One lost performance I've been searching for is Gary Beacom, skating entirely to recorded birdsongs. I've heard of this performance, but never seen it.

Also, although I have seen Gary's performance with Gia Guddat with skate on their hands before, it isn't on youtube now, and I'd love to see it again!.

Here's a German recording of it, from the 1996 EISGALA in Mainz Gary Beacom + Gia Guddat

A competition piece, but even with the slightly botched lift, it's pretty enough (and voidy enough) to be included here...

Christina Beier + William Beier (GER) Hawaiian OD (2010)
Coaches: Rene Lohse, Martin Skotnicky; Choreographer: Jutta Deutschland

This one is fun from Shawn Sawyer. Love what he does with the briefcase.

Thank you! That is one wild & crazy routine, for sure.

Btw, the Duchesnay's TV special based on The Planets by Holst, which included skating, ballet and swimming probably qualifies as voidy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YT4FBMm2W0Y

and Torvill & Dean's Six Gestures (Bach Cello Suites) with Yo Yo Ma

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EF4Ft9x3whE

and Rahkamo & Kokko skating in the official video of Enigma's Beyond the Invisible

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-w3WVWc5o0

is a favorite of mine, and beyond voidy.

Wow thanks, never seen this one before. Although I was  at Simon Reed claiming he'd never seen Shawn before, even though he commentated on him at the 2006 Olympics.

Thanks Prancer. I'm astounded that Kurt and Dick actually read message boards.

I hadn't seen that routine of Shawn Sawyer's before! Thank you!

Here's some other retro routines that I found memorable:

Debi Thomas & Vladimir Kotin 1986 Goodwill Games Billy Jean EX
At the time, this routine seemed the very spirit of Goodwill.

Igor Bobrin 1981 Worlds EX A Cowboy's Work is Never Done

Tonya Harding 1987 NHK When You Wish Upon a Star EX

Klimova & Ponomarenko 1987 EX Worlds Warming Up for the Ballet

Too bad Engi & Toth's Muppet Movie EX is not on youtube. They did it in full Kermie & Miss Piggy outfits!

There is another Gary/Gia routine to "I Think I'm losin' my marbles" by Mendelsohn Joe which predates this. If I recall correctly, they were in black and white outfits and had skates onhands and feet. I think they did it at a Sun Valley show as well as other places. I used to have it on tape but can no longer play it so sorry, I can'y post it!

    Mine, as well.
Rahkamo and Kokko trained with Torvill and Dean in the early years of their career.
They had first-hand knowledge, gained from the master!

LOVE it!! As a Shawn uber, I was pleasantly surprised to find a program I hadn't seen!! Well, I've seen the SOI version but that seems to be a little different.

Thanks to those who have posted these new batches of clips.

This 1999 Sarabande FD is what made me a DenStas fan. :inavoid:, even now, one of my favorite FDs from anyone, ever. :smokin:

For anyone who doesn't realize it. that is the "lost" T and D program; thought never to be seen, as it wasn't recorded for Broadcast.
This performance apparently was privately filmed due to the presence of Phillp Glass, the composer of "Akhnaten".

Did anyone watch the Progressive Skating and Gymnastics Spectacular? It was super voidy, start to finish. From Catalina Ponor's "Leave your hat on" routine, to Kurt Browning's noir routine. It was interesting but weird.

I would loosely equate it to transcendent. It comes from something Dean said referring to skaters getting so into the skating and the music and the choreo that it is as though they are skating in a void, as though the rules and judges are not there.

I'll nominate this long-time favorite, Robin Cousins Satan Takes a Holiday from World Pros (1984 or 85, I think).
    http://youtu.be/7a7sSuPpmcc

I used to go to this pro competition nearly every year and the house exploded after this one like I've rarely heard. (You can't really hear it on the video.)

That performance is from the 1985 World Challenge of Champions EX, Paris.

His performance in Landover, at the World Professional Championships was even better, IMO.
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be available on YouTube.

Whilst Voidy programs are no doubt 'ARTISTIQUE' in Toller Cranston fashion. I'd like to think Voids have expanded over the years to account for a number of different factors:

    Here is my dictionary:
The Uber Void: DRAMTIC, over the top choreography that is expressed with uber oomph, a costume that makes Johnny Weir look tame and a music cut that makes you feel like you might be on acid:
Enter Toller Cranston with a disco version of Firebird OTT CH that he kicks the shit out of..

The Originality Void: Originality demonstrated through choreography, Jumping style or MITF. Every now and then a skater comes along and does something that has never been done....like, say, pretend to be a jewel thief who pulls a diamond bracelet out half way through the program and includes a police chase. Sometimes the originality void even demonstrates teknik!! :respec:

Other voids include any of the above elements and the occasional non teknik performance that manages to hold your attention despite the fact that the person can barely skate! Accordingly:
The Mad Music Void usually accompanied by a headband of some sort and relative no teknik ;)

The OES VOID: Usually comes with a voidy style (see pink hair and nose piercings), an element of inappropriateness (see crotch grabbing brother and sister), original verging on ridiculous CH, obligatory WTF music and NO TEKNIK

Slutty Voids: Because sex sells. Slutty in CH, Costume and IN...
The Vulgar void:scream: :respec: Lick It  strips half way through and bends over backwards to show her arse to the judges ...

The Unexplained Void: It could be the black bra, it could be the footballer turned skater, it could be the fact that they can barely skate but are still compelling, whatever it is, it's freaking Voidy!

Voidy Personality Traits Babs' Death Stare at the end of the program!
Anne Sophie Calvez' inability to look anything more than GRIM in the K&C
    My LAAAACE is Broke WAAAAAH

Because Olga Bestandigova managed to be voidy in 2000 with her brother, retired from the sport and came back last year to be completely voidy again for completely different reasons. I would like to officially announce her as the voidiest skater of all time. Thank you and goodnight!
