Rather not. Doing Swan Lake after Ashley and Mao has done it so well would make judges make comparison. I don't think she wants to use the same music as Mao did the last season.

so nice to see him back. great performance.
Japanese Nationals are going to be heartbreaking. So many talented young men and only 3 olympics spots - Takahashi, Hanyu, Kozuka, Oda, Mura and others :(

Chan's jump issues seem to be related to stamina rather than poor technique. His first 4-3 was beautiful. Remember he has trained at altitude in the past which he is no longer doing. I was impressed that the non-jump elements held together as well as they did given how clearly exhausted he was at the end of the skate. At least he didn't fall ;)

Ross Miner's FS is music by Michael W. Smith from his Glory CD per this Icenetwork article. He's fulfilling the rite of passage that all SCOB skaters must skate to Michael W. Smith at some point in their career. ;)

Love Paul and Islam's free dance. I loved their free dance last year. I really hope this is a good year for them...

Bobrova/Soloviev: I think that they are good dancers however there is something unpolished about them and it was evident even last season. He in particular seems like he rushes and when compared to skaters like Scott Moir, Andre Poje, he totally misses the boat on his body position, line and character of the music. This years material seems better than last year.

Paul/Islam: I think that it's sad that in order for them to really break into the top of the pack, they will ahve to distort their beautiful skating with 700million additional steps etc. Their programs are just mesmerizing. They look like they stepped right out of a dream to me. I was a fan of theirs last year with the Edith Pilaf SP they did. she's is gorgeous and he is everything to her as a partner and they look fabulous. They skate butter smooth and Pasquale gives them perfect material. I want to enjoy this team before they succumb to the mandates of COP in order to win.

While I liked Mao's Swan Lake and Ashley's Black Swan, I don't think they were untouchable. Adelina has the ballerina body type (long limbs; long arms, legs) and body line to pull it off.

Though, in my book, no one touches Sasha's Swan Lake. :swoon:

    I prefer Mao's and Ashley's to Sasha's.

Adelina was a baby ballerina when she was younger, but now she is more of a fiery athletic skater. Next to Gao and Kostner, her legs are not long at all, and she's not very tall either, so ballerina is not the best comparison. Physically she is more like Ashley.

She has good stretch and carriage on the ice, but I think she will do best with programs that show off her power, raw athleticism, and sassy personality. Girl has got spunk and it shouldn't be wasted with bland ballet programs (however if she wanted to channel crazy Natalie Portman in Black Swan, I think she could do so very convincingly.)

Warhorse notwithstanding, the music itself suits Hanyu IMO. This could be very :swoon:

I'm a little confused and shocked. While Hanyu was staying in Japan for Dreams on Ice and Fantasy on Ice, there was some news on his SP. It said his coaches were hesitating on keeping last season's, and he wanted a new SP. He said he knew he couldn't show the best of last SP at London Worlds, but still he wanted to show a new thing and Jeffrey Buttle had been thinking a lot about it for him. I was wondering which side had been convinced. And it's surprising FP is R&J again...
Maybe his injuries have not been healed yet?

Seems one of the most popular newspaper in Japan, Asahi-shinbun interviewed with Orser and it tweeted: https://twitter.com/asahi_sports/status/370069277987991552
My rough translation: About keeping Hanyu's SP, Oser comented "'(As he was) going to try the new one of a similar image, then I thought even keeping last season's SP would be good". Discussing with Hanyu who was going to try new one, he (and Hanyu) decided to keep his SP.

It sounds Oser offered to keep although Hanyu wanted to change at first.

It is unexpected... He talked he might make a new SP, because he loves challenging, want to do new things, Like already he decided to make new SP

and I thought he is a type of skater who feels unpleasant with reusing programs due to his past interviews

That SP for Verner sounds fun and should be a nice change of pace from all of the dramatik Russian music I expect to hear. I must not be a very good fan, because I didn't even remember he'd skated to those tangos back in 2009.

as we know, another romeo&juliet-music was lucky for him 2 seasons ago.

i like this music of nino rota, but it's just overused in figure skating and you have to do really well and great to catch my eye on a program with this music. we will see

2011 Euros? Not a great LP, but fairly decent overall and he medalled.

I like the sound of his SP, if he ever skates it well it could be a lot of fun.

He did well in the 10-11 season, 3rd at CoC, 1st at COR (ahead of Chan, who Zayaked, but still), 5th with decent skates at GPF, 3rd at Euros, 12th in a deep field at Worlds (not a great result for him, but his skates there were decent). So really it is not so far back that you have to dig to get good results from him. I also think he was pretty decent at Czech Nationals the past couple seasons, scoring like 150-160 in the FS. I think he can still do the jumps, the trouble is all in his head, and then injuries don't help either.

I expected to see a lot of "safe" music selections for an Olympic year, but I did not expect so many programs that reuse the skaters' own previous programs. Must be a new trend. So, the way things are going, by the time we get to 2018, skaters will skate to no music at all and just go through all their technical elements.

Why cannabalize other (previous) skaters' music when you can cannabalize your own?

    Belgium's @JorikHendrickx just tweeted:
"Let's announce my new music for the upcoming and Olympic season = SP : Caravan / LP : Rhapsody in Blue choreographed by Shanetta Folle !"

I like the Nina Rota soundtrack of Romeo and Julia most. I haven't seen that movie, but that music is lovely. I'm not tired of that one yet.

I disagree. I'm tired of Hanyu being slapped the ol' "classical" program. It's not him! It feels like they're trying to fit him into a mold or something.

The Notre Dame de Paris SP? Eh. :blah:

The Scriabin SP from 2011/12? Yes, that was him, but it was subtle. The Jeff Buttle SP from 2012/13 perfectly suits his body line and skating style, and it feels unique, and it's not flashy in an obvious way.

In an documentary about Hanyu I saw a couple months ago, Orser kept using Chan as the gold standard for which Yuzuru had to live up to. It's fair to admire, but everyone should be allowed to not try and be Chan.

Let people have their own style! :soapbox:

You're tired... me too honestly  problem is that Hanyu has said that he can get into this old classical program to Romeo very easily, so he evidently feels that it suits his style, regardless of us liking it or not. Being good at or liking classical programs doesn't mean that things like Parisian Walkways are not his style as well, it just means that he has different facets in his still-budding skating style, and likely his personality as well.
One thing I have to correct you on, though, is what you wrote about the documentary. I've watched it more than once and I'm pretty sure Orser has never mentioned Hanyu (or whoever) having to take Patrick's style as a gold standard  in fact, the whole focus of that feature is skating skills, and Orser talks at length about of Hanyu has to work on them because if he trustes his blades he can do whatever he wants on the ice. It's talking about skating skills that he mentions Patrick as a standard, not style.
