I have a gripe about Arrow. Now I love some of the silliest TV shows ever but this current Malcolm Merlin story line is rubbing me the wrong way. They are trying too hard to rehabilitate the character ASAP. And all because nobody wants to hurt poor little rich girl Thea's feelings. It's apparently not such a big deal that Merlin killed 500+ people including his own son, then had Thea kill Sarah, set up and nearly killed Oliver as long as he is really sorry. And then there is how Oliver survived what looked like a fatal wound, and a fall off a very steep cliff while half naked in a blizzard. We all know Ra's Al Ghul dies in the first Dark Knight so Oliver isn't going to kill him. No matter how much I love John Barrowman, it isn't enough to save the show for me.

I've heard that Constantine has been cancelled. I've also heard that it has not been cancelled.

Quite shocking. I must admit that I have never quite gotten over his treatment of my beloved Jennifer Love Hewitt, so I kinda stopped watching his show. Also, probably like him, I was just getting tired of the US media's coverage of their own government. Even though he provided a critical voice/perspective, it was still too depressing for me.

Any possible replacements? Samantha Bee still on the show?

ETA: Johnny & Tara!!! j/k

Samantha Bee is still a correspondent. So is Jason Jones. But, I seem that more as "correspondents" than the "anchor." I love Jessica Williams, but I also don't see her as an anchor. John Oliver did an excellent job when he spent the summer filling in for Jon Stewart, but he's at HBO now. And Larry Wilmore just started on his own show, which is very good. So, I'm not sure there are any obvious replacements.

Maybe Tina Fey?

Tina Fey or Amy Poehler would be GREAT! :40beers:

I will be forever grateful to Jon and crew and "The West Wing" for getting me through the Bush/Cheney years. I don't think he can be replaced but I hope his successor proves me wrong.

Looks like the 2014-2015 thread has hit the 1,000 post mark, so I thought I'd bump up this thread. We're just a summer away from the start of the new season anyway. :D

I was wondering if anybody else has been watching American Crime on Thursday nights? I think it's one of the best made TV shows ever. The editing is unique in that you get to see a character from various angles and even from different times of the scene while you hear the dialogue filling you in on everything you need to know. The writing is phenomenal, making everyone multi-dimensional when usually the "heroes" are the fully fleshed out characters and the bad guys are one-note. But then this show doesn't make anyone cartoon-ish, so nobody is angelic and nobody is rotten to the core. Just people at all different stages of life and growth. And Felicity Huffman is just hitting it out of the park with her character...she is beyond amazing. I hope she gets an Emmy nod (or even a win) for this performance. :respec:

So regarding "Dance Moms": Is it always Abby Lee's great accomplishment when her team wins? Is it always her team's fault when they do not take first place? Does she ever own second place or worse?

It wasn't a final list - ABC hasn't made any announcements yet, and other shows are still pending. The link's gone now, but I think it was a "so far" list.

I'm sure the list of renewed shows will be updated as the season ends and new fall shows are announced.

I've noticed the major network reality shows are starting to fizzle in the ratings though. The Amazing Race and Survivor use to grab twice the ratings they get today.

And I'm a bit surprised The CW is sticking with The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. They've gotten stale.

I recall the days when a show like American Idol had two new threads a week on FSU - for the performance shows and then the results shows - and now they're down to one thread per season. As I understand it, reality-type shows on cable networks are also way, way down.

I think some of the reality shows like AR would do a lot better if they went back to their original model of one season per year. I know I started watching a lot less of AR once it went to two seasons a year. It was just too much.

^^ I agree with that too. As much as I love The Amazing Race and Survivor and Dancing with the Stars, I wish they were only on once per season, not twice per season. I'd like it if Survivor was in the Fall and The Amazing Race in the Spring on CBS in the same time slot. That way there would only be a short break from end of Survivor to start of Amazing Race, yet it still would be all season.

There's just too much choice out there in general, and DVRs have almost made it worse - you end up filling them up with all the stuff you want to watch, but then never get to it because there are so many other shows you want to watch. And the internet doesn't help - I was recording Revenge in the fall, meaning to do a bingewatch at some point, but major spoilers kept popping up so I just gave up on the whole thing. I've also been a die-hard Survivor fan since the first season, but I can only keep up with a handful of shows at a time. Frankly it was rather liberating to let it go :)
