2013 gymnastics starts this Friday, finally, after a looooooooong (or seemingly long) off-season!

Who's planning on attending some meets?
Who do you think will surprise us?
Who do you think will win it all this year?
    Who's EXCITED???

I'm going to place my pre-season bets on Florida taking it all this year. UCLA will need to step things up with Peszek out all season with an achilles tear. As usual, I'm expecting the SEC to dominate everybody, they'll have the most teams highest up in the rankings. My wish is for the Big Ten teams to have a great season... last year was a bit rough for most of the teams.

I'm planning on attending a few Florida meets, but my big exciting trip this year is going to be the Big Ten Championships, which Michigan State is hosting. With the expansion of the Big Ten, it'll be 10 years until a school gets to host them again, so I'm going this year while I can!

Just for reference, I've compiled links to all of the team's websites, rosters, and schedules for easy look-up.

Tragically I'm not in Michigan any more so I can't go to any of their meets but I will be watching them as much as possible on tv/internet streaming. I'm hoping they are able to field a full team all year this year. :shuffle:

I'm also hoping I'll actual have someone on FSU to discuss men's NCAA with this year! :drama: I'm expecting a good year from the Michigan men. They'll probably get stronger as the year goes on with Sam Mikulak starting the season recovering from an injury again. He did only Rings at Michigan's intrasquad scrimmage in December and did only a partial dismount but he'll have more than a month between that scrimmage and the first meet. As always, Michigan is going to have to remember that the goal is to stay on the apparatus in order to live up to their preseason potential.

I will be attending most of, if not all, LSU home meets starting in 2 days against North Carolina! LSU should be challenging for a Super 6 spot this year, we have a ton of talent. I think Florida should win it all but it will be a tough battle with an experienced Bama team. No team has the talent Florida possesses.

I didn't realize VaZam was still around, but she must have red shirted a season after getting injured. She was so promising when she first came onto the scene, am hoping she has a good Sr year and goes out on a high note.

LSU set a season opener record, scoring a 196.075, I think, and won the meet. I know it was slightly above a 196. They absolutely rocked floor. We have to have some of the most difficulty on floor as a team. Savona could anchor on tons of major teams and she was our 3rd gymnast in the lineup with a 1 1/2 through to double tuck, a full-in as her second pass and a double pike to close. Courville scored a 9.975 with a gorgeous floor routine and Hall brought the house down again this year with a 9.950 Hall will score that 10 soon enough. She was a little short on a couple of landings and the judges still threw out a big score, she wins them over with her performance and the crowd being so into it. On floor LSU has 2 double layouts, a double arabian, a full in and 1 1/2 through to double tuck. Pretty amazing stuff for the first meet out. Bars was LSU's weakness with 2 falls to open the rotation but I think repetition and conditioning will only help as the season goes on. Beam was very solid, 6 for 6 with only a few balance checks. Courville nailed her routine but still takes a long time setting up her big skills. This team has tons of potential.

Next week LSU hosts Florida! I can not wait. I was hoping Florida was coming here this year, they are so loaded with talent that I don't even care if LSU wins, I just want to see some of those gymnasts in person.

    Cancun classic score:
    University of Michigan 196.575
    BYU 194.475
    Oregon State University 193.600

I'm THRILLED with this start for Michigan! Even if the score is a bit inflated, still wow. I really hope they can build on it. Oregon State was ranked ahead of us so it wasn't as if the competition wasn't theoretically good. They really rocked floor:

    Natalie Beilstein 9800
    Stephanie Coberth 9850
    Katherine Zurales 9.850
    Reema Zakharia 9.800
    Sachi Sugiyama 9.900
    Joanna Sampson 9.900

Went to the Florida meet last night... they're looking crazy good. :) Bridget Sloan started off her Gator career with a 9.925 on vault. This team is so stacked they sat out Sloan and Alaina Johnson on FX, and Kytra Hunter on VT.

    Hi Fridge Break,
Thanks for posting all of the schedules and rosters! This is a great reference that I will definitely use.

I was at the Florida meet on Friday night too. I agree that the are off to a fantastic start this year. I probably won't make it to another meet until the end of the season. Would like to go to senior night (last meet of the season), since two of our favorites are graduating this year, as well as regionals in April...since they will be held in Gainesville this year...Yay!

Did you go to the meet and greet afterwards? Was excited to meet Bridget Sloan; she was very nice. What a great addition she is to the team. I enjoyed seeing how much fun she was having during the meet, as well as the other new freshman. And Kytra's tumbling is amazing. Last year and this year, I found myself saying "wow" after every tumbling pass.

