Anastasia Gubanova - Short Program (2013 Warsaw Cup)
Anastasia Gubanova - Free Skating (2013 Warsaw Cup)
Anastasia Gubanova - Free Skating (2012 Crystal Skate)

I will never forget the first time I have seen a video of Elena Radionova from some local competition. She was eleven years old and it was an FS where she landed 3toe, 3salchow and 3loop, skating with incredible confidence for somebody that young. 3 years on, Radionova is a Junior World Champion and she's giving experienced senior skaters a run for their money, and now we have another incredibly talented young skater to be amazed by.

Anastasia Gubanova is 10-years old and she has just competed in Novice Ladies at 2013 Warsaw Cup (links to videos above).

The fact that a 10-year old is landing 3flip/2toe and a 3loop is absolutely mindblowing but it's not just what jumps she lands, it's how she does it and there's more to her skating than just the big tricks.

When young girls are landing triple jumps, the problem often is that their technique is terrible. The take-offs are forced, there is hardly any elevation, the jumps are cheated. You know the drill. And then when the skater grows up, the jumps are gone. Caroline Zhang being a very good example of this.

This does not appear to be the case with Gubanova. For somebody this tiny, the amount of elevation she gets on the jumps is very impressive. She also gets very good position in the air and there doesn't seem to be any doubt that her rotation is getting completed.

Jumps aside, her edges are deep and she skates with good flow throughout. I have never seen basic skating quality this strong from a skater that young.

And finally, her movement is very elegant and refined. She has clearly had a lot of ballet training from a very early age. Again, this kind of maturity from somebody this young is nothing short of remarkable.

    I am absolutely amazed.

Any Russian posters that have seen her at some local competition and perhaps have more information about her?

Well, Gubanova is well known for Russian FS fans from 2011-2012 season when she was a tiny 9 y.o. and already landed clean triple flips in competitions. Here is FS from Crystal skate 2012

She already was very musical with strong basics and only got better since then. Her coach is Alexei Urmanov.

    Autumn_girl, thanks for the info.

After seeing the FS, it looks like her axel technique is fine and she just fudged the take-off in the SP.

Sylvia, this is the results page for 2013 Warsaw Cup. http://www.pfsa.com.pl/results/1314/WC2013/index.htm
Results are being updated in real time and not just at the end of the day. :)

Even better, the videos are uploaded in real time as well. The organiser has really pull out all the stops out this year. ^^

So much :kickass: attack and coverage for someone that young. Oh yeah, and the jumps she's trying at that age --good for her! Hope she stays injury free.

She's lovely. The jumps are great for her age but I I was most impressedby how good her skat ing skills and presentation are for such a young kid.

That was lovely. Loved her deep edges, flow, and attention to detail at such a young age.

Given how solid her jump technique is, I highly doubt that is going to happen unless she's hampered by injuries or decides to quit.

My goodness - only 10 years old . She really does have lovely fluidity in her movement across the ice and her body movement. The choreography doesn't stop. Very talented.

Okay, what is her short program music? It's so familiar, and it's been bugging me for days that I can't figure it out. Anyone?

When I was looking at the JGPF results, I saw the name Anastasia Gubanov in pairs (or was it ice dance? I will have to go back and check). I am wondering if there are two ladies with very similar names? The single lady Gubanova (10 yrs old) is apparently different from the pairs/ID skater Gubanov (not sure why she did not add the 'a' as Russian ladies do). At first glance though I thought it was this Anastasia.

Gubanova is obviously a very technically talented lady, but somehow she doesn't do anything for me. I prefer Elizaveta Nugumanova. Same age, doesn't have the jumps quite yet, but she really expresses her music!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1nGRrVg7eE

Both Gubanova and Nugumanova will be junior eligible only in 2016/2017, so they still have the rest of this season and 2 more seasons to improve before we see them at the JGP events.

All these talented young ladies create a lot of excitement for 2022. It will be interesting to see how they develop. I hope they will do very well.
