Alexis Miart was doing a stop, twisted his ankle and all his body weight fell on the twisted ankle. He has seriously damaged his ankle, he has a fracture which will need to be operated on and he won't be able to set foot on the ice for at least 2 months.

What a shame! :( Best wishes to him for a full recovery.

France's Zahorski/Miart were 4th in Junior Dance at 2011 Junior Worlds -- link to their ISU bio (they are ISU Junior age-eligible through the 2012-13 season): http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00012292.htm

That sucks. Zahorski & Miart are such a promising team (not to mention Alexis is hotter than hell) and were supposed to kick ass at the JGP grand prix, this injury basically takes them out of JGP. So maybe they could opt for an early move up to Seniors and hope for the TEB host spot.

    That's extremely sad. :(

They definitely are the future of French ice dance.

I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can get back on ice as soon as possible.

Great to know that they still have 2 seasons left in Juniors (thanks for that info, Sylvia).

It's worse than first thought : ruptured ligaments, fracture and dislocation!

Poor guy! They did so well this past season, hopefully he is a good healer and they will be able to get back on the ice soon.

Ouch! I don't know enough about medicine to know whether or not this is an injury he can come back from. He's young and fit which always helps.

Here is their free skate from Jr. Worlds if you want ample evidence of talented Alexis Miart is. Hopefully he will be able to recover from those compound injuries. :(

The operation was very successful without any additional complications.

The surgeon has said that he should be back on the ice within 3 to 3 and a half months, depending on how well the re-education physiotherapy of the ruptured ligaments goes.

There will be further surgery required at a later date to remove the screws, but that can be done at any time, so could be done in the off-season.

Alexis would like to thank everyone for all their kind messages of support!

This season they will compete at Senior level.

Thank you for the update on Alexis' surgery. I hope the recovery process goes as well as the surgery. :)

    Interesting.

Wouldn't it makes sense for them to try to do the Junior Worlds again or they won't have enough time to prepare?

Does not look like they will be ready for TEB. France has 3 spots for Euros and I really hope to see them in Sheffield. She is from England and used to skate in Sheffield, so it has to be motivating for her to be there.

I really liked them at last Jr. Worlds. To the point of wondering if they might become one of my favorite Dance couple. Hope he recovers completely, and soon.

    A quick progress update:
Alexis has had his plaster cast removed today.
On Monday he will go to a top residential centre which specializes in the rehabilitation of such injuries in top-level sports people.
(We're not quite sure what the footballers and rugby players are going to make of a an ice dancer!)
He will be at the centre for between 2 to 4 weeks, depending on his progress.

Thanks for the update! I was actually wondering how he was doing! Hope his time at the rehab centre is beneficial! Sure he will be able to teach the footballers and rugby players a thing or two!