I've gone to a few meets at NC State before. Later in the season, LSU travels to take on NC State on March 15th. I think I might go to that meet. It's a tough decision because NC State hosts Georgia two days later on March 17th. LSU is so talented though and I've never seen them in person before.

I didn't go to the meet & greet after, Mr. FB and I had long days before that and were ready to get back home. Glad to hear that you had a great time! I'm not sure how many other meets I'll be able to be at this season, either, mainly because I don't know my work schedule, but I am going to try my best to get there for Regionals! The championship weeks are my absolute favorites of the season, the energy in the arena is fantastic! :cheer2:

Did anyone see that Cal upset ALL of Arizona, Kentucky, and Auburn?? All 3 of them are ranked! What a great start for them! Lot's of 9.8's being put up. Also noticed that New Hampshire and Rutgers were putting up some nice scores this afternoon.

Zamarripa got a 10 from one judge on FX! Also Sarah Miller from Ohio State did on VT yesterday! Craaaaazy that the judges are throwing those out in the very first weekend.

I was thinking of going to those two meets too - I moved to Raleigh from the Charlotte area a few months ago and was wanting to go to an NC State meet this year. After seeing videos from this weekend's meets, I REALLY want to see Lloimincia Hall's floor routine in person!

Is anyone else doing the NCAA fantasy gym through the Couch Gymnast? I'm in the Southwestern Conference for fantasy gym.

I would probably go to either the NC State or Rutgers meet from the list you have there. Regardless of which teams you end up seeing, I think you will enjoy going. One great thing is that tickets are so inexpensive compared to skating. Florida meets are only $4 to get in, and kids are free. Compared to skating, I feel like I have gotten a deal!

LSU beat Florida! It was an INCREDIBLE meet that came down to the last 2 gymnasts. Unfortunately Florida had to count a fall on beam and LSU was able to sneak away with the win. I have never seen LSU look so good and to think it is only the 2nd meet of the season and a lot of gymnasts are not even being used. We finally have depth, not to the degree some other teams have but at least we have some. Savona can hopefully come in on bars soon and up our potential there. Vault is always good for us, beam looks so solid and floor is an absolute show stopper. LSU can compete with any team in the nation on floor and we actually beat Florida on FX.

LSU scored a 196.875 in their 2nd meet. Crazy! I think Florida was a 196.575 so without the fall they were looking at a 197!

I noticed LSU only has one Senior this year! They are set for few years. Where is Randi Lau? Did she get injured? Looking at the scores it seems like there were some great routines from both LSU and Florida tonight.

I'm hoping to get up to one of the Ohio State home meets this year and I think they're hosting one of the regional events again this year so I am DEFINITELY heading up there for that. I went a few years ago and had an absolute blast. I'm excited to see what the Buckeyes do this year! They have a pretty solid team and after making Nationals last year, I think their confidence is pretty high. I'm SO excited they're hosting another regional and this time, I will make sure my camera batteries are fully charged because they died halfway through the meet last time! :(

    Go Bucks! :cheer2:

Lau is injured but I don't think it is anything too serious. Honestly, though, I am not sure what lineups she would be a lock for. She is going to have to fight for a spot in this deep team. Ranzy is finally on LSU's team and she is also injured. She will boost LSU's score, especially on vault, big time. Hopefully whatever injury she has will be healed soon.

Word on the street is that Lindenwood's coach up and left after just one meet... Very sad news for this brand new program.

Michigan State is falling apart at the seams at the moment. Barely over 47 on the bars. Every year I'm always so optimistic that this team is going to do great things, and they always fall short. :( I'm not writing the season off yet, but they'll be lucky to pull out a 192 in their opener. :(

Season openers can be horrible disgusting things. I have seen LSU struggle to post a 194 or so and then end the season with a string of high 196s and even some 197s. I wouldn't worry unless the team is eaten up by injuries.

I know when teams are at home there is almost always some score inflation. However, UCLA's scoring at home has become a joke to me. It's just insane how much they over-score the UCLA gymnasts. I'm not anti-UCLA, it's just what I see with my eyes when I watch the meets online. I didn't see this meet and haven't seen any videos yet, but it seems like the scoring followed the same pattern.

Are the rankings by score now (after the pre-season)? Because Boise State was 15, and they've yet to compete. Is that why they fell out of the Top 25?

Yes, the rankings are strictly by average score right now. Most teams have just 1 or 2 scores counting, Boise State is one of the few schools who has not competed yet, so that's why they're not listed. Later on in the season (usually about 7 or 8 weeks in), the rankings are determined by Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) which is formulated by a team's top-6 scores, with at least 3 of them coming from away meets, dropping the highest (whether home or away) and then averaging the remaining 5.
