    Miscellaneous Idol news:

Rumours at http://mjsbigblog.com/ is that this week’s mentor is Christina Aguilera (not Miley Cyrus). And Usher will mentor next week.

David Cook will release a new single in April and “hopefully” a new CD this summer:

Anoop’s single at youtube (not an official video, so music only):

Paula Abdul won’t be hosting ABC’s new version of Star Search:

I'd love to see Christina Aguilera mentor, but MJ posted a press release from Fox saying that Miley is going to be the mentor. Maybe the reaction to that announcement was so negative that they decided to have Christina come in at the last minute, but it seems unlikely. Or maybe they just screwed up the press release? In general, they don't seem to have their stuff together this week over at Idol, so who knows what is going to happen.

Peter, during the competition, I don't think they release the numbers for the contestants' ITunes downloads, so it's probably not even possible for one of their downloads to be on the Billboard chart.

    :)

I know. I was just bored with typing out "who did you enjoy tonight" for the __nth time. "Who'll get to #1" was my best attempt at witty-ness. Nobody will show up on any Billboard chart until the winner is announced. They felt it was unfair to the contestants who were being outsold (I assume in a big way) by others.

Miley's mentoring has made the homepage of yahoo:

    http://ca.tv.yahoo.com/blog/idol-talk-mentor-lapse--1093

They go on to quote an Entertainment Weekly writer:

Poor Miley. Poor little (pitchy) rich girl... ;)

Song spoilers. Not sure how reliable they are. Take a look at Crystal's. Hee.

    Lee DeWyze
    The Letter

    Paige Miles
    Against All Odds

    Aaron Kelly
    I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing

    Crystal Bowersox
    Bobby McGee

    Michael Lynche
When a Man Loves a Woman

    Andrew Garcia
I heard it through the grapevone

    Katie Stevens
    Big Girls Don’t Cry

    Didi Benami You’re No Good

    Casey James
    Power of Lover

    Siobhan magnus
    Superstition

    Tim Urban
    Crazy Little Thing Called Love

I'm psyched for Crystal's, though obviously some people here won't be. I think Katie probably managed to go old by going young. Didi's could work well for her. Michael's is kind of predictable, but I don't know if his voice is strong enough for it or if has enough genuine soul. Casey's has me confused. Please don't let Andrew butcher that song. Tim's is kind of WTF?

Aaron picked my least favorite song done on Idol and somehow it is done almost every year! Ugh! Siobhan could have picked a ton of good songs and I like this song but I wouldn't have picked it for her. That being said, she could still do well with it. I love Crystal's pick! I know what some said before but if she is to do then now is a good time. She wont go home this week!

I just threw up all my dinner at the sight of Cyrus and Skankman in the front.

Yes, Miley, they don't need to be able to sing to be there. That's not a requirement.

Lee is awfully flat to my ears. I think I would enjoy his voice on an album but he just looks somewhat bored out there and I have never heard this song so that doesn't exactly help.

It wasn't a requirement for her TV show. :saint:

Lee does his best job to date on Joe Cocker's(?) The Letter. Raspy voice works. A few off notes.

I'm not really familiar with that song, but - not looking at him- he sounded just like Taylor Hicks! And he's old too...

    Blah.

Simon totally wrong. That was a perfect song for Lee. Does he have a better suggestion?

The version I know of the letter was by the Box Tops -~ 1968 or so
Lee was bouncing around the stage, didn't really have the beat, and sounded like a lounge singer at the local holiday inn

Paige is tentative with this song. And pitchy

See ya Paige, it must be a relief to all those still to perform to know they can't be worse than that...

Oh wait, yes some of them can...
