The mascot for the London Olympics is going to be revealed tonight on The One Show on BBC1 from 7pm.

Sebastian Coe talks about it here. I'm none the wiser. :shuffle:

Still whatever it is it can't be any worse than the 2012 logo. Or Izzy. Can it? :scream:

No and no. The London 2012 logo was migraine inducing when inveiled (is it still as nauseating?), and Iggy was certainly a preamble to a relatively bad Games.

    I. Have. No. Idea.

The naming is good - Wenlock (after Much Wenlock which inspired de Coubertin to revive Games) and Mandeville (after Stoke Mandeville where the Paralympic movement began).

    Monsters, Inc.?

"a child-friendly creation formed from a drop of steel from the Olympic Stadium" ... erm, okay then, Mr. Coe.

oh my, these are terrible!! Why can't they do simple and cute? Mascottes need to be cute and fluffy and cuddly.
Like Berlino... or the 1980's Moscow mascot Chepuchka...

    ETA: cheburaschka, not chepuchka.

:duh: You've GOT to be kidding me.

Milly... don't forget the raccoon mascot from Lake Placid '80.

 You know it's bad when you're thinking, "hey, the anthropomorphic pigeons" thing wasn't a bad idea.

Weird as these eels look, I've got to :respec: that they are minus creepy/cutesy smiles, ala Izzy

They're almost like a totally uncute, abstract version of the Beijing mascots - but they certainly are voidy and that's something. I think they'll grown on me (hopefully not is some weird, futuristic devouring sort of way).

OMG they are worse than Izzy!

I like the logo design actually, but it would be better if it were more than one color.

All I can think of is 30 Rock and what Wesley said last week "I can't suffer through the London Olympics. We're not prepared, Liz! Did you see the Beijing opening ceremonies? We don't have control over our people like that."

I must be the only person who lurves these mascots. :shuffle: As soon as I saw them, I just wanted to hug them. C'mon, you have to admit they're damn voidy! Those mascots are really creative and definitely stray from the (safe) norm.

    I also like Lizzie. :shuffle:

    Oh dear.

Couldn't they just pull some of the "Spitting Image" puppets out of storage? ;)

Mini Ice just saw these on the screen and said "Monsters, Inc.!"

I think the Monsters, Inc. monsters were mostly cute excepting Randall but these are just creepy.

 Or Mike Wazowski in an auto detailing shop disaster.

This was my face when I first saw the pictures:

Just....no. Who is ON this design committee and how can we tar and feather them? This is an utter disgrace. I don't think the Brits all have THAT bad a taste! :scream:

I have yet to see anyone who likes those things. They're hideous and terrifying. I seriously think it was a conscious decision.

Over time I think my least favorite are:

    London 2010 things
    Athens weird stubby headed children
    Albertville star thing
    Izzy
    Torino Neve & Gliz

    Faves are:

    Vancouver esp Quatchi
    Moscow Misha
    Sarajevo Vucko
    Montreal Amik
    Nagano Snow Owls
    Salt Lake

Clearly I like animal mascots, not human, abstract, or object/amorphous blob mascots.

Hmmm...When I first saw them, I thought "wow, that takes ugly to a whole new level", but the more I look at them, the less they scare me. haha

    OMG, still bitter much?

Some of the comments are even more hilarious:

I went to DisneyWorld as a child and I met all the characters (aka people dressed up in suits). I had fun, but I did not cry nor think it was the best day of my life. What terribly mundane lives those children that Tammy knows must live. :p

In the little cartoon film about their creation, they can morph into athletes which is cute. The blow up doll version is much more :scream:

Like if the logo wasn´t enough

Every olympics I tend to enjoy the atmosphere, the venues and how they look on tv, but I just can´t think about what it will look on the screen with the crappy logo and those things hanging around

I know I love this one too from the same Telegraph link:

Haha, if they'd unveiled a unicorn, I'd loved to have seen all the unicorn special interest groups acting outraged and looking for free publicity.
