The biggest sporting event in the world this year and nobody wants to organise a boycott. (((Athletics)))

    Maybe Daegu can host it?

North Korea may boycott the event, relations between the Koreas are improving but may still be good enough to for Northern to come to Daegu. We should pick a country that is very neutral, Switzerland I think is a good idea, may be Geneva can host the event...36 hours is ample time for the swiss to organise this event.

With all of the doping charges I am surprised that there is anyone left to compete.

Ugh complete bomb by Steve Lewis in pole vault qualifications. Not a great start for Team GB.

Yeah, Steve Lewis does either really well or bombs. I guess today was a bombing one.

Mark English (IRL) out in first round. He just left it too late. Ah well, he's young and hopefully can learn from this.

    Two finals today - women's marathon and men's 10000m

Osagie and Rimmer did well in 800 quals, as the build up for both didn't sound all that positive. Just saw Lewis's interview and didn't know his Mum had passed away. Sounds like a rough year for him :(

Doesn't look like very pleasant running weather in Moscow. Reminds me of Osaka in 2007. :yikes:

Please, please, please BBC, can you fire/retire Brendan Foster and just have Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe doing the commentary?

Edna Kiplagat (KEN) wins women's marathon, Valeria Straneo (ITA) gets silver and Kayoko Fukushi (JPN) claims bronze.

Kiplagat is the first woman to successfully defend the world championships title.

I seriously despise Universal Sports. Way to keep nearly every Oly sport broadcast from most Americans, aside from the occasional NBC showing.

Interesting to note the number of Russian athletes missing from the championships

Yuri Borzinovsky : former 800 m olympic champion, he seemed to injured and there is an interview with him on the official iaaf youtube page.
Tatyana Chernova : Heptathlon world champion, injured
Julia Zaripova : Olympic 3000 m steeplechase Champion, ligament tear...

Except for Yuri, other two i will wait after the world championships to see for any interesting news, sceptic in me says we will hear more about them. If Zaripova fails dope test, that would really sad.

Anybody who names their child English Gardner deserves a big slap. :p

No great surprises in the morning session. Finals tonight are men's 100m, 20km walk and conclusion of decathlon. Medals will be handed out for the women in the long jump, discus and 10000m.

James Dasaolu third in second semi, but may have done enough to qualify as a fastest loser.
