Wow, a schedule & results in English this year! http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2012-2013/fs_e/index.htm

Cross-posting this from the Japan skating news thread in GSD -- TV news report of Kanako Murakami's two programs at Chubu Regionals (Sept. 28-30, 2012, in Aichi):

Re-posting Kanako Murakami's SP and FS from Chubu Regionals (157.94 total):
Murakami's SP is to Michael W. Smith's "Prayer for Taylor" (thanks to burntBREAD for the music ID in GSD!).

ETA that the same user has uploaded the TV broadcast clip of 14-year-old Yura Matsuda, who won Chubu Junior Ladies with a total score of 158.80, 104.69 FS to Gershwin's "Crazy For You": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OV-d7swQH4 (she was 6th in her JGP debut in Courchevel)

    Here's Takahito Mura's SP (with a 4-4 practice attempt!): http://youtu.be/HWGfVxUhhLs

It's unfortunate he couldn't do his FS because of the typhoon. :(

Thanks for the link for to the vids!

I really like the direction that Murakami's skating is taking. Last year, I felt her programs, were a little heavy for her but this season, her programs look great. I still wish some of her jumps entries were fixed but she has improved in artistry a lot from just two seasons ago.

I can't believe she's still competing after last year's failure . but don't forget that there's a Japanese active tennis player, Kimiko Date-Krumm, who has just turned 42. maybe Fumie tries to beat the world record :p.

btw, does anyone know who her present coach is?

Is it that Fumie blew away the chance to move on, chances like Yukari was given and took, blinded by her passionate love for competitiveskating? It sure is puzzling to see her like this:(

I mean if she came out on a high, she'd end up getting slots on the bigger ice shows, I am sure. But now, the best she can hope for is to become a coach.

    According to this document :

    For Senior Ladies:
    - Top 10 from Eastern Sectionals qualify
    - Top 11 from Western Sectionals qualify (+3 seeded skaters: Asada, Suzuki, Murakami)
    - 6 more may be recommended/invited to senior nationals for a maximum of 30 competitors

    For Senior Men:
    - Top 9 from Eastern Sectionals qualify (+1 seeded skater: Hanyu)
    - Top 12 from Western Sectionals qualify (+2 seeded skaters: Takahashi, Kozuka)
    - 6 more maybe be recommended/invited to senior nationals for a maximum of 30 competitors

Of course there has been quite a bit of attention drawn to the fact that Fumie Suguri did not qualify again, but it would have been very strange if Shoko Ishikawa did not qualify. Fortunately, she pulled up to third in the free skate after being 16th in the short program. It's also a bit shocking that JGP competitor Miu Sato (and it looks as if this is the same person) did not even qualify for the free skate here...

not even a jgp competitor, she was 5th in nationals last year, 12th at jr. worlds.
but i cannot find ehr name on the results? it´s just mentioned a girl called nanoha sato.

i think miu may have a bye due to her results last year, or?
and if 6 more may be invited, is there any chance for fumie sill alive? :D

Results indicate a MIO Sato competed, but I'm thinking this is another skating and not the Miu Sato who competed on the JGP. She had two events, so she probably didn't have to compete at sectionals.

JGP competitor Miu Sato competed on the junior western sectionals and did not advance into the free skate. Therefore, it doesn't look like she will be advancing into nationals (junior or otherwise). The only seeded skater into junior nationals was Miyahara according to that document I posted earlier.

Junior Nationals will be held Nov. 16-18, 2012, in Tokyo.

Junior Nationals was held this weekend.
Results in English are up, including protocols! http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2012-2013/fs_e/national_jr/index.htm

    Men: http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2012-2013/fs_e/national_jr/data0190.htm
It looks like the following 5 skaters are advancing to senior nationals:
    1 - Ryuju HINO
    2 - Shoma UNO
    3 - Keiji TANAKA
    5 - Sei KAWAHARA
    6 - Taichi HONDA

Fourth place finisher Sota YAMAMOTO, this year's Novice A champion, was invited to junior nationals and is not eligible to advance to senior nationals. Here are videos of him with Oda in a tv special last year.

    Ladies: http://www.jsfresults.com/National/2012-2013/fs_e/national_jr/data0290.htm
Looks like the top 6 skaters are advancing to senior nationals:
    1 - Satoko MIYAHARA
    2 - Riona KATO
    3 - Rika HONGO
    4 - Yura MATSUDA
    5 - Rin NITAYA
    6 - Miyabi OHBA

Riona KATO was the Japanese skater who competed at Golden West!

Fun fact: All the junior skaters advancing to senior nationals are from the West! Very impressive, but not too surprising!

Pretty high score for Hino, wonder if his PCS have improved a lot? That's always been what held him back. :wall: for Tanaka, he is so talented, I'm waiting for the day he puts it all together. I think he could medal or even win the JGPF next month if he could skate 2 clean programs, at least give Kovtun and Farris a run for their money.
