I'm excited because it's "Songs from the 1980's"!!
I hope they don't pick a bunch of stoopid drippy ballads.
Yeah, me too.
Gwen Stefani is mentoring.
A songlist was posted by Idol on FB but not who was singing what. I saw one or two horribly cliched ballads that I am sure Sanchez snapped up but also saw some fun and interesting choices.
Deandre sounds very good, but he bores me. It's all hair flipping and weird dancing...
Deandre getting the unneccessary tongue bathing from the judges. I don't get it. The tone was off to me. Didn't like it.
at Ryan trying to sing.
I thought I knew every song ever from the 80s. I did not recognize Deandre's Debarge song.
ETA: I hope Elise does Hot Blooded and not I Wanna Know What Love Is.
I think you willed it to happen!
Elise is uncharacteristically, horribly off-pitch. Nothing like last week.
Its okay honey, no one sounds good singing this song.
Jennifer um... what?
at Steven's critique, it was incomprehensible!
You could, sadly, see that freight train coming from 100 miles away .
And it was....awful . Painfully so. She better pray someone tanks epically, otherwise she's going to get the boot.
Good god, why didn't she pull out the Alison Moyet (much like Adele, only better) songbook? She would have freaking killed "All Cried Out" or "Love Resurrection"
Just tuning in to see Colton and Skylar doing "Islands in the Stream," originally by Kenny and Dolly, I think? Doing a decent job. Skylar sounds good, not a shouty as usual, and he's doing a great job of harmonizing with her.
What exactly is the point of these duets?
Best duet since Allison and Adam -- I really enjoyed that!
I thought Colton and Skylar were cute.
You didnt like the duet Crystal and Lee did? as one dimensional as Lee's voice was, I loved the duet that they did!
Filler. I prefer it to the types of filler they normally use. I'm all for seeing more of the contestants performing, rather than pointless fluff and miscellaneous BS.
Couldn't they just go back to hour long shows?
Nope. That would mean fewer ads and less cash.
Phillip with Genesis' "That's All." Not a great vocal. He really doesn't have much range at all, as has been pointed out in previous weeks. This is his worst performance yet, IMO.
Something seemed off about that entire performance...
I usually like Phillip, but this song is not working for me. Not sure if it's him or if it's the fact that I hate Genesis and this song in particular.
i thought this song was lame when it was new
on the bright side, he sounds better than the original /faint praise]
they allow family members to play with each other now?!
Ooh, Pointer Sisters!
I heard Deandre and Pointer Sisters and immediately thought...
that sneaker commercial was longer than the whole show
DeBarge, Foreigner, and (shudder), Genesis?
Tonight's episode is particularly painful to watch - I was a teen during the 80s, and most of the mainstream "pop" is some of the worst music of the '80s. The good stuff was either underground, were one-hit wonders, or had minor success in the US (being much more popular in the UK, Europe, and Australia).
Hollie and Deandre doing "I'm So Excited!" Sounding pretty good and doing authentically horrible 80's dancing!
It's a little mellow for this song though. It's like they drank wine coolers before the show rather than overdosing on caffeine pills. Everybody knows you gotta be hopped up on caffeine to do this song justice.
Yet another nightmare song from my adolescence , along with Neutron Dance.
love hearing hollie singing something upbeat and deandre finally doesnt sound like his nuts are in a vise
Where is all the hair metal?
My favorite Pointer Sisters song is Automatic.
Automatic is a jam!
