The first big competition, the Moscow Open championships (junior level competition) started today! There are some promising skaters competing. Past competitors includ Radionova, Sotnikova, Sotskova, etc.

Top 3 in each discipline - I included the video links when available.

    Junior Ladies:
    1 Elizaveta Iushchenko 58.86 (3T+3T, 3Lo, 2A , no negative GOE overall)
    2 Victoria Bezrukova 54.98 (3S+3T, 3Lo, 2A)
    3 Valeria Evseeva 53.30 (3Lz+2T, 3Lo, 2A)
(Julia Li, who is listed to compete at the JGP Minsk, was 6th with 51.34. She landed Rippon 3Lz+2T, 3Lo, 2A)

    Junior Pairs
1 Kamila Gainetdinova / Ivan Bich 53.41 (2Tw, 3TTh, 2A - all clean, but only level 1 in the spin)
    2 Anastasia Halkina / Vladimir Arkhipov 44.73
    3 Anastasia Gubanova / Alexander Sintsov 44.15

    Junior Dance
    1 Betina Popova / Yuri Vlasenko 51.87
    2 Xenia Konkina / Georgy Revia 46.83
    3 Anna KUBLIKOVA / Mikhail Homyachenok 45.36

Iuschenko impressed me - good technical content and I thought she expressed the music well. I think that if she skates well in the LP she should certainly be given a JGP as she could qualify for the final. She's currently listed as an alternate in the last two JGPs.

On another note, Viktoria Volchkova had a student here, Sofia Istomin, who I found super adorable and charming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaa6A62FGLU
She exudes such joy when she skates!

Iuschenko won the competition with 166± overall. She scored 107.41 in the free. Bezrukova also scored above 107 and had the highest TES. Li was 10th in the free. I think Iuschenko will definitely get a JGP assignment, given Li's results and that Maria Stavitskaia is reportedly injured.

Men's SP was today, but iI'm on my phone and too lazy to copy and paste.

If Li was so bad, I don't think she deserves JGP event. It will be just a waste.

I agree. If I were the Russian fed, I'd assign the remaining spots this way:

    SVK: Sakhanovich & Proklova
    POL: Medvedeva & Ogoreltseva
    BLR: Proklova & Iuschenko
    CZE: Sotskova & ??
    EST: Sakhanovich & Iuschenko

That way, no one has back to back events. I don't know if this is possible - haven't looked as who is alternate to where; and I don't know if you can add alternates this late.

Oooh, Iuschenko, I remember her! I saw her skate in an interclub competition 3 years ago. She was a novice back then, and tiny! I remember even her doubles were underrotated! Nice to see she's grown up into a great skater. And amazingly quickly!

ETA: Out of interest I did a bit of digging in the Finnish skating news thread and found what I posted about Iuschenko back then: "And then there was also a little Russian girl who I thought was really robbed in PCS :drama: but that's another story... " I remember her coach was indeed pissed at her marks and I agreed with coach. :p

Even found the protocols from that event and am having such flashbacks! She's really come a long way since these protocols. SP FS

    My suggestion:

    SVK: Sakhanovich & Proklova
    POL: Medvedeva & Ogoreltseva
    BLR: Proklova & Iuschenko
    CZE: Sotskova & Sakhanovich
EST: Iuschenko & Stavitskaia (gives Stavitskaia a month to recover from injury if possible). Or if not Stavitskaia, they should give a chance to Gerasimova or Titushkina. I find it unbelievable that girls who got 3rd and 4th last year (Gerasimova) and 3rd and 5th (Titushkina) at JGP are considered 'not being good enough' because there is such a fight for the spots.

I agree about Sofia Istomina--she's really special (even among Russian junior ladies)! She's like a more polished version of Elena Radionova, but in both girls, there's both a natural showmanship and sheer joy in their skating. Love it!

    Thanks for finding the videos/results!

Love Iuschenko! :cheer: It looks like she skates confidently with good speed, inspired expression, and some good jumps. Does anyone know how old she is? Let's hope she gets a shot on the JGP, even if she "only" does a 3T+3T, it is good quality.

She is 13 (born January 2000),so she is eligible. She is currently an alternate for the last 2 JGP. Given that Stavitskaya is injured, Iushenko outperformed Li, and Kayumova didn't do well in hr first assignment, the chances of her getting an assignment are very good. There is precedent for this - last year Pogorilaya was the highest finishing junior lady at this competition and ended up getting a JGP, and the rest is history

I didn't watch the others, but the 3Lo on the back half of Sotnikova's combo was anything but clean.

Only in Russia can a skater I've never even heard of score 172 points. They just keep popping up.

She is only 15! She is just old enough to make the cut off for senior events. Hopefully she can get a senior B or some other minor international assignment, as she's not listed as an alternate for the JGP.

I find her PCS hard to decipher from the video (the constant shaking made me nauseous) but she did land 7 triples

As a fan of Adelina, I'm kinda anxious because her schedule seems too hard, with this competition this week and Lombardia Trophy next week. How come this hard?

I am surprised by the choices made by the Sotnikova team: 1) they have decided to use 3F+3Lo as the combination jump. The second jump is very likely to be called for UR, if not downgraded. 2) 3Lz as the solo jump will receive edge deduction as well, overall 2/3 jumps in sp will get -GOEs. Why don't the team try to change jumps in Sp to 3F+3T and 3L ?, I believe she has better chance to score with this layout.
