I am getting totally psyched for this, too. Time to crown the winner of season 11!

That's the result I hope for, also.
With "manipulated" voting possible; the other outcome wouldn't be a surprise, however.

With P2 possibly going to miss the first few weeks of the tour, it's really not in Idol's interests to have him win. Plus there's the "saved from elimination" narrative to play out for Jessica.

And I think Phillip will do better as the runner up, in any case. Sometimes I wish David Cook had been the runner up instead of the winner, and maybe gotten more freedom with his albums. Oh, well.

^ I think you're right on all counts. I'll look forward to David Cook's next album.

Bebe Chez for the win! Sorry but P2 is not my thing, if we are going on voice alone, then Jessica wins in a run away.

Gah, P2 won the coin toss and gets to go last... I'm finding Jessica is a bit underwhelming with this Whitney choice... is she sick?

Not really in the mood for a Whitney song, but Jessica was very powerful. An off note or two, but good. Just kind of a predictable choice.

Kind of a WTF choice by Simon Fuller for WGWG... again a bit underwhelming, but I think it's more entertaining. Round one to WGWG

I didn't like either of them, though neither was bad. Just boring.

The Voice and AI must have bought the same song lists this season. I liked Chris and Xtina better.

I found Simon Fuller's song choices to be cliche and lazy. They were well-sung, but why two old standbys?

Another generic ballad for the winner. Will AI never learn?

Randy says Jessica has "swagger" like Beyonce. A homeschooled 16 year old? Has swagger? Nyet, comrades.

Disliked Jessica's original song or whatever they're calling it. She sang it okay, she needs to embrace and enunciate lyrics in general.

Didn't like Jessica's potential "single" at all. Seems all the judges agree. Hmmm....

Ugh, it's throw Jessica under the bus time. Watch WGWG totally get an undeserved tongue bathing for generic crappy song.

I'm convinved theyre trying to sabotage her

Feck, I knew it... They gave him a song that they knew was going to play to his core crowd, Tongue bathing... the song was mediocre at best... He's won easily. Feck... Another completely undeserving idol win. :blah:

or play reverse psychology. Either way I just think it'd be so wrong for the winner of a supposedly viewer voted show to be someone that was rightful voted off earlier.

I didn't like P2's song, either, but it's definitely "him," and will play to his fan base.

Throwing people under the bus doesn't work. See Cook, David and Allen, Kris.

    I need to hear these.

I don't really see either one of these as being a good winner. Again, Jessica lacks maturity and experience and I think she needs time to grow up as a person and then bring that to her art. P2 would get more of what he wanted, musically, if he didn't win, and I think he needs to not be rushed, either. He needs to go on the tour for whatever portion of it he can, recover, and then think about moving forward with music.

I know I'm biased, because she was my favorite, but I still think Skylar Laine would have gotten the biggest boost from winning.

Well, the Nokia Theater certainly did not work as well as the regular Idol home as far as sound goes. Also, I think both of the finalists' voices lost some texture and strength along the way. The music mix for "Movin Out" was a cacophanous mess as compared to the first time around, but he still pulled it off well. "Stand by Me" was a little ho hum but better than Jessica's insipid "I Have Nothing"- poor girl had nowhere interesting to go on that song. Jess did wonderfully on "The Prayer" but the first go round was still better- her voice was richer back then with more character. Winner's singles were both fairly blah, didn't think Jessica's was anything that special but it moved along well enough. Phillip's song was just flat out irritating in its Mumford/Avett ripoffness. Overall this finale show was a disaster and I'd rather they just picked their fave 3 songs from the season and re-do those. Simon Fuller can't pick songs for crap and the winners singles are stupid. That said, both of these contestants provided us with ample amounts of great moments this season, and I wish P2 great luck with his surgery. Also, looking forward to Elise and Hollie tomorrow!:kickass:

I thought both original songs were mediocre, at best. The standing O and praise for Philip was  over the top and not deserved.

So, Randy says P2's last song was "brilliant" and "genius." Should those adjectives REALLY be thrown around that easily???

I saw nothing extraordinary about P2's song at all. In fact, I spent most of the time trying to figure out just where, exactly, it would fit on radio ... the stations are all so genre-specific these days with such short playlists. Was it pop ... a bit country ... crossover something?? Not sure. Whatever the genre, it was quite ordinary, imo.

I don't care who wins this. Don't expect to hear much of either of them in the future. Judges sure threw Jessica under the bus with the standing O and over-the-top raving about Philip, though. Will be interesting to see whether it backfires on them.

    Round One:

Phillip sings "I Hate Nothing" by Whitney Houston

Jessica sings "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King

Now THAT would have been a fair fight!

    Loved this bit from votefortheworst.com:

I had to miss tonight's show due to having to deal with major family/teen drama, but it sounds like I didn't miss much.

