Does anyone know what happened to Angela Maxwell? It seems like she just dropped off the face of the earth.

    Additionally:
Am I the only one who thinks the situation with Drew Meekins is a little strange? He has been on IPS for more that two years? I think if he was serious about skating pairs he would be competing? What's up with that?

I really thought this thread about about them pairing up/having a try-out...

He can't compete in pairs if he doesn't have a partner. Seems pretty obvious to me....

Well money is always a problem for skaters. Finding a partner usually means one person has to relocate, so it's not that simple. Sometimes skaters just fade away, they want to skate, but the opportunities just aren't there.

He's very short for a Pairs skater.

We've had two separate threads asking the same questions about both Maxwell and Meekins here in the Trash Can since the beginning of 2011 (do we really need yet another a combined one? I also thought they were pairing up due to this thread title! :p) -- links to those threads:

    Angela Maxwell

    Drew Meekins

Isn't he like 5'9" or 5'10"? That's not THAT short, he'd be fine with a small partner, actually, Angela Maxwell would probably be the perfect size for someone like him.

Yeah, he's not super short, but he's quite slender--not of the truck driver type of male pairs skater.

However, I would LOVE to see him find someone, if only to show her how a spiral REALLY should be done. :)

I'd love to see him team up with Kiri Baga. I get that she might want to see how she can fair in singles when she isn't injured, but I personally think she could really shine in pairs skating, and that she probably won't get too far in singles. And she's very petite too.

    That's actually a great idea! :)

    Only she can still grow.

Honestly, I've given up hope that Meekins will return to competitive skating. :shuffle:

Yeah but her family is small and she hasn't grown much in the past couple years and she's 16 now so I'm thinking she probably won't. I like watching her skate singles though so I'd love if she'd do both for at least a few years haha.

Well the chance she'll make it to the Senior Worlds/Olympic Team is like 1%. If I was her, I'd be looking for a strong male partner.

I agree that Kiri's chances of "making it" in the US as a singles skater are slim. I think Pairs is the route for her if she wants to have a shot at the big time.

Yeah that's what I think too, she also seems injury prone and pairs might help in that respect because most of her injuries have involved her ankle/foot and she wouldn't spend so much timing training the harder triples if she made the switch.

If Drew's tweets are any indication, money is certainly not a problem for a jet setter like him. I'm almost convinced htat his full-time job may be tweeting. He's probably the most active skater in Twitter-land!

    ^^^^^^

Yep. That's more or less why I really don't expect to see him back in competitive skating. I'll be happy if I'm wrong though. :)
