappy FX and all. Even if it sucks, I'll still go see the new one, especially since Liam Neeson and Polly Walker are in it :) .

Anybody catch COTT (Clash of the Titans) last night? It doesn't seem to be getting very good reviews (but I still want to see it!) :D

I'm curious what people think about the 3-D version of COTT as this movie was not intially made to be in 3-D. I read an article last week that as little as a month or two ago, they decided to re-do the movie in a 3-D version...I guess when they saw how well both Avatar and then Alice In Wonderland did in their 3-D versions, they figured they should give it a try as well. The problem was that with both of these movies still in theatres, very few (if any) 3-D screens would be available. I guess they're playing those older films in their 2-D versions to make room for COTT.

3-D seems to be the next big thing, so many movies are now being made this way and there are not enough screens to handle the 3-D movies that will be coming out. Supposedly theatres are scrambling to add more 3-D screens to their theatres.

Personally, I'm not on the 3-D bandwagon at this point (but I haven't seen Avatar yet). But then I don't see a big difference in "high definition" channels and I didn't think music CD's sounded that much better than audio cassettes...

I don't see much of a difference in HD TVs either (my dad is all about the HD).. but I do think that CDs sound better than cassettes. I still prefer the sound of good old fashion vinyl though

The HD TV doesn't do you any good if you aren't watching the HD channels your cable/satellite might provide. Trust me, there is a HUGE difference. I can't stand to watch sporting events in anything other than HD now, I am spoiled.

I heard from a friend and they said it was good but don't dare waste your money on 3D.

Yeah I've watched the HD channels on an HDTV (it's all my dad will watch too) and still don't really notice that much difference. It must be a guy thing because my dad and my boyfriend can sit and talk about all the different kinds of TVs and the "massive" difference between HD and regular TV and I really couldn't care less. All I care is that it will let me watch the shows I want to watch

The big problem with COTT and AIW were that these films were not made and directed with 3-D in mind at all. They were done as regular 2D films and then converted into 3D post-processing, because the studios were greedy to tap into the 3D market after the success of Avatar. The final results for COTT and AIW just aren't the same as for Avatar. A lot of the criticisms for COTT have been over the unecessary conversion to 3D, because the audience can't tell what was the purpose of it. I hope this trend dies fast.