I am pulling for a P2 win (which, with my track record, means that JeZzica will win :wall: ) - from what I've read here and on other sites' PBP, she was competent yet predictable - The Prayer was good but nowhere near what she did earlier this season, did yet another too-mature song in the overused, tired I Have Nothing, and her coronation song was a flaming pile of poo. As for Phillip, he was snoozy on Stand By Me, did well on Movin' Out but the accompaniment sucked ass, and did really well on the coronation song.

It's been impossible to get through on the phones to vote for him, but that likely has a lot to do with being in Georgia, where the most of the entire state is pulling for him to win. Things should get interesting after the West Coast airing, when the cheating votes from the Philippines start coming in via Skype and Vonage :blah:.

There's a really interesting (and Looooong) article about 70 of the previous finalists on AI and where they are now at The Daily Beast that's definitely worth the read.

Quoting, in case you try to deny having posted it after tomorrow night...

ETA: Stunned at the judges' critique of Jessica's original song. When during this entire season has she done anything other than pop? All of a sudden she's "urban?" The song was dreck, but that's hardly her fault.

I agree that Phil's single is hard to imagine on the radio. Maybe it will be arranged differently when recorded. As is, it's way too folksy for Top 40 or alternative but not country enough for country.

Let's see. She's covered Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Luther Vandross, Jennifer Holliday, Jazmine Sullivan, and Alicia Keys. Pretty R&B/Urban if you asked me.

Phil's last song reminded me of another song...I can't quite put my finger on it. ETA: I figured it out. It actually sounds like a hodgepodge of Mumford and Sons' latest album, particularly Awake My Soul.

Ah well, America (and the judges) will get their wish. The David Cook 4.0 will win and fade into oblivion. I've got high hopes for Jessica (still can't believe they didn't stand up for The Prayer. That was beautiful).

I think that you and the shoppers at the mall are all safe.

I do think that Bebe Chez definitely has the most vocal talent, but I also definitely think that WGWG will win.

This kind of reminds me of the Kris/Adam finale. Kris was more my taste, but I thought Adam was much more vocally talented. It's a similar situation here. P2 is more my taste, but Jessica is more vocally talented.

I think we have a different situation here. Kris was the WGWG from Arkansas who they didn't want to win. Here, Jessica may not have been treated fairly with the song assignments (especially with the coronation songs), but it's to the benefit of the WGWG from Georgia. Honestly, I don't think they were trying to influence the voting with the bad song choices for Jessica, with their criticims of her "choice" of the coronation of the song, or with the ridiculous standing ovation and tongue bath for P2 at the end. I think they already know that P2 is going to win and want people to think he deserves it.

I think Jessica is the better singer. But I also think P2 did very well tonight. He celebrated his contempt for melody in a very good way. Phillip's single was suited to him and reminded me of the type of song that is played on some adult alternative radio stations, but Idols don't really get played on those stations, so they're going to have to think of a different approach for his album. Something more AC.

I actually liked Phillip's 3rd song. It's the first coronation song I actually liked from Idol. That style is up my alley. I might even consider buying it, which I have never done before with any Idol contestant. Jess' coronation song is horrible. They gave her the crappier song. Phillip is gonna win this hands down. Even all the voters in the Phillipines can't make Jess win. I thought both finalists sing the same coronation song. When did this change? You used to be able to tell which finalist they wanted to win because the coronation song would suit one contestant more than the other.

First happened in S7 with the Davids. S8, Kris and Allen were both saddled with that horrid Kara song, S9 they decided to make Lee and Crystal sing covers as their winner songs most likely because of the negative feedback resulting from the Kara song, and then they returned back to this format last year with Lauren and Scotty.

I think all the coronation songs so far have been pretty shi**y. P2's is a tiny bit less shi**y than usual but still not good. Why do the contestants have to put that crap out as their 1st singles? David Cook's was especially horrid but Jessica's is even worse.

I hated both of those songs SO MUCH. First, you have "I Love You This Big," which, just, really? And then there was "Like My Mother Does," and then the camera pans to Lauren's mom...and that was another  moment.

Go figure that it was arguably the most successful lol (not sure how well Kelly's A Moment Like This" did).

But nobody will ever "top" that Kara song as the most horrid.

    Speaking of Kris and Adam:

I just checked out Kris's new album and the first 3/4 of it really great. Pure pop ear-candy bliss. The last 1/4 kinda drags into sleepy HAC territory, but overall a great effort.

I don't think he'll ever be a John Mayer or Jason Mraz sized seller, but if he can squeeze in between the numbers that Gavin Degraw and Mat Kearney get, he'll be just fine.

And congrats to Adam for hitting #1 on the Billboard Albums chart. Quite an achievement. His new album is fantastic as well. He's got a bunch of sounds on there that's very cool and unlike most Top 40 artists out there today. Good for him.
