This is one of the best documentary series I've seen in a long time - enjoy :)

It's quickly become one of my watch if I'm in front of the tv but no biggie if I miss it shows.

However, I'm keeping an eye out for changes after the first 6 eps or so. I get the feeling the network is behind this one and will want to make it work, so there could be some adjustments coming up based on early feedback.

The supporting characters and actors have been terrible from ep one for starters - the boyfriend seems to be gone and perhaps Max's city employer was a one shot, but they should still rethink the cook and Garret Morris.

We've talked about the canned sound of the laughter, so hopefully that will be fixed; the punctuations in the soundtrack are also rather heavy IMO.

What may only come with time is comic timing - the actress who plays Max is particularly in need of improvement IMO, and the chemistry between the two is not quite there yet.

I've really enjoyed all the other British-actor-turned-travel-host series I've seen (Michael Palin, Stephen Fry, Billy Connolly, Martin Clunes), but what really makes this one appealing for me is that Egypt is very high on my travel bucket list. So yes, definitely looking forward to it.

This is sort of comedy, and sort of reality ... I just happened to catch a trailer for Penn & Teller Tell a Lie, which premiers on Wednesday on Discovery. I'm glad I caught the trailer, coz it's not even listed in my TV guide. Anyway, here's the premise: In each episode, Penn & Teller make up to seven outrageous claims. While most of the wildly unbelievable stories are absolutely, positively true - one of them is a big fat lie. It will be up to viewers to spot the fake and vote live.

I find Penn & Teller very entertaining -- in small doses -- but the premise intrigues me so I'll check it out. 10:00 Eastern, 7:00 Pacific (no repeats currently scheduled).

Have to agree that 2 Broke Girls isn't living up to the pilot's promise. :( New Girl otoh was much improved last week - will have to see if that continues tonight.

I'm also ready to drop 2 Broke Girls from my viewing schedule.

It's so annoying the way they seem to be telegraphing the jokes and you can totally see the actors waiting for the laugh. It just doesn't flow well. It just takes you out of the scene. To be a little fair, I don't really notice it with the Caroline, but with Max's actress it's pretty blatant.

Ok, New Girl is getting dangerously close to being dropped from my lineup after this week's episode. Dull and stupid sitcom clichés thoughout. However there were a few good bits -- the "alternate usher" kid's battle with not-Daman Wayans was pretty funny, and they did kind of save it in the end. (The whole gang doing the chicken dance in slomo to "Groovy Kind of Love" was pretty funny too.)

I also watched Penn & Teller Tell a Lie ... and was not overly impressed. Too much schtick, and the "amazing and unbelievable" truths weren't exactly mindblowing.

Too bad ... but not too surprising.

Gee, I bet Hank Azaria is hoping the dispute with The Simpsons gets worked out soon!

While I've decided to abandon 2 Broke Girls, I am really enjoying New Girl. I think the cast are really gelling and there is a sweetness between them that I really like. I wouldn't use dull or stupid to describe this show at all! And I liked the parts you mentioned, and basically anything Zooey does. :respec: :D

Just one show debuting this week (no older shows starting their next season this week):

    Tuesday, October 11

    8:00 Last Man Standing (ABC)

  12. Beefcake

    Beefcake Guest

Lovely, it's Home Improvement, but with girls instead of boys. :scream:

Another men-are-stupid comedy - oh joy! Doesn't ABC know that "men are in trouble"? No, seriously, this show is at least a decade out of date.

Some of the stars with past hit shows, with new shows in developement:
Besides Tim Allen. There's Roseanne Barr, Sean Hayes, Kirstie Alley and Jim Belushi.

 Belushi. He'll be 90 by the time his next mundane, somehow-renewed-multiple-toimes sitcom goes off the air.

Maybe they'll really mix it up, get inventive, and call his next vehicle "According to Bill"?

One of my guilty pleasures is home voyeurism. Yes, yes, I'll admit it--in the dead of night, I watch *sob* real estate porn on that house harlot channel, HGTV. So you can imagine my devestation upon watching Selling LA, their counterpoint to my favorite porn show, Selling New York.

Selling LA makes me want to grab a French peasant mob and torch some really rich people. Viva la revolution! It also makes me want to ban all plastic surgery forever. Put down the Botox. It is not your friend. :yikes:

I guess my tastes are very different from everyone else's becaue I am very much still enjoying 2 Broke Girls and Person of Interest. Pan Am is also still on my list of "must haves" but I have honestly not kept up with any other of the new shows.

OMG, Alex's storyline was FANTASTIC. Yay, Happy Endings!!!

I can't believe the censors allowed the ""when my friend was tucking me in" joke.

I'll check out Allen Gregory, despite the fact that I've been completely unimpressed with every other recent Fox animated series.

Couple/3 sitcom commments, albeit not about new comedies ...

    1. As expected, Community was put on hiatus. Completely expected, as its ratings were miniscule even by cable standards. Fans are grasping at straws, but there is no way this show will be back for anything but "episode burn-off" ... Community doesn't even give NBC "awards/prestige" or publicity, ala big sister 30 Rock, so it'd be moronic to keep it. I'll miss the cast, except for :yikes: Chevy Chase. The season started terribly, but actually produced some terrific episodes before this news. Oh well.

    2. Oh, how grand! :cheer: Arrested Development is still going to be a movie, but now the return to television is definite. And definitely groundbreaking. NetFlix to produce AD / debut expected in 2012

I love this, er, development! Streaming/per view is the immediate future, and it's :kickass: that a once-a-generation show such as AD will be at this cutting edge. I'm also thinking that the measure for success for this pathfinder venture will be lower, so perhaps we can dream of more than the single season? :)

    3. It's been a while since I've watched a show with canned laughter, a long while. Recently I've DVRed Big Bang Theory, thinking that this series should be right up my viewing alley. NOPE! Well, the show is okay, though not Beefy DVR worthy. The far (far far far) larger problem is that I've not been able to endure an entire episode because the odious, dominating :yikes: laugh track makes me cringe and want to throw things. WTH? (ETA: BBT may be filmed in front of a studio audience, but post-production is obviously REALLY turning up the laughter decibels .. argh.) :scream:

To those who watch other laugh tracked shows: Is it this bad with those shows, as well?
